Yes, I said it. Cause it is true. Rankine will be rated much higher amongst the forwards because of his midfield stats. Same with guys like Dylan Moore and Brent Daniels. Those guys were amongst the top rated forwards (non KPP) last year by Champion Data. They had Jack Macrae as a forward at the end of 2024. If they haven't changed his position, he's going to currently be close to the #1 forward in the competition.

But what I didn't say was that means these players are no good. Which you were implying was my train of thought. I never said that about anyone (including Switta). I was referring specifically to Switkowski as an example of how these Champion Data elite labels can be flawed/skewed. Flanders being rated last year as an elite defender is another one. Again, a good player, but he's not an elite player.

Switta was ranked by Champion Data (at the end of 2024) as a better forward than Papley, Pickett, Stengle, Cameron. How do you explain this? Do you think he is actually better than those players?
I explain it as his impact on his team has been greater than those players. I get what your saying as being a 'small forward' however player ratings are a player's impact on his teams performance of which Switta was 'better' than those aforementioned players.

I'm not unhappy with that yet. Ruck, wing/mid, half back replaced with Ruck, mid, half forward.

Some shuffling going on.

Play Worner forward on Short just to mix it up even more, lock him down. Stifle their ball movement. Averaging 467m gained this year. +25% on the next highest, Vlastuin.

In comparison, Freo have four players at around Short's level or higher: Serong (452), Brayshaw (458), Clark (486), Ryan (517).

So all that carry on about how Dudley was a sure thing to get dropped was for nothing? Who would have thought? I don't know how people convinced themselves he was getting dropped, I don't think it was ever going to be anything but the big 3 coming in for the 3 guys dropped.

Wagner comes back next week which will end up with Worner going out, Dudley is safe until at the least, Walters is feeling ready to come back.

Although we are younger and basically the same experience, I'd much rather our list profile. Much more balanced but without the Veterans yet. We are going to be unstoppable in 2 more years.

Interesting point.

Our current best twenty two moved forward to 2027 has these players out of contract:
O'Meara (2026)
Sharp (2025)
Voss (2026)
Worner (2025)
O'Driscoll (2026)
Frederick (2026)
Wagner (2026)
Switkowski (2026)
Banfield (2026)
Dudley (2025)
Johnson (2026)

Everyone else is already locked in for season 2027.

Alternatively, these are the players already locked in for 2027:
Serong, Darcy, Chapman, Clark, Brayshaw, Jackson, Ryan, Bolton, Reid, Amiss, Pearce, Young, Simpson, Walker, Treacy, Cox, Draper.

The core is solid.

Walker, Pearce, Ryan
Clark, Cox, Draper
Chapman, Serong, WING
Reid, Treacy, Bolton
Jackson, Amiss, Simpson
Darcy, Brayshaw, Young
IC, IC, IC, IC

I'd hope Johnson, Frederick, O'Driscoll fill three of those spots, perhaps Voss the 4th.

Happy with this. Other than losing Jackson as he's in such great form at least we're replacing him with someone we know is a very good player. Darcy might take a while to get his touch but he can play.
The other ins are strong and we still have the bones of a team that showed signs of gelling in the important areas last week.

Yep,
As long as Darcy isn’t an injury risk I’d rather he has a Rusty game against Richmond than Melbourne. He usually takes a few weeks at AFL level to get back to his best so Jackson out has forced our hand.

Nankervis is going to absolute push him around though. Knees, holds, pushes to the side. Big test for a first game back

I think there’s potential for Freo to win their next 2 game by a combined 150 points.

If you think about it:

1) Richmond are Richmond and have an an average losing margin of 60 points this year.

2) Freo beat Melbourne in round 12 last year by 91 points when Melbourne were 4th on the ladder. Now Melbourne are objectively worse than last year so it’s reasonable to suggest that Freo beat them by 120 points at the MCG.

Fremantle can set up their season in the space of a fortnight.
