I think many of the positional changes over the pre-season were about letting the kids take their preferred roles and putting senior players and depth wherever needed to support.

I was wondering why on earth our best defender capable of stopping KPFs ended up in the forwardline but that explanation makes more sense than anythin I came up with.

Definitely cue in the rack time as far as finals are concerned if that is the case I'd say.

I wouldn’t be dropping Jones- his leading patterns and repeat efforts have been sorely missed from our forward line for years, and is exactly what is helping it function right now.

I agree. I was wondering that too. If the fact that Jones is constantly moving/leading is really helping Hooker and Stringer.

Opposition players need to spend so much time watching and moving with Jones, that Hooker and Stringer are able to move for freely in our forward line.

yep, it really is - a couple of times Channel 7 have accidentally shown some useful footage rather than close ups of players sprinting to the bench after a goal... man i miss attending games live...

I don’t see any reason to make a heap of changes. I’d just like to see a genuine ruckman in this week. Otherwise maybe Redman if he’s fit.

It doesn't mean they don't want to win games, they absolutely do. It's just that we're not going to see desperation coaching like your career depends on scraping into finals.

I think the Ambrose forward training is about versatility. He already knows how to defend and could slot back there in two seconds.

Rutten has (thankfully) not been moving the magnets around much. With a lot of players settled at one end only it makes sense to have a true swing man up your sleeve.

Don’t be surprised if Ambrose plays both ends even within a game.

Are they really? That’s surprising.

Not saying we’ll win, but the level of pressure and effort Essendon are applying doesn’t make them easy beats at the moment.

Particularly as we have an 8 day break to refresh.

No, we're very doomsday at the moment. Not sure what old mate is on about.

If someone comes out of the forwardline for a tall reshuffle it will be Waterman.

It's probably more likely Phillips comes in for Wright bu I can't say I love the idea of that.

I can't find a HOTA stat but my impression was that most of the ruck contest was a stale mate. Hickey was better but it wasn't till the last quarter by which time Wright had blown up and wasn't rucking that Hickey really took control.

The real negative impact of Wright's game was his inability to impact in the air around the ground. Just didn't seem to expect the physical heat that would come and didn't give the contest we needed. There is nothing about this aspect of his performance that needs him to be a specialist ruck. The contest is exactly what we expect from our 203cm CHF.

The lack of contest from a 203cm CHF is exactly why he was free.

A lot of Brisbane fans of the opinion that they’re going to thrash us.

Think they’ll be rather surprised if we continue the same form we’ve had the past two weeks.

I don't know any Brisbane fans that think this. Go check our preview thread, this is a massive danger game. TBH - we know exactly the sort of spirit you are playing with and we are playing shite. If you bring the right intensity, this game us right there for the taking. We are spooked.

I love what you Guys are doing, I think you've had a tranformative draft/trade period. Good luck Saturday.

Don’t think the AFL will let Brisvegas get off to a 1-4 start at home*. Especially with the media feel-good Joe stories. If the home side isn’t 6 goals up at qtr time we can probably expect the umps to apply some ‘influence’ to the game once again.

* caveat - unless the away team is one of Sydney, West Coast, or Port

Do you think there is a disadvantage when a player leaves a club for another club and then they play that team?
I assume the leaving player will sell all the secrets of the club they left.
Essendon got smashed by Port Adelaide and Orazio went to them.
Will the same happen with Brisbane and Joe?

I would have thought a new Essendon coach and different playing style would counteract this.

Not really. Stef martin and the dogs just smashed brisbane

I didnt finish my comment.. stef martin and the dogs beat his old side, but the week before we smashed mckernan and the saints. I think the results would be almost split even with players coming up against their old side

I wouldn't think there's too much inside information in the AFL, most of what is known about a side from the previous season is already clear. We don't run set plays like the NFL do where it might be of some benefit.

People already know how Richmond play, they've done basically the same thing for 5 years now. Temas just haven't worked out how to reliably execute a way to beat the way they play. Trading for Cotchin (for example) isn't going to bring some kind of special insight as to how to beat them.
