Congratulations on the well earned win. An amazing comeback from you guys. Your fitness must be so much better than Melbourne's keep them to two behinds and Nankervis won an amazing amount of hit outs. Thought our ruck department were especially poor after qtr time and it kind of played into your hands.

If you guys can avoid big losses to Adelaide, Dogs and GWS as well as putting up an honorable loss to Essendon, then 5-4 with a good percentage will set you up well for a tilt at finals.

Your rucks were ok.
It was more your mids like the co captains that let you down. Jeez they are tough hombres though, which is something the Dees have lacked for...actually forever.
And Bernie Vince...nasty, in a cute kinda way. Roosy must be proud.
Have a word to number 1, the Marlborough Man. Needs to whinge a bit more when he doesn't get the free. Seems to be the m.o. down there at Demon land (and in the MCC)
Hope you enjoyed the atmosphere playing against a big club on a big occasion. Will be watching your attendances over the next few weeks.

Commiserations on losing Polly Farmer and Wayne Carey before half time. The result may have been closer.

Agree on Elton.

Watch the contest that creates Dusty's goal. It's Elton versus 4 Demons. Fantastic effort.
Yes.

If he was a 30 games plus player it would fair to say that he needs to do more than create some contests and take two marks in a game. However, from memory, Griff was only getting a 5 or so possessions a game in his first 10 games or so. If Elton can improve his output slightly (couple more possessions; kick the odd goal and be in more contests bringing the ball to ground, he would be achieving around the same averages of Griff & TV over their first few years (again from memory). If he stays at his current output without improving, then not good enough - see out your time in the 2s. But if he improves a bit he should get more games.

By 30 plus games, he should either be further improved (eg 1 to 2 goals a match) or bye bye. For now though (if he keeps improving), or until a tall in the twos consistently plays well enough to demand a spot, then IMO he should be persevered with a little longer than 3 games.

After watching the replay of the last quarter, I lost count of how many times the flogs reminded us of the Dee's losing 2 players, and they were effectively two players down. Of interest, the 20 point lead was obtained without these two players. But as soon as Jack kicked his first in the last, the commentators were all over it. Had nothing to do with the way we played. Had nothing to do with Hunt kicking the ball out of bounds under no pressure whatsoever.

But while the commentators were reminding the viewers of the huge loss of two ineffective players, there was a camera shot of Viney, sitting on the bench, with a timer showing he had spent 8 of the first 9 minutes of the last quarter on the bench. Meanwhile, Jones can't find the ball, Tyson had gone awol and their only effective mid was Oliver, who threw the ball better than a basketballer.

Normally I listen to the radio at the game but i had to put it away for the same reason. Was doing my head in. They were missing a 2 game newby and another guy who had played 30 odd games in 9 years. Didn't affect their midfield at all. Don't care what anyone says they were cooked at 3/4 time and it wasn't due to injuries.

We allowed Melb to have i50's. we play a counter attack game, which relies on other teams bombing it in and us running it out. Melb played into our hands. First half the skills were deplorable so richmond couldnt run the ball out, so it kept coming back in, but the second half, they started using the ball well and the ball didnt come back in as often.
Adelaide does have better ball users, but with Rance and Astbury rock like in the last few weeks, they'll need to use the ball perfectly to avoid what we did with Melb.
100% this. They're not controlled entries, they're wild, which makes them low probability.

Come on the rest of you guys. Don't be too hard on this pathetic troll.
Melbourne WERE VERY BRAVE playing with only 16 on the ground for the whole of the last quarter.
That we could only manage 5.5 to their awesome 0.2 reflects very poorly on us!

Betts is likely to destroy us, don't think we have anyone that can go with him.

Grimes can, more so worried about Tom Lynch getting off the chain.
If Astbury goes to Walker, Rance will need to go to Lynch/Otten (depends where Otten plays)

Don't think Short has the defensive ability to play on Betts. Plus, we may need him to play on Charlie Cameron. He has been rotating through the middle a bit as well.

Nankervis was well on top before Spencer went down. Having Watts play ruck provided an extra mid around every stoppage and ball up. Made perfect sense from a coaching perspective considering Jones, Viney and Tyson went missing when Cotchin and Martin stepped up a gear.. Oliver is a fantastic player. Would have an impressive basketball background with his throwing technique. Of course, the two Brownlow favorites that suffered injuries, were not contributors to the 20 point lead at 3qtr time. It is also a shame that the Demons coach is no longer paid by the AFL, as Roos would not allow a "gun" midfielder to sit out the first 9 minutes of the last quarter, with the game still in the balance (even with the two Demons match winners out injured).

The weather has turned blustery and cold in the last 2 days. Perfect timing for an early snow season. You could tell the Dee's supporters were mighty upset as they stuffed their scarves into their man-bags, with the discussions turning to whether they needed chains for their trip to Mt Hotham next week.

If the Dockland's Demons can string together one or two more wins for the season, they might still be in line for more handouts from the AFL.
