Sidepoint: The Saints board keep bringing up Tucker in their trade thread along with the pictures of him as a kid dressed all in Saints gear. **** off!
Pfft, one of them reckons Balic for a 3rd rounder

Based on his game for Peel on the weekend, play him off a half back flank. He's the Ibbo replacement IMO.

Could be the Duff/Rog we've been screaming out for.
Haven't really seen that much from him in terms of intercept marking though.

Maybe???

xxxxx - A Pearce - Hamling
Weller - Logue - Tucker

Just need a replacement for Spurr (Nyhuis/Ryan). Then we have Sherro aswell, hbf.... winger?????

I have said before that I think Tucker will eventually end up in the midfield. Good size, tough, quick hands, agile, neat skills. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Definitely think Tucker has a higher ceiling but they aren't like for like. Tucker wouldn't have been played on Stringer

Agree with this.
I'm still not sure exactly where Tucker fits in to the defensive unit - or even if he does at all. I think his work in the D50 is an apprenticeship of sorts, with more time through the middle as his career progresses.
I'm interested to see where Hughes ends up as a footballer but for some reason I have very little expectation of him - to me he's a 'free hit'. I hope for his own sake he makes it work

I prefer Weller further up the field. Next season I'd like to see something like:

Cox - Pearce - Hamling
Ryan - Logue - Tucker

Maybe we are lucky to get a JJ or Adams this trade period.

Cox?? That's a strange one.

You don't think 3 KPD + Logue is too much? Look how much better we looked going smaller this week.

It's hard. We don't look to have any replacements for Spurr. At one point in time I thought it was Sutcliffe but his development has stagnated. I think I read Hamling can play small or tall. I'd love to get a Nick Smith.

I. With how the modern game move . weller , tucker ,b.hill, s.hill, croz,Langdon got the ability to interchange position rather than playing a fix position. I always prefer my best 22 had the ability to play multiple position.

I wouldn't back any of them to compete/beat the small forwards such as Betts or Wingard. Nick Smith, Dane Rampe are both great defensively and offensively. I don't think any of the players you mentioned would go too well from a defensive perspective.

Betts and wingard you need to tag them , grey will be the person . you don't always get superstar in every position give and take no dream team here . is a team game everybody need to cover each other. Wingard and betts will be less effective if you limited their mid kicking inside 50 , everything start with the mid . bare in mind that opposition also worry about freo forward line how their defense stack up . against fyfe , mundy even Neale when freo inside mid moving forward .

Definitely think Tucker has a higher ceiling but they aren't like for like. Tucker wouldn't have been played on Stringer on the weekend just gone for instance. I do think Logue, Hughes, MJ and Ibbo is probably one (maybe even two) too many of those versatile defenders, although they managed ok as a group on the weekend so who knows what they'll do?
Who cares if they are like for like, although they are not massively dissimilar. We need defenders who can create transition. Speed, skills and decision making from the backline. Logue, Ibbotson or Hammil can go to Stringer.

There is also an almost 3 hour delay on this game in to WA on Ch 7

Just my luck - this would have been the first (and one of the only) Freo games of the season I could have watched live.

Back the youngsters in and let them go out again. The seniors after that horrible Round 1 performance were backed into Port Adelaide game. Surely Balic, Logue, Weller, Crozier etc get that chance too .
Max Gawn out for them is a huge win for us, get to play Sandi as lone ruckman again with MJ perhaps as pinch hitter. Hamling goes to Hogan. With Jordan Lewis out as well, no time as now to knock off a team at MCG- would be huge for those that haven't been there or won there before.

Hogans not playing either...

Hogan still has another weeks suspension to serve....Hamling will probably go to Watts.

You've hit the nail on the head - so many senior players were given the benefit of the doubt in the first week (and indeed for many months); why should Hughes and Balic be dropped when Suban and D. Pearce were given form-free passes for the better half of a century (until last week).

Hopefully from now on we'll have integrity in selection.

Lyon said Michael Walters would be fit to play despite the gun forward doing little at this morning’s open training session at the club’s Cockburn headquarters.

“We’re very confident he’ll play,” Lyon said.

“He’s an incredibly hard worker, hardly ever misses training.

“He was just a little tight and sore still, so we availed ourselves of the opportunity that existed, which was to manage him.

Great news on the no changes. I would hope all the kids get at least 3-4 games in a row.

Let's give them a chance to settle in and respond to what they would have learnt from their post-match reviews.

Hopefully Tucker keeps dominating at Peel. He'll be back in the team in no time.

We have a decent run of games up to the bye to test the kids:

Melbourne, North Melbourne, Wet Toast, Essendon, Richmond, Carlton, Adelaide, Collingwood, Brisbane.
