I'm not into smashing our team in losses so I won't, I'll just say that Marty Gleeson is a jet

Disappointing third quarter but not too fussed. Hard to win with alot of good core players missing. Should give our next four games a fair shake.

McPharlin and Johnson 58 disposals and 22 marks between them. Let them do what they wanted off half back. Kept bombing it long to a loose man and a short forward line and where the forward pressure was, I don't know. Really need to sort out the long bombing though. Once we did that against Hawthorn we were back in the game. Must be just a mental thing when we are under pressure because we have shown we can pin point passes to leads.

all you can do is put it down to a dirty 2nd half, and learn from it.

When you 'only' give up 23 scoring shots, you dont expect to be looking at a 10 goal loss often. We couldnt shut them down when they ran hot - 2 extra days break, 32 degrees, no rucks, problem a kids or two too many - just have to get better when it goes against us as it did.

Sandilands against a team without a ruckman, just the worst, almost made him SC captain.
Goddard, Chapman, Ryder and Fletcher are A Graders missing from the side, that's a big whack of onfield leadership out of the side. Myers is also a leader.
35 Degree heat, we've not been training in that, they have all summer.
17/15 of their past games at Patterson's they've won, we were their 2 losses.
They're coming off a pounding against the Hawks (Who we should have beaten).
We may be complacent from smashing the Blues.
We brought in Colyer, Van Unen and Jetta, fumbling is contagious, ask Richmond.
Zaharakis and Melksham (our barometers) are out of form.
Umpires have been stirring the whole match with their snapped off paddlepop sticks for penises.

Just off the top of my head.

Hmm indeed. Freo in the West is tough, but they just pantsed us. they covered our run easily and just monstered us from the middle and half-back. I'm not actually sure we had a forward line.

Going into this game without a ruckman is a joke and the selection committee should be called out on it. It's possible to get away with it as one off against a team like the Blues, but not against the better team. In the same vein, naming Fletch and Chappy and then not even flying them over was just stupid.

Gleeson was great, Heppell and Stants were good, but other than that there wasn't much to smile about. Need to recover well and come out snarling against the Saints who looked bog ordinary today

As I said in the GD thread, every team (including the premiers) get belted once or more during the year.

The Dockers were smacked last week by a similar margin, and we all know how good they can play (as shown today).

Hopefully today is the kick up the arse the boys needed. Lackluster, no energy, and no desire to chase their man.

Absolutely no need for panic stations

Fletcher (best loose man in the comp)
Chapman (leading goal kicker)
Myers (midfield rotation)
Goddard (key forward/midfielder)

Ryder (would have at least quelled Sandilands)
TBC (would have beaten Clarke)

Would have thought our key outs outweigh there key midfielders.

Wasn't there midfielders that won them the game, Sandilands and the drive they generated from defence was what got them the attacking power.

"Forget it Jake, it's... Perth."

Hindsight heroism, but thinking that you can waltz into a game against Sandilands and Clarke without a recognised ruckman is indeed suicide. I don't care if Thurlow's not up to it (didn't stop 'em picking Van Unen), if you can get a big dumb lump of flesh and throw him in against Sandilands at least you'll have a legitimate target up forward.

This is a bad performance... the loss in and of itself not so much, but the manner of it. Maybe get a few more emergencies on the plane and a bit less ducks-and-drakes and we could've had someone in for BJ if he pulled up sore during the warm-up. I thought what we did in the first half was perfect considering the circumstances - if we can't score, just stem the tide and make it a slog. Clearly couldn't run it out though.

It is somewhat refreshing to get the stark reminder that we are some distance off being a good side earlier in the season rather than late.

Also mentioned in the game day thread that there is no shame losing to a grand finalist team from last year, even by the margin that was. We need to re group and come out firing against a rejuvenated but similarly seething Saints outfit keen on putting themselves inside the 8.

Just from the other thread, my bad I thought the bulldogs was Geelong on the little tv graphic of our next 4 matches, woops
