Yep that's why Hawthorn drafted Dear and Brereton or maybe just maybe we draft on potential talent we've identified.
???

The context of my post is that there is a chance that Ned coming to Hawthorn 'may' have been influenced by his father being there amongst other factors.

If I was the CEO of Hawthorn and my boy could play I would be extolling his virtues if I could. Seems pretty normal to me.

At best the fact he's the son of the CEO may have been enough to get our footy department to turn their heads and take a look at him. But also anyone his size who plays the game is going to be worth at least a cursory look. He still needed to be showing enough for our footy department to think there's potential there. So really this probably just got us to take notice before another club did.

And an AFL rookie contract isn't really that generous that Justin Reeves would sacrifice his integrity to get his son signed without merit. I'm sure if he was just trying to look after his son he could have found a much cruisier, better paying position within the club or elsewhere with his connections.

As for Lachie Langford only ending up on the list because of his name. Yes and no. He could still play and was a good size, and it was noted by a few at the time that both his father and Will took a little while to come on. Lachie was listed at the end of 2014, right after Will had just played the best footy of his career and was looking like being a star after being on the rookie list for years. So not an unreasonable use of our last rookie draft pick given those circumstances. But certainly agree that had he not been a Langford he would not have got picked with only having had school footy on his resume at that point.

Reeves fills it. Ceglar basically is filling it now he is that insipid.

The other benefit to Reeves is he is supposedly a centre bounce specialist focussed on giving midfielders first use.
Might suit the team for Reeves to focus on that and McEvoy to be the swing ruckman around the ground as needed.

This is pretty much my opinion as well. Furthermore I suspect that Reeves senior may have been privy to some inside knowledge as to why junior wasn’t drafted, what that may have been who knows. As for Lachie Langford, I was rapt that we took a chance on him. Didn’t work out but well worth the punt

Even if Reeves does come on as we all hope (and most expect) we still need to draft another ruckman either mid season or end of year. A clone David Hale type who can play forward as well to partner Reeves would be ace

If O'Brien and Ceglar are selected there will be plenty upset here
O’Brien will be named. Nothing surer with Lewis suspended and Gunston a week or two away.

Cegs might make way, but I’m guessing not.
