Bring back the Tab men.

Hughes coughed it up too much for me. Logue had a brain fart, but was strong in the air and reasonably neat with his disposal. Logue appeared to enjoy the increased pressure. Hughes seems to regress with the pressure. I'd prefer Tucker or Sutcliffe. I understand we need to build his confidence, and a game in isolation won't help, but he was pretty bad (Hughes).

Nah we're also bringing back in Pearce because it was clear on the weekend Cam doesn't like the ball being kicked directly to him inside 50. Likes to pluck the difficult marks.
Similar to Pav in that he loves it placed over his head when he's on the lead and when triple teamed likes it coming back to Earth like an air balloon.

I saw maybe one error from Hughes? Maybe I wasn't paying close enough attention

Hughes didn't lower his eyes enough to find a target but that is a simple fix. He will learn pretty quickly from those sort of mistakes

Yep, I imagine those sort of errors are easily pointed out during match review. Would be silly to drop him without giving him the chance to address the issue.

seriously thinking about it... But likely he will come back vs North next week
Some of the thing I would like to see Tab improve if he play WAfl this week.
1) Hold on to the ball mark early in the game.
2) Make good decision if he is outside 50 . don't hold on to the ball too long .
3) Spend a bit more time in the Ruck .
4) More team oriented than individual performance .

North is exactly the game I would put Tab on as they normally play three tall forward line.

He made heaps of bad choices/ not being strong enough in the contests, especially when he was in prime position to half or win a marking contest / rushed disposals where poise was needed. He also dropped a simple mark and fumbled.

I'm all for building confidence but he was completely overawed by the situation. A shame because he looked great in that game against Port when we rested all of our senior players.

A lot of our other younger players seem to enjoy the contest like Langdon, Grey, Blakely and Logue in particular which is a good sign for the future though.

If North play a 3 tall fwd line wouldn't it make more sense to bring in Collins???

Johnson , logue , hamling is good enough to handle them. Two with speed and intercepted mark quality.

Fair call meima. I only asked as you mentioned Tabs coming in when referencing North playing 3 talls in their fwd line. Thought you were suggesting bringing him in as a backman which wouldn't have made sense to me :)

I've watched the game in full again. Having read the WAFL report, Tucker played HBF and wing, Sutcliffe had 10 rebound 50s. I'd bring one of them in for Hughes.

Not wanting to sound contrary rgauci, but I think if we are going to play kids it really needs to be in blocks of 3 - 4 games to give them a chance to overcome nerves and settle in to the team a bit. If they are still under performing then by all means send them back to the magoos to get their confidence / form back.

That's fine, but in Tucker's case you're talking about a kid that only had two games before getting the chop, and the team structures and support around him in those games were woeful. I'm hoping he was directed to get his defensive pressure up - whether that was the case or not, he made 8 tackles against Subi.

I'd be dropping Johnson for Collins.

Offers as much in the air and have a feeling he'll be a beast as back up ruck.

Maybe its time we manage Johnson Sandi for this one, bring in Darcy Collins . Tucker will get a gig if balic slips. I seen why they say balic can play forward he set up a couple of goals in the 4th

I'm glad we're finally talking about the game this weekend - I think we've all tried to stop time and soak in the good feelings this week which is fair enough.

What are our real chances in this game? Where are Melbourne at and where are we? Melbourne started with comfortable wins over mediocre sides but looked solid against the Cats even though they fell short in the end.

Who are we? Are we stuck somewhere between the rabble that played Port and the highly charged, frenetic side we were against the Doggies?

It's hard to think we'll have the same license in jumping the enemy this week, Roos is too good a coach and will be prepared for that. So therein already lies the next great challenge for our young guys - to play on blokes who expect quality football from you.

I for one will be happy if we retain similar levels of skills and execution, and following our gut instincts by leading with the ball at all times - even if we fall short.
