There's way too much emphasis on catching a rookies first price rise. If he's playing well and getting more games, he will continue to make lots of money in the following rounds. Especially since he's starting @ 89k. Last year I missed Zorko's (opening price 98k) first few price rises because I had injuries that needed sorting in other parts of the ground. I eventually bought him in @ around 230k. He still made me 250K though and ended up being a keeper. But could have traded him to just about any forward when he peaked. Although I already have Dwyer myself, if I didn't I would still bring him after his first price change, so long as he's getting games and playing well for his team he will continue to make lots of DT$

totally agreed, especially if Dwyer keeps racking up the points, then he'd be a keeper where his price rise wouldn't matter as much.

Agree with those who don't pick 2nd yr players off the back a big first year, but don't think people who took Zorko / Greene need a further kick in the guts, they're hurting enough. Nothing worse than "told you so" posts

It's difficult to tell with Zorko though, I think the main reason he isn't scoring well is because he has lost his midfield time.

I initially went with Zorko as a 1 round fill in for Stevie J. Unfortunately Johnson got injured and I was stuck with him for the extra round. In hindsight, I would have gone with Bartel but I just wasn't convinced on Bartel playing enough midfield time. I wasn't that far off, it's just that he racked up points as the loose man in defence late in games.

I do feel for those people that kept him for an extra round because he was up against GC.

Rockliff's "second year", was actually his third year. He spent 2009 on Brisbane's list and only started getting regular games in 2010 and was an awesome rookie priced player in DT. Then he smashed it in 2011.

Zorko is a mature aged player, so I could see the reasoning behind selecting him not that I did. The second year theory kind of doesn't really work with them IMO.

I'd read the chatter as well, but it was based on nothing. There was no logical reason in making Karny sub last week. This is crazy Vossy we're dealing with here. It's a worry because I have Rocky & Leuey in my starting 22 and it's only a matter of time before one or both are vest effected.

Yep, fully aware it was Rocky's 2nd / 3rd years on the list, it's more that it was his first full AFL season and his second as an established player. There's other examples of players who have been solid in their second year. Broughts was one, Stanley was very good last year. Libba doing a good job this year.

I don't subscribe to the mature ager argument. it's more about the level of attention in year 2, which is what Zorko is struggling with. Along with Moloney recruited and Rocky back to the mids meaning Zorko is playing 80-90% fwd and has a better opponent. Greene is 100% related to more attention, can't just run around and do what he likes.

I agree, however, my point was more seduced by price rather than Round One form at that point. It's not something I'll be discounting in the future.

Agree, in their top 5 all PS, was serviceable Rd 1 and plenty were worse. Why you make a guy sub whose key attribute is endurance defies belief. Stupid decision and would love to see it justified. Seems he's not a love child, time to move on

Anyone seriously interested in any of Mullet, Jack Steven or Howlett?

Mullett looks to be the pick of the bunch (haven't watched him play, which infuriates me, as I hate picking players without watching their gamestyle... so someone please tell me otherwise). He is the cheapest, and North has probably had the most quality opposition and they've lost all 3 matches, yet he's averaging ~100. (Collingwood, Geelong & Sydney)

Jack Steven another in that 95-100 bracket, maybe priced a little too high, and in a team that is going to be a little temperamental. Unsure if he will continue to score like this given Saints soft start (Gold Coast, Richmond, GWS). If you just need a minor price bump, he may suit your needs.

Howlett.... seems to be the forgotten man in the Essendon matches (which I have actually watched!). He seems to have been left completely free while the more "famous" names are all manned up or tagged, and Howlett can just ghost in (semi-Fyfe style, without the awesome jump) and get possessions at will. Not prolific, but certainly was consistently getting involved in link chains from one end of the field to the other. Essendon looking good this year, so he should continue to play in a winning side. Does that mean good scores? Who knows. He certainly won't attract a tag behind Watson, Stanton, Goddard, Heppell, etc.

Mullett scares me that he is still quite unique even after dishing big scores. I haven't seen him so it makes me wonder why this is.. not ballsy enough to put him in because of this.
Howlett interests me massively, but I think with this price rise coming that I've missed the boat.

Well i guess there is many peoples problems, how can crouch wait when he will be 60k more expensive the next week, you have a guy at 108k that will become 170k thats a massive.
