I suspect we also lose the next two and that’s ok. Our players looked so tired. Credit where it’s due, Collingwood were great but next time we meet, we’ll be a much more accurate version of ourselves. Perfect storm of them being great and up for it and us being awful and flat.

As others have mentioned, Charlie is a huge concern. WAshcroft and LAshcroft could possibly do with a break as they are so young and were way off if tonight. That’s to be expected with their ages.

Morris will be gone your think so who are you picking to replace him? Gardiner? Smith? Fort? Gallop?

Going to be an interesting one. From one angle it looks like Morris gives him a bit of a nudge. From the other angle it looks like Morris is reaching to make contact and trying to grab him. Moore was going to get collected in the collision regardless, it was just unfortunate he got a knee in his ear. No concussion so definitely plays in Morris’ favour.

Feel like this game showed how much we miss Starce. Answerth has really grown into the role but can’t do it alone and the back 6 mix felt off with not enough defensively minded players. Perhaps we could have experimented a bit more and given someone like Lashcroft or Tunstill (who was mostly good) a run with/tagger role to help tighten things up defensively.

I thought I'd give it some time and have some thinking medicine before commenting.

Firstly, Collingwood played really well. Daicos was dominant and their team defense was impeccable. We didn't lose, we were beaten, and beaten well.

I thought in the first half, we were hanging on. They just slightly had the edge. We missed 4 maybe 5 set shots at goal. Not only is that a blow to the scoreboard, it's a momentum killer. In such a big game, momentum is vital. It allows you to play your game, have more control. We did show some patches of good football and was definitely capable of improvement, so all was not lost at half time.

The second half blew apart. Out played everywhere. Least said about it the better. Overall an undisciplined, unpolished, uninspiring effort.

Some player notes. I prefer Fletcher on the wing. I think him getting back in support to the backs as a winger out weighs what he can do as a half back. It's something both he and Berry do well, strengthens team defense. Not a good night for him in the backs. Why on earth was he left on Miochek? I get that Andrews was off at the time but Fletcher had no place taking the 2nd tall. Lester should have taken him, Fletcher better suited to Hoskin-Elliot you'd think. We really are missing Starce back there. Be nice if Doedee struck some form n fitness soon, Gardiner would add some starch.

I thought Tunstill did some nice work early. He dug in, disposal was smart. I think he can become better than I thought he would. If that makes sense. Payne was good. Building into a very good season for him if he stays fit. I thought Bailey tried hard, had a crack. I didn't mind seeing the boys get a bit agro, show a bit of fight. Just wish it was channelled better.

Hippy had a crack, got no space, was pretty much limited to competing in a pack. Got the ball to ground most of the time. I think he's getting more confidence in his groin recovery, more confident in his body.

I don't want to get negative, so many players not good enough, well below their best. Changes could be made, many will makes cases for it. I'm sure some justified. But I think we've pretty much got our best available 23/24 players sorted. A Mulligan could be called. Happy to see if it's the kick in the arse we needed to fire up.

Think the only way to tag ND is to completely sacrifice your own game. Don't even think about getting a possession yourself.
Could've given Charlie the task of charging out of forward line and tackle Daicos when opportunity presents in center bounce. It would've taken his mind off goals and put his time into team defense.

That result was on the senior players. Thought all the rookies played OK. Marshall in his limited time looked good.

Collingwood played well. We didn't switch as much, looked for the easy options instead. Purely a poor work rate issue. That can be fixed.

Hopefully we can get some of those 70m penalties lol.

We got Daicosed. Nick was the instigator of most clearances and his creative game around the ground just opened us up. Take him out and kick our goals and we would have been well in it. Some decisions went against us at crucial times. 77 metre 50 for a goal and that McStay non push into the post another goal.

Lazy piss pour big headed effort , flogged by a very good pie team , always chasing tail all night. Midfield and ruck so poor !
Zorko needs a slap round the ears for disrespect , sent such a bad message to our kids

Just proves maybe you have to play 4 quarters to win not 20 minutes ! Credit to pies no credit to umpires. No lion worth a vote

I think it’s clear we’ve not been playing well this season, and it’s amazing we’re 5-1. We were gifted a couple of easy games (WC, Richmond) but still beat Sydney, Geelong and Bulldogs and played good footy in patches.
Looking at the previous 2 premiers they both started slow (which is the price paid for a very short pre-season). The difference for us is we managed to scrape wins, amongst cyclones and extreme heat.

Considering our reported depth I hope we find a way to get some rotation going in the squad throughout the season. Our early wins give us the luxury to stay ahead of the pack so we should be looking to have players get proper recovery when they need it.

It’s definitely a concern. He has always relied heavily on his pace to get out the back and beat opponents back towards goal. He’s also decent enough in the air and when he’s on is great with his pressure.

That said, his front and centre craft isn’t elite like Betts or Milne which might mean the end comes a little more quickly if his pace is declining.

Charlie ends up in the defensive 50 quite a lot. Seems like that mindset has come at the cost of being an offensive show pony.

I thought this may happen - I've watched a few collingwood games and they are very good this year.

I'm not rating anyone as we did not have a good night and they exposed our flaws.

Joe is a big hole to fill and we need to review why we are starting so slowly.

It's not the end of the world but we have a few matches coming up which we will lose if we keep playing like this.

I'm not angry or upset - we haven't lost since august 2024 so this could be a loss we had to have.

I am a bit concern that we can't seem to beat the pies since 2023 though - we have lost 4 straight.

I think the gf could be pies vs hawthorn - if we don't make it.

I reckon will and Levi will take daicos as a personal challenge and use it to drive their performances. Along the lines of yes, we are the better brothers.

This loss is a future investment that will pay off handsomely.

That performance was coming and especially off 5 day break. Collingwood had so much more run in their legs and did well blocking the corridor which we like to use so effectively.

Daicos boys killed us - Nick is elite but he really needs to stop flopping for free kicks.

Umpiring predictably inconsistent. Both sides got free kicks that weren't there but I just can't cop the inconsistent decisions. Bailey penalised for moving off the mark - 75m free kick. Hoskin Elliott takes two steps off the mark and nothing? The McStay free kick in the back is one of the worst decisions I have ever seen. Zorko is umpired differently. Maynard abuses umpire - Hill abuses umpire - no problems.

Thought Tunstill did alright. Got some ball and worked hard. Marshall looked a player when he came on - albeit the steam had gone out of the game but he will be a good player for us you can see it already.

Sam Day is a worry. Awful in the ruck. When is Joey back ?

Also Charlie is a massive worry right now. Basically no impact and not many goals. He is lucky Lohman been injured and McCarthy gone for the year. His kicking for goal is so poor right now - confidence shot. Need a big game to regain the Charlie magic.

Collingwood looked like they used the old fashioned flood and also hard pressure on the ball carrier meant a lot of the time we slowed the game down looking for targets, there was nothing and then we bombed it away and turned it over.

Umpiring wasn't great, 75m penalty is a horrendous mistake, some very frustrating decisions, no where near the difference though.

Day is not up to AFL standard and that is clear to pretty much everyone.

Double travelling and 5 day break caught up to us, well done Collingwood, way too good.
