I'm not sure he even meant to throw it, may have just slipped out of his hand. He is a kid either way, no playstation tonight and move on.

He's a dumb kid who made a mistake

And obviously lives in a house hold where that kind of behaviour is encouraged. Considering the adult next him did not even tell him off

AKA he did not know better, and made a dumb decision in the heat of the moment

It was humid.

Just under 60% humidity, and 24C around the last quarter. A bit warmer and less humid earlier. For both sides.

Your argument holds no water :p

For me it's an unfortunate and sad reality that unless we add in some contested ball bulls, this core won't win us a premiership.

We have zero lineups that can reliably win the contested ball and stoppage.

Not so long ago, this was a strength of ours…

What type of fitness program we ran over the summer? We’ve been outworked & overrun in most 2nd half’s this year.

The selection of Atkins means our list depth must be at an all time low.

Have they executed the 13 year old kid yet? GET ON WITH IT!!

Stupid isn't an excuse to do stupid things. He should be banned from attending for a period of time, jail seems harsh unless it's for processing a fine. If not punished others will do it. Crowd behaviour is pretty poor these days

In that case Ken Hinkley should be banned from coaching for life.

This sinn hate is interesting- he’s been playing much more defensively this year, regularly taking the most dangerous forward (Hayward today).
I actually think he’s been quite good and when he does get the ball he uses it well. Made a number of good tackles and defensive actions today. Persist with him.
Sinn cops it from the supercoach brigade for the same reason Drew does.

Defensive acts just aren't rated by most fans any more.

The big positive is we found a way to win
The 'way we found to win' was Sydney kicking 8 behinds in the last quarter and Hayden McLean dropping an uncontested mark in the goal square with a minute to go. Not exactly sustainable.

It was a strange game. Butters was amazing, JHF and Rioli a level below that. Then a bunch of role players and liabilities.

The other big positive is Lachie Jones has found some consistency after a poor round 1. We might have a player finally.

I dont understand why all our kicks went up the boundary to Georgi, JHF, Sweet and SPP all game. Definitely not a winning gameplan and we were lucky they missed so many shots going the other way. If Blakey kicked one on the run the momentum could have shifted a lot earlier.

Any win in Sydney against Sydney you take.

The big positive is we found a way to win even though so many players were poor. Which is what we couldn’t do against Essendon and St Kilda.

I’ve thought Boak has been pretty good this year but he must still have nightmares about the SCG from his prelim shocker because he was hopeless today. But there were about 7 or 8 other passengers.

Georgiades, Rioli, and SPP battled pretty hard up forward. Defence was pretty good for 3/4 of the match. Butters, JHF and rozee a step back from last week but still pretty good.

But as mentioned above a lot of passengers everywhere else.

It didn't look like we found a way to anything. Not to win, lose, or even hold on. Sydney found ways to blow it.

It’s either a fail by the AFL or a fail by the club. Such a bush league.

Ultimately, it falls on the club. If the AFL did something to stop it, Port couldn’t be silent.

It’s obviously a directive. In the first few weeks, Port weren’t operating as a whole defensive unit, and had those losses, because teams were just beating us with ground ball in the middle of the ground and scoring - usually based on us going offensively central corridor.

Port have a better balance now, when to go through corridor and be attacking and when to play the boundary. Players are generally making the right choice (based on oppo positioning) but also being realistic on whether they will hit targets easily or not in the middle of the ground.

They’ve shut the hawks and swans run down that last two weeks. I think if Port had just gone central corridor more, Sydney would have had even more scoring shots and probably won.

It’s all a defensive strategy. I think it highlights our form and confidence at the moment. There are a few passengers at the moment. Boak was just average this week. Burgoyne needs to pick up defensively- gives oppo too much space. Moraes and Cochrane are still young.

Hopefully we can just keep building momentum and form. Butters is a star.

I don't reckon there's a fitness issue in terms of running out games tbh I reckon it's the way they are playing that's taxing, there's bugger all tempo play going on just a few 2 or 3 minute periods of holding on to posssession in the second half the last two weeks would've made their lives easier. They are go go go all the time.

Georgiades dropped like 6 marks inside F50. I know he kicked 3 goals, but thats a real killer. Gotta be better than that.

Boak was horrendous, Mead a couple good moments but many poor, Moraes is just looking reactive and cooked, Sav and Aliir were good but McLean could've had a 5-6 goal game and Francis nearly did in the last term alone. DBJ and Drew were both poor, especially Drew. Lord was totally out of timing with his contest work and really disappointing.

To win with that much bad going on is quite incredible really. And honestly it doesn't even feel like many actually played great games other than Butters. Rozee was ok, Farrell probably 2nd BOG, Aliir ok I guess. But thats a pretty average performance from a collection of individuals and we still won. Thats a good sign, but also a worry.

I just reckon it is mental.

They get told all week the AFL is tough, probably mid game that Sydney will come back, etc.

They go out there and get a decent lead up and then mentally they just switch a gear and start playing with a level of comfort that they'll be able to cruise home.

Key moments we get softer, we make lazier decisions, etc.

Personally I think its all mental and driven by the culture of acceptance of mediocrity that this coach has driven.

Theres Butters, JHF, Rozee, Wines then there is a crater to the next mid players
This is a worry. Although our best three mids are young, we should be able to identify a developing mid with his scope to join them in the AFL side in the near future. Mead was supposed to be that player but is not coming on to be any more than a 12-16 possession, mostly not goal-kicking spot filler. Drew might not get much of the ball but we can all see what he’s doing and his importance to our midfield. Mead doesn’t have a strong defensive or offensive game, surprisingly waits back too much for others to get the ball and looked awfully lazy yesterday. He had 10 minutes of line breaking, overlap run before HT and then did nothing else constructive in the second half, missing multiple consecutive tackles or worse not bothering to even try to execute them.

Jackson is the only other potential centre square mid but hasn’t dominated at all level in the SANFL to have me think he can be better than Mead. Jury is wavering on Lorenz at the moment. At least he looks polished. We’re trying him out as a wingman which I get because it’s a more pressing need in the short-term but maybe it’s time to give him more centresquare action for the Magpies.

Our best longer term bet would be Bergman (if he stays) or hope that Lai can be that player in the longterm. Moraes probably continues to develop as a wingman while Berry and Cochrane are clearly forwards.

We need to re-invest in young midfielders a bit more and get rid of the waste of ordinary small forwards we currently have.
