Hutchings to B Hill you would think? Or Walters. Who we going to put on Gaff? Brayshaw again?
Weird with Banfield out, would be handy to have him tag. Woefully out of form.
Conca will do the job now.
Mundy/Walters/Brayshaw/Cerra/Conca. Workmanlike midfield. Put North in there, and that’s our future- Cerra/North/Brayshaw.

Club seems to (Not really going on much just from training report thread themes) rate Valente a bit higher than North. Wouldn't be shocked if he comes in first and gets first crack.

Josh Kennedy pleading with fans not to boo. He knows deep down how trashy and feral the fans will and are.
So no don’t be surprised one bit if they boo. That’s the class and quality of west coast fans
As much as I like to throw shit at West Coast if you listen to the interview there was no pleading whatsoever, Basil was being the dramatic little cretin he is, and talked about if fans would boo Brayshaw, and Kennedy said something along the lines of "What's the point, guy didn't do anything wrong." I get it's derby week and there are a lot of West Coast fans that are scum, but if we're gonna throw shit at least let it be factually correct.

Colyer has played mainly forward for us. I’d suggest that’ll change this week. People seem to be forgetting him in midfield rotations.

I slammed his recruitment before he played a game for us but I actually think he’s been okay so far. Gives 110% which may not be enough in a quality finals bound side but when your options are a cooked Ballantyne, zero defensive pressure Matera and a bunch of blokes who’ve played less than five games (one or two of which will be good footballers but not yet) I can cope with that.

TBH I'm not as worried about the execution as I am about the intent - young players working out a new game plan will make errors. It's not all going to gel in a week, and West Coast will certainly apply a lot of pressure, so we WILL make mistakes. What we need to see is gradual improvement in connection and a manic attack on the ball and man. The rest will come in time.

In fact samedi soir, we hope

F***ing cringe that Hughes somehow still gets a game.
F### cringe there's no quality control on posts here. Back in reality. Hughes dominated Wood in Round 1. Did better than anyone else who played on Sexton in the second game. (Only one of Sexton's goals was kicked when Hughes was on him) and was decent last week. Watching football with your eyes open might help you enjoy the game more.

He’s been a solid calm ball user. Surprising. Kicked two in Gold Coast. He’s underrated. Back him to play well on Saturday night.

Haha triggered much? Anyone with eyes can see Hughes is spud. Turns the ball over every time he touches it and makes horrible decisions. Was poor on Sexton, you give him credit for beating Wood when the ball rarely went near Wood. Hilarious how people defend him yet bash Tabs, I'll put good money on Hughes being delisted in a year or two.

Unfortunately for Hughes and more importantly for freo for everything he does well he more than cancels it out with some diabolical decision making and turnovers.
Sure all of our players are guilty of this at stages it’s just Hughes almost always directly cost goals.

Virtually every single game

Yes his defensive efforts and willingness to back himself are admirable but he’s the type of player we just can’t afford to carry in big pressure games if we are to progress.

Either he improves this aspect of his game(still relatively new to afl so maybe) or as I suspect will be phased out by Duman and end up depth only at best.

Ill double down on this bet. I had hope for him early on, but freo have made him to mechanical - you can just see his brain turning over so slowly when he’s got the ball, just not intuitive or has intuition to know what to do next

Seeing that he is playing this week, I’d move him to Allen.

Logue will eventually take this spot

Good on'ya Sherrif. I agree 100%. He plays above his size, and his commitment at the footy has been awesome, taking some really impressive marks. He probably does go for a few passes that are beyond him at times, however as a half back, they have to do this, and we want them to take the game on take some risks. In the last 2 weeks he has had the total of 5 clangers. I believe 2 clangers a match is acceptable for a half back flanker, especially with the forward pressure applied in AFL footy in recent years. Last week against the Saints he did not give away one free kick (actually got 2 for). I thought it was a solid game.

If we were going to crucify players for clanger counts then 3/4 of our team would be out, including our skipper.

I am not saying Hughes is amazing, or a lock in the team, but I believe he is nowhere near as bad as what some make out. I have thought his games this year have been good, and I would be dropping 3-5 players in the team before him.

Why all this negative attack against Hughes? He’s been pushing up the ground, obviously has the message of taking the game on. Overthinks at times, he ll get better. But he’s a great mark for his size, is fast and know he ll give an honest go at it.
Wilson is the one that needs to be pushed or go back to Peel. Well below his best, turns the ball over- not really taking advantage of the kick in rule that is a key to maximize his strengths. One on one, Wilson has been struggling. At least with Hughes and Duman they attack the footy and are solid defensively.

Well at least the question of "Who will be our escaped goat once D Pearce retires?" has been answered.

Nah. I agree with Mike and fnerd

Be unusual, like both. I have done it. It’s good
Righto then. Always been a big fan of Tabs, always been quick to defend him too. Hughes has only real impressed me this season but if he can keep it up then I don't see why he can't stay in the Best 22.
