Gonna be one of those that say it was neither a mark, nor a free kick. Watched it live and was uncertain, and surely benefit of the doubt should go to the defending team in these kind of scenarios.

A touch unlucky not being paid a mark, but plenty of those during games are also not paid.

Similarly, a touch unlucky not being a free kick for holding, but again plenty of those during games are also not paid.

A half mark and a half free kick does not equal an Adelaide possession via a mark or free kick, that's not how it works.

You can have an opinion all you like but you can't tell people 'thats not how it works' when you sre suggesting there is such a thing as half a mark or free kick.

Also your interpretation sucks. If you want to know how things don't work look up whether you can tackle someone in a marking contest.

I don't want to suggest corruption, so the other explanation is that the umpires don't know the rules.

Edit: just watched a "bigger" replay multiple times. Definitely not a mark but I do think a free kick. However, it's not like it was a gimme 20m out directly in front with mere seconds left. Yes, Adelaide would have liked the chance but there was still plenty of time for a different result.

Clear free he was tackled in the marking contest. Whether he held it long enough is debatable but the free is 100% there.

Crap umpiring but that is now the norm. Having 4 has made it worse, not better.

Clearly a free but I don't believe the "AFL needs GC to make finals" conspiracy stuff. A game of AFL is too random and chaotic

The answer is more simple, the umpire was too scared to pay a free inside forward 50 in the last minute of a 1 point game, just like hundreds of umpires before him in the same situation

You will be in the minority, because it was a free kick, no ifs, no buts, because IF he didn't mark it, then it was 100% holding the man.

Umpires shat the bed not paying that.
4 UMPS all with plums the size of tic tacs, probably a 50/50 genuine mark, but a 100% a definite free. right in front of me.........right in front.

If we want to dissect every umpiring decision can we mention the crow throw missed in the suns goal square or do only the ones in the last 2 minutes count?

Yep that was missed - the ump was blindsided though. How do you explain this free though? Or the sling tackle free when the ump was right there? The play on free kick? Jed playing on from the goal square but getting another shot? The dodgy 50's resulting directly in goals?

The play on free kick was a blatant error no doubt.
Problem with some of the frees they are all based on interpretation. The Walter sling.. soft but can see it.
Fog also played on after marking entering the square before putting his hand up to say no I didn’t.

The 50s dodgy? Guess I didn’t see them that way

Umpiring at Gold Coast stadium is a shitshow, lol. Last year we had the worst umpiring I've ever seen against them in the first half, where it was like 17-3 free kicks in the first half, or something.

Any objective viewer would say Suns got rub of green. Why? Home ground advantage. Poor quality of umpires.

As a Suns fan every time we travel to Melbourne we are automatically down by 2-3 goals (unless we dominate like against Demons). That's the reality of AFL. I guess, professional umpires would help.

I do feel for Crows fans. It was a cracker game. Both teams look a real deal.

Scheduling the game at midday was criminal from AFL. Let's see the impact on teams next week, especially Crows on 5 days break.

Something tells me Crows will get some calls in Adelaide. Don't despair :)

It was a free kick.

Think of all those silly frees paid for wrap around arms that have no force whatsoever.

Now apply that here, as it came with much more force.
