MVP Round 5 Votes v Sydney

5. Tom Barrass
4. Patrick Naish
3. Liam Ryan
2. Alex Witherden
1. Bailey Williams.

Barrass was the only player for us who you could judge as having a 'good' game. Back to his aerially dominant best, did well with so much supply coming in.

Naish racked it up but his disposal was off. To be fair though, his team mates weren't helping him much with providing options ahead of him.

Ryan only gets votes because he converted his chances. Not a great game really.

Witherden used the ball okay but had a few defensive errors himself.

Bailey gets a vote for not dropping his head after a poor first half and managing to take a couple of nice grabs and convert a mark inside 50 into a goal.

Hard to give votes after that pile of crap. Votes are only for the first half because everything after that was basically academic with the game well out of reach.

5 - Tom Barrass. Comfortably BOG for us. Swans kick another 4 or 5 if not for him. Good game. 8/10.
4 - Patrick Naish. Plenty of ball. Showed a lot of heart. Skills a bit iffy. Above average game. 7/10.
---- Every other player was either average of worse and you won't win any games of footy when that happens ----
3 - Alex Witherden. Decent with ball in hand. Definitely suspect defensively. Posted this last week but think he is better further up the field on the wing or the HFF. 5.5/10.
2 - Hugh Dixon. Again showed plenty of heart which is the obvious trademark of his game. 5/10.
1 - Liam Ryan. Worked hard from minimal supply. 5/10.

Liam Duggan (reasonably solid given how under the pump he was), Jack Redden (beaten but took on a big workload), Josh Kennedy (worked hard with minimal supply) and Luke Foley (like the other defenders got through a mountain of work) all got a 4 or 5/10.

The remaining thirteen players were 3's and lower with the returning trio of Yeo, Kelly and Shuey absolutely miles off the pace whilst Bailey Williams is still a long way from being able to stand up as a first ruck and ultimately that's what killed us. Inside 50's 40 to 10 at HT was a true reflection of their midfield dominance.

If you're ranking players performance on the day from both teams there's probably 14 or 15 Swans by the time you get to Witherden as our third best.

I've had Naish and Dixon in my votes for the last three rounds and whilst their stories are great and it looks like they are going to provide us two great value for money options in their respective roles, them appearing consistently in the votes is very unlikely to be good for our season (although, being honest the season is shot anyway).
