First game of the next round, and the 2-3 Giants take on the high-flying 5-0 ladder leaders in a Friday night game in the capital. While the action may be white hot, we're hoping the environment won't be white cold, with a frosty night expected. Although the Giants will be happy with 2 wins on the board after their initial 0-3 start, they will start decidedly as underdogs to a Bulldogs team that are doing everything right in every area of the ground. A great midfield, good forwards kicking goals, and a solid defence, they will be difficult to crack. While GWS has improved, we're still quite a junior side after the off-season departures and the raft of early season injuries. I don't need to reprise the history between our two teams - the Bulldogs are the team we simply detest, and they us, so things will be hot both off and on the field. However, Toby leading the side will certainly be fired up to take on the dogs, and hopefully that will lift our young guys.
There's no denying, this will be a tough game to win. While we may have ended Sydney's undefeated run, the Dogs will be a much tougher proposition. They have less inexperienced players to hit the wall - their team is well-balanced in terms of experience. If GWS are going to win, it will be led by the midfield, who quite simply will need to beat what is probably the best current midfield in the comp. We also cannot afford to repeat our inaccurate goal-kicking from last round or we'll be toast.
Team changes. Well, there's a whole thread on the possible changes. Basically, the main question is around the ruck - keep Mummy, or change to a fresh ruckman; and do we consider taking two rucks in to match the Martin-English combination? The second question will be who replaces the injured Sam Reid. I would hope that Perryman has recovered from his glandular fever to take that place. If not, you'd think Leon would go with Matt Buntine again. The only other question is probably whether Hogan might get a call up - in which case who would be replace? I would presume Jake Riccardi would be the most likely one in the firing line. Doubt there would be too many likely other changes, unless Lachie Whitfield happened to be ready to go.
