Round 5: Team vs Essendon

I would like the bench to end up as:

Interchange: Brent Macaffer, Tarykn Lockyer, Chris Dawes, Alan Toovey

Get the feeling we won't see Dawes though. If O'Bree replaces Macaffer I will be fuming.

Reid for Presti, Dawes for Leroy.

Without Williams, surely we won't need the spare man work of Leroy down back, and up front, Dawes has it over Leroy.

Reid is best fit for Presti, and as mentioned, named in position.

If Leigh Brown is not dropped for Dawes this week, he will never get dropped and it can also ruin Dawes confidence similar to C.Bryan last year he as kicking bags for the first 5 or 6 games and couldnt get a game so he became a dud in VFL as well.

Interchange from: Leigh Brown, Brent Macaffer, Tarykn Lockyer, Chris Dawes, Nathan Brown, Alan Toovey, Shane O’Bree

I'd say off that interchange, the 3 emergencies tomorrow night will be O'Bree, N.Brown and L.Brown, or at least that's what I hope.

Would be dissapointed if MaCaffer or Toovey were dropped, as they have both provided more then Fraser or Leigh Brown over the past few weeks.

O'Bree to me is named as "Luke Ball" backup, just in case Ball doesnt come up.

Final changes, hopefully;

In: Dawes, Reid
Out: L.Brown, Presti

I would have Leroy, OB and tooves off that interchange. Fingers crossed for Dawes and Macaffer.

If that goes ahead the side could look like this:

B: Harry O'Brien, Nathan Brown, Nick Maxwell
HB: Heath Shaw, Ben Reid, Sharrod Wellingham
C: Luke Ball, Dane Swan, Steele Sidebottom
HF: Josh Fraser, Travis Cloke, Alan Didak
F: Paul Medhurst, Chris Dawes, Leon Davis

FOLL: Darren Jolly, Scott Pendlebury, Dale Thomas
INTER: Ben Johnson, Dayne Beams, Brent Macaffer, Tarkyn Lockyer
EMG:
Leigh Brown, Shane O'Bree, Alan Toovey

Not a bad side in my opinion

Who would we put back if Gumby/Hurley start getting the better of Reid? Or how are we planning on covering Hille, Gumby and Hurley.

Leroy is virtually a certainty for mine. We need the extra cover.

In all honesty, considering Fraser is the golden child, I'd be looking at a small to swap for Dawes and hopefully the one that would be in the gun would be Lockyer. Doubt it would happen, but it's what I'd probably do (second to Fraser out obviously).

O'Bree is backup, as has been said, for Bally.

Reid cert to play.

C'mon MM take a punt of the BEAST.

IN: Reid, BEAST
OUT: Presti, Leroy

I think Harry O may go to Hurley, Reid on Gumby, Maxwell on resting ruckman, IF Leroy doesn't play.

Looks a risky move now you look at it like that. Ideally, it should be Fraser if the BEAST Plays or a small.

We could put Dawes back there, he would still do a better job than Leigh Brown:cool:

No point bringing Dawes in to play him out of position.

Maxwell could take Gumbleton imo. I realise there's a bit of a heigh difference, but I think Maxwell could outbody Gumby, and be fine with him on the lead. Maxwell will be able to run of him as well.

Reid to Hurley, failing that Harry or Leroy. Leroy generally on the resting ruckman or any other talls they decide to throw up there.

Shaw on Reimers.

Unfortunately L.Brown gets another go due to Presti injury. Big call to just have Reid without back up from L.Brown - eventhough it can be argued Gumby & Hurely are just as inexperienced as Reid. Fear Dawes misses out as a result.

Think the changes will be:

Out -Presti (inj) Ball(inj)
In - Reid, O'Bree

now the question is , which dud essendon player will stand up to play the best game of his career on anzac day , they have one each year i swear

Wouldn't it be something if Dawes came in, and was a revelation? It would be amazing if he showed Gumby and Hurley up. I really hope he plays, it could be a defining game for him.

I'm happy to see Reid in, too.

You would presume that one of Macaffer or Toovey will need to be dropped for Dawes to make way, while Nate Brown will prob play vfl on sat. L.brown and Tarks will be included for 'veteran' experience while 2 of dawes, caff and toovs will play. Personally I hope Dawes plays as I believe he's been exception in the magoos and deserves a chance. For who goes out between Caff and Tooves, well it doesn't really matter because both have been good without being exceptional this year.

I don't get this worry about having excess cover for Essendon's tall forwards. gumbleton and Hurley are obviously talented youngsters, but they're hardly likely to become overnight superstars who can tear a well organised AFL defence to shreds. The way that I see it Reid, Maxwell, OBrien and Toovey gives us enough cover for the Dons. If Brown plays ahead of Reid, I'll be disappointed.

The entire side will stand up, and fail miserably the week after. It's a given.

We need to worry about every nobody on their list because they're Wayne Carey come ANZAC day.

Our defense as a unit is brilliant, but if we are forced to play man-on-man and they cut us up for speed, their talls may cause problems, particularly with Presti out. Hurley is the worry, I was counting on Presti nullifying him, but that's down the drain now. Reid will probably go with Gumbleton, Leeroy to the resting ruckman, Harry or Maxy to Hurley. Monfries and Reimers also need attention [Heath and Toovey].

yeah right, I seem to recall a thrashing the year before. Look the don's will come out breathing fire, we need to absorb the pressure and then grind them down. Lets make no mistake though, they aren't Geelong or St kilda so lets not fear them.

Yes, I remember the thrashing too. I'm generalising. And generally, they rise to the occasion and give us a tough match [or beat us] despite us being superior all over the field. That's the nature of a good rivalry, and I'm not pencilling in anything but a good match.
