I don’t normally fire up but I’m going to now. Those of you calling for Murdoch to be dropped have a look at the past couple of games and see how valuable he is. He barely EVER misses a target, his disposal efficency is great, he transitions the ball superbly off half back and uses the ball well. Dewy sees the potential in him thankfully.
He wasn't great early but definitely this week was one of our best.

I think especially with Scrimshaw seemingly doing well, Brodie would be looking elsewhere.
- disclaimer, not seen a single Hawks game, just the stats.

IMO it's probably not going to be like for like, but between Powell (concussion), Holman and Joyce we could probably free up two spots.
Holman?
You're having a laff
He won the game for us on the weekend
Will has played 11 senior games averaging 17.5 disposals and 4.5 tackles and kicked 0 goals.(Corrected-who's data was I reading??:drunk:)
He's one dimensional
We all hope he'll be Joe Kennedy or Cripps but he's a long way off that right now

He is actually playing very well for the Hawks. No point having a top 10 pick that don't want to put in the hardwork because he is away from home.

Wrong figures there averages 19 disposals and 5 tackles pretty good for a 20 year old

The guy wasn't played because he and his father made it clear they weren't going to sign another contract with us from virtually day one
Why he was selected in the first place God only knows
We basically fed and watered the idiot child for his moronic parents and the Hawthorn Football Club for 2 years

I can only access Footywire and I'm sure that was his career avg but checking again 17.5 disposals and 4.5 tackles- apologies to Wil
My biggest concern with him is speed and damage.
No goals in those 11 games-(hopefully Footywire got that right)

You are not wrong thought , why would you move Swallow (30) 8 tackle ,Miller (31 ) 6 tackle , Florini (30) disposal 6 tackle vs Carlton out of their effective position to allow Brodie in , if Brodie in for Holman /Joyce he need to do what dew ask Holman to do or what Joyce do for their position in the team .

Exactly
He's just not good enough to displace those guys at the moment
Hopefully he'll go on to a good career-preferably with us but maybe at another Club
And if he blossoms at another Club so be it-that's the way of the World
He's been emergency a few times
You can guarantee if Dave goes down he'll be in the selectors viewfinder front and square

If Swallow, Bowes, Fiorini or Miller go down. Brodie will be right there to take there spot. But at the moment. Based on form, you can't drop any of those 4. He will get his chance this year, hopefully when he does, he takes it with both hands.

Can't drop Holman, small forward that tackles and nailed 2 important goals for us this past weekend, the man can actually take a grab.

Joyce has been touch and go IMO. Could lose his spot, but he plays a role which we don't have a lot of which is the specialist lock down back pocket, don't really have anyone else to play there.

Powell is out injured, so there is a spot there ready to go, but can Brodie play on the wing, or is that spot filled by someone like Weller coming back into the fold who will give us speed and drive off that wing. Or if not Weller, Ah Chee who has that pace and kicking, or GHS with his experience and hardened body. I am glad we have all this competition for spots, it drives the team forward, and if someone like Brodie is shoved out because of it. It sucks because we invested a top 10 pick in him, but I want people in the team on merit, not because they may leave us at the end of the year.

we all know will brodie can find the ball just question marks remain on how well he use's it. from what ive seen in 2 neafl games this year he doesnt hurt the opposition enough with his disposal.
GHS looked awesome yesterday and should be a certain starter for us this week.
A lot of Will's kicks seem to be to a pack and rarely to the advantage of our players down the line. He's a contested beast, and if he only uses his hands in close he's great. I'm more worried that his kicking will never be AFL standard more so than him leaving us.

Not a laff at all. Ainsworth came in for Weller this week, there's no need for it to be like for like. We have flexibility.

And if you're thinking Holman has a consistent bone in his body, you're dreaming. He's likely to get 8 touches and one tackle next week. Him and Joyce are at best depth going forward — if not we have serious talent issues.

And yet we still need to find out what Brodie has to offer, or we burn another high pick through developmental shortcomings. At the very least he has an upside that dwarfs Holman's.

While Holman probably isn't the bees knees in that position, I don't think Brodie, with his skills atm, is the one to replace him. Brodie is a big bodied contested freak and he needs to replace Miles, Swallow, Bowes or Miller, and right now, he's not good enough to do that. And as far as developmental shortcomings go, Clayton has gone and so too the midfield coach in Primus...
If Brodie stays, I would expect huge improvement from him over the next 12-24 months, if he hasn't already made up his mind to move on. If he moves on, so be it. It's all up to him.

If last year I would said the same thing as you about Holman , but this year I really see the big picture what Dew want . Miller and Holman type is more like GWS Deboer , both can tag a mid or play as a forward pressure role . If you are outside of best 18 you need to come in and play a role and be flexible . AFL is not all about disposal, sometime over handball and turnover get you into trouble .eg Carlton Paddy Dow get 20 disposal but is his disposal good or bad. If Powell go down who come in and play his role after half time , what happen if you got one rotation less than opposition .

So it’s looking like Brodie and Martin gone at years end, watch the Vic media have a field day with that

I’m calling it now Brodie to Carlton and Martin to Tullamarine in both cases we will get well unders, Brodie because we haven’t played him and Martin because the needles have nothing to give having already given up this years 1st as part of the Sheil deal

Geez! We are three and one.. Having probably the best 4 game run of our existence, without Ablett, Prestia, Bennel, Dixon, May and Lynch.. can't we just enjoy it!

I don't know why we are worrying about this now. A lot can change in a season. If we get to Rd 15 and people still haven't re-signed then we can start to panic at the moment, enjoy the ride we are on.

This is nothing compare to GWS , Cognilio ,Kelly ,Hooper , Tomlinson .
Will Brodie 400k a season , I rather get two/ three midfielder/small forward in mid season draft or SPP from state league .

I think Brodie will probably move due to starved opportunities but i'm still not sold on Martin leaving yet. Regardless i'm not too worried even if they do plenty of players fighting for a spot.

Our win-loss records going into round 5.

2011: 0-4
2012: 0-4
2013: 1-3
2014: 2-2
2015: 0-4
2016: 3-1 (lost round 5 to North)
2017: 2-2
2018: 2-2
2019: 3-1

This Sunday we have an opportunity to do something we've never done before - start a season with a record of 4-1. The Crows are also the only team in the AFL we are yet to record a victory over. History is on the line and I hope it's going to be a Happy Easter for us on Sunday!

I'll take a competitive performance against the Crows. Keep it within 4 goals and you would take that.

Setting my expectations low, hopefully meaning we spring a surprise and get the win. Probably our best chance in our history to knock them off.
