I'm behind in the news. Are geelong and gold coast playing in Sydney because Qld is closed to Vic teams?

Teams will be leaving Victoria next week and will heading to hubs in Queensland and New South Wales for Round 6, and then another new hub in Western Australia in Round 7

Some absolutely crazy matches here - never thought I'd see Hawks v Pies at Giants Stadium :)

In an AFL era first, all 18 teams are playing interstate in Round 6.

The closest to this ever happening before was in Round 8, 1952 when all six VFL games were played at interstate and country venues:

Carlton v Hawthorn (Euroa, VIC)
Richmond v Collingwood (SCG)
Fitzroy v Melbourne (North Hobart, TAS)
Footscray v St Kilda (Yallourn, VIC)
South Melbourne v North Melbourne (Albury, NSW)
Geelong v Essendon (Brisbane Exhibition Ground)

I think St Kilda have to spend 14 days outside VIC before they can go there, which is probably why that match is scheduled on a Monday night. They will be heading to QLD very soon I assume.

Big sacrifice by the Saints being prepared to leave before/on Sunday (so 3 days notice) for an indefinite amount of time to allow the R7 Adelaide Oval game to happen...

It looks like their sacrifice has been repaid though with this fixture (both games as the 'away' team against Freo & Adel)

Wait, so Richmond couldn't enter QLD this weekend and the AFL had to change the fixture

But next week St Kilda, Essendon, North, Carlton & Bulldogs CAN enter QLD??
Like in WA, teams from the same state can play each other whilst undergoing the 14 day quarantine.

So you can see that North are playing Richmond up in QLD. Once the 14 days are up (ie outside of Victoria), the clubs are free to move around all the other states and play each other freely without needing the restrictions.

Ok that makes sense.... just....
Makes total sense to me.

Pull the VIC boys out of VIC. Put them in iso amongst themselves for 14 days, if tests come back clear the whole time, the show keeps moving on and the teams are free to play everyone.

But then how does St Kilda play Freo at Metricon next Saturday?

St Kilda played last night (when Rich/WCE) was supposed to have played, so at most will have spent 8-9 days in QLD before playing Freo.

It sounds like the Queensland government has changed their rules again to suit the AFL, rather than look at the pandemic situation in Victoria.

Sounds like they've changed it to just QLD teams can't play VIC teams potentially? As Freo will be flying home straight after the Saints game.
