Dawson was finished after Lynch toweled him up in r2 last year. Why Ross played him for another season I don't know.
How he managed to be given the nod over Collins to begin the season I will never know. It's blatantly obvious that Dawson isn't up to the modern game of footy, he's the most one dimensional player I've ever seen. Not an attacking bone in his body.

Only an absolute numbskull would try and defend Dawson, How is he not a liability? He can't kick or mark....
See?...at least you've said something about Dawson and what he can or cannot do. At least in the Peel game this week he took some marks, which was quite a difference for him.

How about I tell you that your opinion is worthless? Enjoy watching your love child play for Peel this year :thumbsu:
Opinions are worthless if that is all they are. "I think Fyfe is the best player ever". "I don't" "Well I do" "but I don't". Where's the conversation in that? i explained that at the time.

I think Dawson is too defensive. And he is too one dimensional. I think that has got worse over the last couple of years, too. But he has a couple of strengths over Collins (and previously over Silvagni). He is taller than both and he has a faster closing speed on leading forwards.
Collins deserves a go, but he has weaknesses too.

Fwiw i reckon Dawson does as he's told. Defend 1 on 1, punch, peel off and assist your teammates. And he's good at it. He's tall and he's relatively quick.

Fair enough the game has changed now and the entire 22 need to have exceptional kicking skills.

But dancing on the grave of a Freo player does not sit well with me.

He's played over 160 AFL games whereas Collins has only a handful. On those selective stats alone, Zac is ten times then player Sam is... [emoji6]

I know for a fact that there are close friends and families of some of our players who read these forums to keep up with what is happening with their friends / sons / brothers.

I am ashamed at times to read some of the absolutely unwarranted bile directed at some of OUR players by supposed supporters. These guys go out every week and put their bodies on the line for our entertainment, and we sit in our armchairs and poke crap at them.

We should bring in a rule that you only post what you would be prepared to say directly to the player in a boxing ring. I'm sure Zac would be happy to get down to the local gym to meet a few of our keyboard warriors. ;)

Id much rather Dawson in ahead of Collins against forwards such as Kennedy.. Zac will at least make it a fight, whereas Collins' speed and height will get seriously found out, as it did time after time against him. Sure Collins is a battler, but those types struggle when matched on the forwards of today. Silvagni is the same.

I thought both play with peel ? Don't know what the comparison for who is better . No different indirectly saying Collins should not be on the list and bad recruitment.

lol people defending Dawson after our performance on weekend. I didn't see any defender kick to a blank space of turf with a imaginary freo teammate in it on the weekend.Look Dawson can spoil the footy and that's about it. We want defenders that can mark ,kick the footy and not handball 24/7. There is nothing Dawson offers to a style of play that we need to play to win a game these days. It's not all about height. The backs in sides don't necessarily always have to be over 195cm to do the job on a tall forward.

Just out of interest, who was defending Dawson? Quotes please.

Read what you've quoted again . Stop being a cop when people have a different opinion than you. You are no different than any of us that have different opinion.

If playing WAFL can improve crozier,Langdon , grey why not keep tucker, collins and tab until they tick all the box , no need be such a hurry. Bringing Tab in as emergecy is more of a strategy to play extra tall or without it as I can't see D.pearce not playing for a second week in the running either in afl or WAFL. People here are so critical about their opinion right than look at the overall picture. if injuries strike suban is all the only one that available you play him.

Tabs has taken 31 marks and kicked 11 goals in the first 4 games. It's hard for him to be going much better than he is. He's got to come in at some point.

I've read all the negative comments about Zac Dawson.
Summing it:
1) Collins is a better player than Dawson
2) Collins is a younger player with more upside
3) Dawson skills are not up to the modern game
4) Ball movement was better without Dawson
5) Dawson shouldn't be selected again

They are people's views and you suggesting violence against people.

If you say that Dawson should play, then what about the family and members of the player who was dropped or didn't make the team?

I think the point really is that the modern game demands that the back line players be a part of ball distribution. You can't really afford to have a player like Dawson in the backline because it leaves you a man short when you have control of the ball. He may well still be the best 1 on 1 defender on our list, but the modern game dictates that disposal is more important than defensive ability, and if that means conceding a couple more goals each game in exchange for being able to move the ball out of your backline quicker, then that's a compromise you have to accept.

This again comes down to the game plan philosophy. Dawson would have got the nod under the old defensive gameplan, but not in the new one.

What?

This was not particularly in relation to Dawson, although I have seen him called a spud (and worse). It was a general comment about the way we tend to slag off players we don't like (think Danyle Pearce, Nick Suban) rather than a specific reference.

Suggesting a player be dropped is far different to suggesting they are spuds who should never play again.

I have. I was answering a comparison between Dawson and Collins. I wasn't defending Dawson. Quite the opposite.

I'm not being a cop when people having a different opinion. That's ridiculous.

And it's not my fault if you have difficulty reading.

Commenting about someone's footballing ability is fine. Character assassination is weak.

I would prefer for my key defender to actually be able to have the ball in his hand without knowing there is a 50% chance of it being a turnover. Collins looks like a much more composed player to Dawson and I can actually trust him when he has the ball. We have struggled with turnovers coming out of the backline this year and having an absolute turnover merchant in Dawson back there would not help us anymore. Dawson is a better defender then Collins but I would take the better marking better kicking defender over Dawson. Like I've said 15 times, this is my opinion and I really don't care if you disagree with it. I'm not going to change this opinion until Dawson gives me a reason to.

I actually agree with almost all you've said here. First four sentences anyway. Thanks for backing your opinion up.

I think it's ok for people to put their frustrations down in a forum. Even if it's negative. It's not that easy to cotton wool comments if your that frustrated with a player or something that your seeing out on the field. It shows your a passionate fan and you want to see your team doing well. I think fans will be happy with the weekends performance and where the team is heading with all the younger guys and you won't see that many frustrating comments going forward this year. So long as we keep giving the young guys more of a opportunity as they are the future of the team going forward and limit the older players that won't be around in 2-3 years we all want that flag and it's about time we move forward as a team and give every young guy a shot
