Daicos’ running ability is sublime and we just let him have free run except in the 3rd. There was one clearance where Ashcroft lined up on him and just didn’t bother chasing when Daicos ran for the ball.

I thought Jimmy Tunstill did pretty well.
The mids didn’t turn up.
We seemed to be out of balance as well. Fletch wasn’t bad but was on the receiving end of a mismatch in a couple of marking contests.
Hipwood played with plenty of intent which I liked.

Worried Morris will have a holiday. He shouldn’t but the precedent has (wrongly) been set.

5 day break coming off a pretty decent work load due to heat etc. probably didn’t help.

The umps won the game for the pies early and we let them by losing all focus on winning the game. We were well beaten but how bad the umps were cannot be forgotten. A BS 50 was bad enough, it being 77m is borderline cheating.

Don't give them to much of a hard time. Did anyone honestly think we were going to win tonight? We just travelled 2 weeks in a row and have come from behind in all but 1 game so far this year. 5 day turn around after a game were we were 39 points down in 30+ degree heat. We were never going winning this game. St kilda will likely be a loss for the same reasons. Let's move on.
Yep , tonight we hit the wall with a very loud bang .

I honestly couldn’t find a good player to be honest .

We couldn’t do anything right , Collingwood couldn’t do anything wrong .

Positives: Tunstill looked pretty good
Day showed a bit, took some strong marks
Marshall looks ok
Levi fought it out for the whole game
Negatives: Charlie going backwards at a rapid rate, doesn’t seem to have his head in the game.
Lester starting to struggle, looks a bit slower than last year
The rest of them looked physically tired after a big 6 weeks. Confident that they will turn it around next week.

We were playing with poor skill level but there was still some intensity in the overall game style at least for first 2 quarters. 3 quarter we compromised structure by sending Berry to Daicos, Zorko lost the plot along the way and we took Andrews off at a crucial moment with Fletcher playing on Mihocek leading to 2 goals. It was pretty much downhill after.

Special mention goes to Umpire 11, that muppet was on a strange powertrip calling for momentum killing frees. He sometimes paid a free while standing well away from contest when the nearest one didn't pay anything. That being said we were second to ball and set ourselves up for a free against already.

Morris kicking that behind 15 meters out pretty much symbolizes our night. We had nothing in the tank by Q3 and they just ran us ragged. Midfield got soundly beaten and had no answers - hopefully a one-off.

Crisp post match comments shows how clear their plan was - "teams playing uncontested mark game plan works well with our style, we block off 45 degree corridor kick, force them to kick long, our defense stays connected and work well together to win it back - we then flow off it".. something along these lines.

Mulligan night considering we came from clouds to win even the last one against doggies.

Meh, we were due a really down game especially coming off a 5 day break. 5-1 is a nice opening quarter to the season as we start to get going.

But also, sack fagan appoint Dew.

Thank you for your time.

We didn’t use the corridor at all until the final 15 minutes of the last quarter. I am not sure if that was our plan or Collingwood didn’t allow us to go there. I don’t like losing to them but they looked the better team all night. We definitely lacked energy and maybe it’s the kick in the pants we needed.

Neale, McCluggage and WAshcroft combined for a total of 4 tackles. Will had two.

Couldn't win clearances and couldn't tackle.

Neale was ok but Ashcroft and Clug were quite poor (especially Ashcroft). Would love to see our stats by centre bounce combos but it feels like we don’t do well when Ashcroft and Neale are both in.

Dunkley played hard as usual and was the best of the lot.

Can I nominate Noz as a bright spot, we sit behind the goals, I thought he was excellent as the last line and hard at the contest and somehow won the ball a few times when he had two opponents.
Small sample size but Marshall looked okay too. He is a better kick than his junior videos by the looks and runs nice lines. Hopefully he can become our next winger.

Mcluggage is another that was definitely among our best tonight. Thought he was was okay (albeit in a very poor performance by our mids).

So can someone please explain the goal that went to video when there was a bit of biff in the second quarter.

From our perspective it looked like the ball hit the post and didn't go through.
I'm at the front of the top tier looking right down on the goal. The ball didn't cross the goal line. It just didn't. I'd love to see some video to prove me wrong.

Lions were abysmal tonight. As soon as the biff started I said to my mate this doesn't go in our favour. I felt tonight was going to be a tough game and we got bullied out of it. By Q2 we just started panicking and freezing and the game was done before half time.
