If we can’t win this and win it handsomely, we have a problem. North are poor ball users under pressure, which means we will go a long way to winning it if we bring the team defence and pressure.

I am reluctant to criticise Jasper Fletcher, but he needs to lift in the regard. His lack of defensive run, which resulted in two second quarter goals against Collingwood last week really stood out. In the first instance he needed to put body pressure on Steele and got caught out ball watching. The second was more egregious. He just jogged from the wing to the back pocket, without applying any defensive pressure and wasn’t putting in.

The first instance is from 08:00
The second is from 08:38

There is no doubt that Jasper Fletcher is one of our most promising players, but he needs to work hard both ways.

With Coleman, Zorko, Fletcher and Wilmot in defence, we have amazing rebound capacity, but not having Starcevich means we are lacking hard defensive lock down across half back. Each of these players is a STAR in their own right, but we need them to be more aware of their defensive roles.

I am pretty confident the two passages I’ve highlighted would have been in Fletcher’s video review.

We need it to be a spanking. Something of this magnitude would be great.

I was at this one and I think we kicked 20 goals straight. The amazing thing was that North Melbourne were on top of the ladder coming into the game.

I got terrible drunk at this game. I think Rendell kicked 9?

Kiddy needs to lift
Very disappointing performance last week
That hit on side bum rubbish
He still played this week
I want to hear the ribs breaking
Too much, sorry haven’t had my weetbix yet, bit cranky.
Was a great Great tackle from Kiddy.
Karagon from the broncos needs to watch that footage of kiddy on how to get low on the tackle.
Masterclass

We can’t lose today, must get win.
Kill, crush, destroy.( lost in space fans will get that one)

Quietly going about our business. I think we, this team at this time, are just building nicely and are a little bit out of the spotlight. (playing last Thursday night was early for the weekend footy shows and too far back for the early week shows) We haven't seen as much commentary on us yet and with the early Saturday game out of town that will probably be the same this week.

Joyce out and Gallop still in was what I suggested pre-season and again a few weeks back - Gallop is the nominated one. With Payne gone, Hipwood doubtful, Gardnier long term injured we need to think of the future and right now Gallop as a key back with Harris is our best option. We just have to be patient, he is still just a kid and for a key Blackman with that much responsibility we will get frustrated with him but I still think he is our best option. I'm bullish because he can play both ends when needed but still think the long term for the team, is he moves back and learns the craft as he has the skills and plays with a bit of aggression.

Go Lions, let's just see the engine purr along today with Hugh back in. Not a big win, just comfortable, with a couple of 10 minute bursts where we flip it into top gear.

Need to be switched on as they’ve played well against us recently and really should’ve won last year. They’ve improved again this year, so it’s certainly no gimme.

Last weeks game was the best 4 quarter performance from us for quite a while though, so hopefully we’ve found our groove again. Just need to keep ticking off the wins over the next few weeks and join the pack who will inevitably start seperating themselves from the rest.

I was at this one and we kicked the last 15 goals unanswered. We kicked 21 goals to 2 after half time. The amazing thing was that North Melbourne were on top of the ladder coming into the game.

I was there too! 😍
Naturally, I was convinced that we were going to lose because “North was better than us.”
What a great day!

Not beating them last year ended up meaning diddly squat.
Is it really much different this year ?

However ...
Just Win FFS !!

What position did Fletcher play in juniors? Not that that is career defining, especially in the Lions where we are all about versatility.

is he the Lester of this generation? i.e. not playing a position that he will own but filling a gap, which includes changing his role depending on who is around him?

Fletcher might be shuffled around a bit, but I don’t think that helped Lester or Ah Chee for that matter. They were both better footballers when they had a clear position.

Fletcher will eventually move to the midfield, where it becomes even more important to run both ways.

Currently 15 but 'feels like' 8. I am hoping it reminds us we were poor and lacking motivation last time in similar conditions.

Massive danger game I reckon. North would be desperate to be 4-1 and really launch their season. We have played so many big games in the past 7 years and have to get ourselves up for a game at a country oval in front of a few thousand people.

Would be very happy with any sort of win at all.
