I'm glad Nyhuis has got a go as I believe he is criminally underrated. He really hasn't had the chance to shine since his bullshit suspension last year.

Cox out makes sense structurally however I'm concerned about Lobb having to go solo all game. How much of the ruck work did Cox do last week? I don't recall.

I imagine Taberner is the only other option to pinch hit?

Tabs was back up ruck last week - at least at all centre bounces. So that will remain the same.

And yes to the BS suspension - you see star players do those all the time and get the benefit of the doubt... a relatively unknown does it to a star and lets make an example of him. IIRC Buddy did something very similar a week later and nothing or very little happened.

He really isn't IMO
Prove me wrong Nyhuis
AT WAFL level he is excellent at shutting his man down has has demonstrated this on many occasions. I don't think anyone doubts this.

At AFL level he has an 86.7% win rate in contested defense 1v1s. Generally speaking he beats his opponent in a 1v1 situation. Go and watch the Port game from last year. He absolutely blanketed Robbie Gray in the first half, didn't give him an inch to move.... before ending his night in dramatic fashion.

He is strong, has great top end speed and good acceleration (Go watch his debut game).

If Blakely was fully fit I would have picked him ahead of Nyhuis but I understand the need to give him a bit of WAFL time to build into it. I don't think Nyhuis has any glaring deficiency in his game. His issue I think is that he doesn't really stand out in any way, he's dependable.

Generally speaking I'm in the camp of selecting players that are slightly more offensively inclined in the backline and relying on the midfield and team defense to cover as a whole. This week though I'd take Nyhuis' speed over moving Cox to the backline.

I like Nyhuis, I think he’s definitely worth a spot, for all the reasons you said and maybe his debut shows he could be a big game player, as his nerves obviously spurred him to an incredible debut!

Take a look at the Bulldogs rucks. It will reassure you. In fact, here's a challenge. After English, who is their second ruck?

Trengrove. Not the worst second ruck. Has done well in the ruck on more than few occasions for Port. Tabs was good in the ruck last week. Lobb/Tabs versus English/Trengrove probably pretty even match-ups.

Yes actually I just visited their board to see if they had made a change. Much to the horror of supporters who think Trengrove is rubbish now. But if he's going up against Taberner that may be ok. They seem to have the weakest ruck division going, even against us playing our 3rd choice ruck.

What an ordinary thing to say about a young player who has just broken into the side.
Why? I didn't say I want him to fail, in fact I said above prove me wrong. I just don't think he'll make it. Seems pretty standard low level commentary to me

English and Lobb will be interesting as I think both have primarily been interested in blocking the hitout to advantage while their mids shark the opposition tap
It will be interesting watching Lobb be the attacking tap ruckman. If his hit outs to advantage are up Fyfe, Mundy and Walters out the centre should just about win the game.

Good time to put Nyhuis back in - lets see what he's got another pre-season under his belt and with decent WAFL form, keeps us well balanced and suits the Bulldogs. Nyhuis has already shown a decent ability to lock down players. Nevertheless, my opinion is that we are weaker with Duman out and Nyhuis in. I think Duman has the goods, just has the feel for the game and basic skills a level up compared to Nyhuis, based on not much of a sample of course, but that's my current opinion on limited info. Lets see how he goes.

Nyhuis in with probably an eye on next week against Adelaide. Betts love playing against Wilson. Plus Ryan/Hughes can play their role without having to worry about defending small pesky forwards. Nyhuis is the perfect fit.
Duman is a bit meh for me. He’s either going to be replaced by Blakely in the coming weeks or Hill if he ever comes back.

Cox did not ruck at all against the Giants. Tabs and a Lobb did okay as a pair albeit the Mumford won the hit outs they were competitive enough to give the kids a shot at winning clearances. I was at the game and only really early on did it look like Mumford got on top for a while...

I'd be very surprised if that happens. We will have a natural turnover at the end of this year with the likes of Sandi, Ballaz and Bennell being released.
The fact that Nyhuis is often an emergency indicates that in the eyes of selectors, he is on the cusp.

I think we don’t make enough specialty selection. Nyhuis is a small forward specialist. He should be picked when the opponents have a small forward who can turn a game.
I like his selection this week. Hope he gets another contract.

Ross must be loving this situation where he can start actually picking a team based on what he wants for his game plan, match ups with opp, etc. rather than the more recent, "so who's not injured and can play that position or close to it...what, they have played only one game at Peel and got 4 possessions? Send them in:rolleyes:"

it must be a nice feeling to have difficult selection meetings. Add Blakely - Hill - Bennell (hoping) - Darcy and Sandi... Boy oh boy wowee!

I responded to a post that sounded like it was describing Nick Smith instead of Nyhuis by saying he isn't that good but I hope he proves me wrong. If that is dissing him, so be it

I responded to one by you saying you thought he'd be cut at the end of the year, not some other post. It was a poor comment and I called you out on it. It is still a poor comment with your irrelevant justification. The guy has just forced an opportunity for himself in a winning side. He plays a position we are a bit dubious in. He is the correct option for a smallish, mobile forward set up like Bulldogs have. He doesn't have to be best 22 to be retained, but this week he is.

Again, explain why is it poor? It's a prediction about what will happen on a footy forum. The whole website is full of them, do you go around calling them all out, or just the ones by people that disagree with your selective memory in other threads?
