I dont see the point in bringing a youngster lets say grigg in this week only to drop him next week and maybe bring him into the squad the following week. why not give him a run of 3-4 games?

Can you explain what Geelong did? Which current players were ins and outs?? I was still very new to football in 02, 03

No I can't but I'll bet someone with better footy smarts and a better memory than me (a Cat's supporter maybe?) could.

In an ideal world....you're right HBF, a small defender has to a) beat their man, b) provide rebound off HB.....I'm not arguing against your point, just looking for some logic in it all.

No point looking for logic mate, there isn't any. How the f*ck can you name Simpson in the BP?
I know that players don't lineup where they are named, but FFS, let the kid play on the wing. I'd be much happier having Carrazzo in the BP.

Err ... we play Houlihan in the backline to use his disposal coming out of it don't we? Even though the last six or seven seasons have proved conclusively that he has no defensive side to his game whatsoever. That's how important good use of the ball out of the backline is these days.

But Houlihan is probably getting dropped this week until he hardens the ____ up and learns how to do a few team things like lay a tackle.

So Simpson goes to the BP to use his good disposal coming out of it, and Grigg gets to run around on the wing with less pressure which should allow him to find the pace of the game, gain some confidence and hopefully his (generally) good disposal and run should be damaging going forward.

What's not to get?

You must be kidding?
That easy huh? Can't beleive we don't try these tactics every week, we'd be top of the ladder.

Play it hard,
If he gets caught in the traffic,
of an aggressive and congestive game,
then so be it.

it is a very simple game.

This is Carlton v Collingwood,
the other coach puts Holland,
and his other dogs up front,
to intimidate,
so we do it first.

Men play this.

I don't think we'll be wasting a bloke like Simpson on Medhurst, my point is though if people just think he's had the one good game, you need to re-visit some of his games over the last year. He's been very good. Sure he's a knob, but he can kick goals. I'd love to see him smashed, just like every other magpie scum out there.

This is the named bench
Adam Bentick, Paul Bower, Steven Browne, Ryan Houlihan, Setanta O’hAilpin, Darren Pfeiffer, Jordan Russell

Bentick, Browne, Grigg, O’hAilpin
Out: Shaun Hampson (omitted)

1. Adam bentick - Midfield not our weakness, I get the feeling he is out of favour with the coaches for some reason, most likely guess is his lack of pace.

2. Paul Bower - Didn't do much wrong at all this year, lets hope he holds his spot although I think he can play better, may be due for a wake-up call...

3. Steven Browne - Player of the future, exactly what the team needs, physically maby a bit raw, I really hope they play him, on form and background a good chance to play.

4. Ryan Houlihan - blinded the supporters with some flashy stuff and good disposals, he is as good at kicking as he is as bad as running, pressure, 1%er's and tackling, probably get selected, lets hope not, costs the team too much.

5. Setanta O’hAilpin - will replace Hampson, gives the blues more around the ground, hampson probably needs to find some footy in the VFL.

6. Darren Pfeiffer - Been honest, maby going back to the VFL to find a little more form and to earn his place.

7. Jordan Russell - I think he was dropped to the VFL by half time.

I think the Bench will be:
Paul Bower, Steven Browne, Setanta O’hAilpin, Darren Pfeiffer

although Bower may miss out for Pfeiffer as I think we have enough tall defenders, Bentick is also a chance to play instead of Bower/Pfeiffer.

Would have liked to see Anderson in but i think the team selectors are a bit conservative and have no idea how to "clean out" a side/dud players.

I am a bit disappointed that Hampson got dropped, maybe they want more run, especially on the MCG so I guess it makes sense. In saying that I believe Setanta will come in to play on either Rocca or Fraser when he goes forward. I thought he did a good job on Gehrig, maybe they just want him for the, 'gorrilas', Lloyd is more of a lead up, which Jamison is comfortable with as he has got good closing speed. On the gorrilas Jamison might stuggle one on one, so i expect him to probably either start on the bench as a back up to Setana or the other way round. I hope they play Thornton on Medhurst as he seems to enjoy that role on a smaller player, with Bannister taking Thomas and Waite on Cloke. Didak is the worry for me, not sure who we have for him. Someone suggested that Jamison played on Medhurst, this would allow Thornton to play on Didak, however I am not sure if he has the smarts. I would take a bit of a risk with Bower, I think he is starting to show something and would like him to be given the challenge.

CARN THE BLUE!!:thumbsu:

I agree that at the very least Carlos is Rocca insurance - let's say he starts on him, Jammo being for the lead up man could take Medhurst but if we were thinking of going for a win (and pulling a surprise), Jammo could take Cloke and free up Waite to play half forward (CHF?). I know everyone is advocating that we should settle him at CHB (pretty much think so myself) but nothing is written in stone.

I would include Ohailpin just for the flexibility he provides...can help in the ruck, can man up both talls and smalls in the back half and can even be pushed to FF if a matchup presents itself.

I can fully understand Hartlett having to spend a week or 2 in the ressies to earn a spot again, that is fair to the rest of the squad since he was really pretty stupid. But I would like to see him back in the team sooner rather than later - do you think he'll struggle to force his way back in? Personally I think we could really use a bit of grunt in the forward line and Hartlett doesn't shy away from a contest.

The fact that he's struggling for a game now in a side like Carlton's, after being in the system 3-4 years means he's up against it to forge a decent career. Not up to it.

Sorry to ask the inevitable DT question, but how many games do we think Pfeiffer will play this year? The whole Bowden omission is giving my side the pinch, and I'd rather not go a week with a zero... Pfeiffer in for Scott D Thompson?

Can somebody explain to me why Kade Simpson has been named in the BP. He's been our best mid over the past couple of years, and we reward him by putting him in the BP - WTF!?

Kade won't start there, they are probably still deciding who Jammo will play on and if they put him on Rocca/Cloke then Browne will play BP on Medhurst/Davis/Didak. They will still be devising match-ups first.

Changes from TC:
In: O'hAilpin
Out: Houlihan ( Hip )
Sorry to dissapoint but Russell survives another week:eek:
INTER: Bower Pfeiffer O'hAilpin Russell
EMERG: Hampson Bentick Browne

As mentioned last week Houlihan has been struggling for a few weeks now with his hip.

O'hAilpin will definately be played on Rocca with Jamison to go to Cloke and Waite @ CHF i would think if not for the start of the game, definately at some stage.

Grigg is in for obvious reason and should never have been dropped in the first place.

The only reason why i think that Russell survived is becasue we are looking for a running side and that collingwood anrnt overly tall. That's the only logical explination that i can think of ATM. I am willing to give him another chance only because i love the this club and when they run out onto the field they are representing OUR CLUB.

Stupidly enough i actually think he will go to Thomas, similar height and pace and has done a tagging job on players like Power in the past so that could be another reason. We usually have Houlihan go to Didak and Walker to Thomas or the reverse and both those player arnt playing this week so the need for medium players/defenders is very important.

I think Bannister to Didak, Russell to Thomas. This is where the game will be one and lost. I dont mind Thomas but gee if i had a shot gun Didak would be in the firing line, and thats because he can cause damage to us and in quick time.

Happy to see both Grigg and O'Hailpin back into the team.
Still NOT happy to see Simmo named in the BP.
Someone has to be named there and the usual suspect is unavailable. Of course named and line up- I wouldn't want to repeat myself for the 500th time would I. ;)
