I think anyone who did understood the risk of a late change. Stevenson was omitted due to form and not injury or suspension. No, I didn't have him as captain.

It irritates me in that I put the emergency on Pittard ahead of Stevenson. If one of my five remaining backs are a late out then it's a donut.

“The reason he (Stevenson) was out was because we had one too many defenders once we’d made the decision to bring Paul Stewart back in,” he explained.

“West Coast have a big forward line – Kennedy, Darling, Cox or Sinclair, LeCras – and we had to go in with a bigger defence and one of Pittard or Stevo would miss out.

“It wasn’t a decision based on form, it was just ‘horses for courses’”

Doubtful. If the reason he was dropped was because they wanted to go taller in defence then with Pittard out, he should just slot into Pittards spot. I doubt Pittard was going to be the sub.
