Round 4 Tips & Crowd Expectations

Richmond have more members on the mainland than Hawthorn and far more supporters in general

Far more...um okay? This is the real world, not some yellow and black 'tiggars' delusions of grandeur. Hawthorn have more members, more premiership success, outdrew Richmond last year (despite playing 4 games at a post stamp sized ground and 9/11 'homers' against the lowest drawing clubs in the competition) and generate far more revenue than Richmond.

Roy Morgon, Dreamteam, Supercoach...anything?

'If it acts like a duck, tastes like a duck and sings like a duck, chances are its probably a bigger duck'

My tips

Do they?

Roy Morgon, Dreamteam, Supercoach...anything?

Hawthorn have 4,000 more members than Richmond, outdrew them to home and away games last season (amazing considering they play 4 games at a post stamp stadium!) and have a clear advantage in all the national supporter surveys.

Quote or it doesn't exist...

Richmond have a lot of older supporters who wouldn't do facebook and we still have a fair bit more likes on there than hfc

The supercoach, dream team etc are irrelevant

A successful hawthorn outdrawing RFC whilst outside the 8 is nothing to brag about

Do they? Prove it or it doesn't exist. You made the catagorical statement now back it up with facts!

Remember you said they have 'far more supporters' and 'more members on the mainland' unless you can back that up with creditable figures you just look like a fool.

This isn't some yellow and black delinquent/KB's alzheimer's fantasy, we're interested in cold hard facts!

How many tassie members is there? Remove from your current tally

105k Facebook likes vs 90k

Nice! After just stating that social media doesn't matter.

I guess there is probably a reason why Facebook 'likes' don't translate to Supercoach/Dreamteam support, I mean its not like you 'like' more than one AFL team is it  What next 'twitter'

Gosh with all this surging support (clearly more than Hawthorn - I mean 105k to 90k is 'clearly more' right?) one wonders why Richmond are a good $10-15m short of Hawthorn in overall revenue.

Better stock up on all those 'tiger insider' memberships, the sleeping giant is surging

I mean, if Hawthorn and Collingwood can only draw 76,000, 84,000, 79,000, 84,000 and 72,000 across their last 5 home and away matches the Tigers must be good for at least 105,000

About 7,000?

How many Tasmanian members do the 'tigs' have...how many SA members, how many WA members, NSW...you get the point.

You made the categorical statements back it up or you're just kidding yourself!

Although most older people don't use it, I'd say facebook is a much better way of measuring a clubs support than friggin supercoach and dream team.

Mate, we used to be the most supported in the land. If we get some success we'll be second to only Collingwood (who we used to have more supporters than)..

Hawthorn are a medium sized club and are not in the picture. They'll always be the 5th or 6th most supported in Vic. Now, I don't want this to turn into a 2010/2011 style pissing contest so I'll let our rise up the ladder reveal the truth to you. Enjoy having a tad more members than us. Won't last long. K thx, bye.

Where is your categorical proof that Richmond clearly have more supporters? Does your argument entirely lie on facebook numbers, by christ I hope you dont rely on your cognitive skills for your occupation. Remember the assertion isn't more supporters (which in itself is a debatable concept) but clearly more supporters (even 90% or is probably within the margin of error).

Whether Richmond have more supporters or not is immaterial (though it isn't proven categorically in any indicator whatsoever) the fact that you stated that they 'clearly have more supporters' (without backing up this assertion with any statistically significant evidence whatsoever) proves that you, like all Tigers fans who have 'canned' respected posters on the lines of crowd numbers (WTF?) are deluded fools.

With regards to the picture, forever a man of the 'big picture' are you refering to the club that clearly has a larger membership base, clearly generates great revenue, is a far stronger club off field (Tiger Fund (lol) notwithstanding) and has been the most successful club on the field since WWII?

Like I said if you can draw 84,000 on a sunny afternoon you'll go far

I love the smell of self-implosion in the morning ... it smells like ... VICTORY!

Why do so many people ITT (Richmond supporters in particular) give a shit about crowd numbers and whether the Pies/Tigers game will draw 80,000 or not?

Not really expecting us to win but kinda surprised at how few have tipped us. I admit that we definitely should and are going in as underdogs, however surely people have to give us a chance?

I don't know why people think it'll be a low turnout to Melbourne vs. GWS... We have over 30,000 registered members.
Well, only 18,500 turned up for your last home game against (arguably) a top 4 team. What makes you think it'll be any better this week, against the favourite for the spoon.

Read the last two pages of this thread. Then read his comment. Should make sense then.

Consistent support being the only thing we could hang our hat on given 30 years of being a joke?

Having a healthy membership necessarily mean that they'll pull a decent crowd every week. I thought their first two home games were proof of this.

Geelong are certainly a chance, you never right off a champion team. I think it is more to do with the fact that the game is in Sydney at the SCG, and it is bloody hard to win up there at the best of times, even harder when they are one of the best teams in the league.

It will certainly be a close, tough game.

I'll tell you the sensible answer mate if you are asking seriously.

Richmond's self image is as a powerhouse Melbourne Big 4 club. That, in the minds of the Richmond faithful is what we are. Now onfield over the decades we have performed like a dead fish and have been a laughing stock but ( BUT ) we have supported out team fantastically. Other clubs would have died. I honestly believe that only Collingwood and arguably Essendon coud have survived the post 1982 Richmond without relocation or death.

No other club relies on its pulling power to keep its place at the top table as we do. No other club's fans regard the matchgoing fanbase itself as THE club the way we do. It is n inevitable response to our history in the recent decades. Elsewhere the fans are the backdrop to the game. At Tigerland the game is the backdrop to the fans. The Tiger Army IS Richmond FC.

That is the answer if you ask seriously. Outnumberisng our ancient rivals Carlton, as we do year on year in Round 1 and Collingwood as we will on Saturday is our ( the fanbases ) way of saying to them...." look we are not down. We are still here. The Tiger Roar is still the loudest, The tiger Train is still the biggest buzz"

I like the Richmond facebook page despite not supporting them because I know a player there. Facebook likes isn't a good indication of supporter base lol.

Carlton facebook page has 133k likes ;) so I wouldn't look too much into it if I was a Richmond or Hawthorn supporter
