Rodan returns, Weller to debut
5:43:50 PM Thu 22 April, 2004
Sportal

David Rodan will make his return to the seniors after one game in the VFL last week, and former Brisbane Lion Luke Weller will make his senior debut for the Tigers against Adelaide at Telstra Stadium on Friday night.

Weller, picked up at number 11 overall in the pre-season draft, has been named at centre half-forward and Rodan on the bench.

They replace Jay Schulz and Kane Pettifer who were dropped from the line-up that went down to Geelong last week.

Schulz, Rory Hilton and Tim Fleming are the emergencies.

Veteran defender Nigel Smart has been dropped from the Adelaide line-up. The Crows' selectors made three changes with midfielder Jacob Schuback also omitted while forward Scott Welsh was forced out with a groin strain.

Into the Adelaide line-up comes Ian Perrie, who's been named in a forward pocket, Ronnie Burns who will be playing his first senior match for 2004, and 21 year-old Nathan Bock who will be making his AFL debut.

Recruited from Woodville/West Torrens, the 193 cm, 82 kg defender was elevated from the Rookie List to the Primary List in 2002.

Well done to Weller on his first game for us. Hopefully Rodan gets his hands on the footy like he did for Coburg last weekend.

We should rename Pettifer yo-yo. Spends one week at Coburg, one week in the seniors, one week at Coburg. Problem is we promoted him based on one good game instead of making him show consistency over a number of VFL matches. Hyde is lucky to still be there too.

Smart and Welsh are a couple of bad losses for the Crows especially as Hart is injured and their forward line isn't functioning too well this year.

While I am pleased that Weller is being given a short, I am again disappointed at the lack of opportunity given to Schulz and Pettifer.

They are both first round draft picks and have a fair bit of natural talent but their confidence must be continually short by getting little game time and dropped every second week.

Give them both a job to do and let them sink or swim.

Good news about smart and welsh being out they are dangers. Good to see hall named at FF as he would do ok there. With morrison and weller up there and ottens drifting forawrd then thats 3 marking targets. Krakouer to crumb. Good to see tiva and fiora up forawrd. Gasper to get carey. A.Kellaway for perrie. Chaff for burns.

We really need a win guys and if we dont win the next 2 games im on the bandwagen for draft picks. Go u mighty tigers.

With an underdone burns and perrie we should be advantaged
