They paid another 2 or 3 frees to the Suns after that so they weren't whistle shy at allIt was a mark. Then it was a free kick, under several different rules.
Yet another case of umpires terrified of blowing their whistle in a close game.
Gonna be one of those that say it was neither a mark, nor a free kick. Watched it live and was uncertain, and surely benefit of the doubt should go to the defending team in these kind of scenarios.
A touch unlucky not being paid a mark, but plenty of those during games are also not paid.
Similarly, a touch unlucky not being a free kick for holding, but again plenty of those during games are also not paid.
A half mark and a half free kick does not equal an Adelaide possession via a mark or free kick, that's not how it works.

That's because we'd know it was corruption rather than it just being a possibilty. If the Pies had been the beneficiary of that non decision by the umpire, this thread would be 22 pages by now, rather than 2.
4 UMPS all with plums the size of tic tacs, probably a 50/50 genuine mark, but a 100% a definite free. right in front of me.........right in front. You will be in the minority, because it was a free kick, no ifs, no buts, because IF he didn't mark it, then it was 100% holding the man.
Umpires shat the bed not paying that.

If we want to dissect every umpiring decision can we mention the crow throw missed in the suns goal square or do only the ones in the last 2 minutes count?
The play on free kick was a blatant error no doubt.Yep that was missed - the ump was blindsided though. How do you explain this free though? Or the sling tackle free when the ump was right there? The play on free kick? Jed playing on from the goal square but getting another shot? The dodgy 50's resulting directly in goals?
Any objective viewer would say Suns got rub of green. Why? Home ground advantage. Poor quality of umpires.Yep that was missed - the ump was blindsided though. How do you explain this free though? Or the sling tackle free when the ump was right there? The play on free kick? Jed playing on from the goal square but getting another shot? The dodgy 50's resulting directly in goals?
5 apologies in 2 years. Surely there needs to be a conversation around Adelaide being unfairly umpired. But the AFL said on Sunday morning that Rankine should have been paid a mark, or awarded a free kick for being held.
Ouch
