Autopsy Round 5, 2025: Hawks refuse to join Gather Round

Anyone with a brain knew that Port were going to come out all guns blazing early. Anyone but our players and coaching staff, it seems.

Just so disappointing as a Hawks supporter living here in Adelaide to see them dish that first half up :unamused:

This season is all about being in a good position to make top by about 3/4 way through the season when dear and Lewis come back. Just need to tick off as many wins up to that point as we can, it’s just a round 5 lost to an opponent in the league, move on and just keep trying to chalk up as many wins as possible until our best 2 key forwards and up back and firing cos that’s the only chance we have to win a flag in my opinion.
Bingo. Second half showed we’ve got it. 19 day break plus them out of their skins plus the run of the green equals here we are

His lack of pace is a real problem.
Ginni is a very smart footballer and great with ball in hand but yes unfortunately he has no pace and is a real problem in the position he plays. Think from memory that's why he dropped to the Rookie Draft back with concerns re his pace and athleticism.

Hoping his elite footy smarts outweigh his limitations and he can get back to what he is capable of.

I liked Moore in the middle as it gave us some dynamicism.

I liked Weddle on a wing in the final quarter and I hope it’s something we continue to pursue.

Although his sprays were ill directed, Sicily does offer us a sorely missing marking option forward.

Few interesting structural moves in the second half that I thought worked.

I am not sure CJ was scared, I think he regretted the push as soon as he did it.

100% Not on!

I actually loved that he did something and flew the flag. We were never ever mowing that score down and Willy was being a smart ass showing him the ball.

Willy needs to remember he used a fake penis to try and avoid a drug test before shooting his mouth off

What a wake up call. They absolutely were all over us, and stopped our game plan.

Onwards and upwards from here.
We're going to have to find a way when our outlet options are all cut off. We got away with it against Carlton because they're terrible with ball in hand, but for half a game, they strangled us too. There's a severe lack of long outlet options at the moment, which doesn't help.

Yeah it just means he can't create his own space when things aren't flowing well as a team.

Weddle and Gunston were great. Meek a lot better later on. Newcombe best of our mids. I actually thought CJ was our best backline player. Made 1 mistake when he went to ground, but thought he played well.

But we really are gonna miss Day. Midfield is too similar with Newcombe, Worpel, Ward, Nash. Rozee, Butters, JHF just absolutely destroyed us.

Chol has had a good year, so I'll be more forgiving and just hope he lifts next week.

Ginni however, where is he at? He also looks like he can't be bothered.

Re Chol, agree it was disappointing to see him continually outmarked by Esava but we have to be smarter in our kicks inside 50 (at least until Lewis / Dear are back). If we get a clean break from the middle the long kick to the pack 30 metres out is only a 20% chance for us to convert given our forward line personnel. If we can’t hit up someone on a lead / in space (first option), much rather we go for a chaos ground ball that plays to our strengths of smalls pressuring, vs a standard long kick to pack. We would need to drill this intensively as it goes against the instincts of every footballer however..

CJ must learn to take body contact in D50. He can not walk past the ground ball… avoiding contact at all costs & it costs goals.

Chol i thought needed a rest… but 15 days later bought no energy or fight.

We didnt learn the lesson. Again.

He’s a gun but can’t have him. Weak boy couldn’t turn up at north and needed a trade home. Hope north gets a flag and he doesn’t. Absolute tip rat, from a long line of tip rats.
Him and Ken are made for each other
Zero care factor for JHF and his lack of character. I’m concerned about a midfield torn to shreds when it mattered. And it mattered at the beginning of this game. Mitchel/ coaches box and players overawed by the game and the moment once again. Was rinse and repeat as last year. They learnt nothing.

As rubbish as the first half was I think if that Moore push in the back was called and the ball went the other way and we score then we would have won this game. Instead it was a no whistle and Port scored from that entry.

Ginni needs a rest, looking slow and second guessing himself around the contest. God we missed "Day"!

Ginni is missing something. His body language looks off and something doesn’t look right. He looks to have lost that happiness he once played with.
