It is a danger game. Every game is a danger game. But if Luke is sore, he must be rested. And Alex is an exciting talent, hence the enthusiasm. Essendon aren't strong in the Key Forward department, so I think we'll be ok - we're only missing one player after all.

Yep, and they are out key players through the midfield and half forward. Add that we are at home and all in all its good now and long term to rest macca this week.

Personally, I'd rather see Sherro come in if Pav doesn't quite get up. Essendon's weakness is their midfield; we should exploit it to our full advantage.

To add to that line of reasoning, I thought Mayne looked quite good playing Pav's usual role against Melbourne last weekend. As long as Clarke and Tabs keep Hurley and Hooker accountable, Mayne can inflict some damage as a CHF. He's playing with confidence at the moment, here's hoping Walters and Ballantyne can find a similar boost out of tomorrow's game.

Great chance for him to show what he can do and that he is ready. The most exciting thing for me is that given his mobility and skills, his raw versatility, I think it is possible for Pearce to find a permanent place in our team even if our other talls are locked in. I am not talking about "right now", but this game is a step towards that.

Agreed on all points. I was more concerned (a nice concern too have) that due to our good injury run a player like Pearce would not get any AFL game time. He could be a very important part of our team and may be needed if injuries hit at the end of the year.

I would also not play McPharlin on Edihad next week - still the hardest ground and two games for Pearce will be much more beneficial to the team long term than playing McPharlin on the ground that I would imagine causes the most soft tissue injuries.

Wouldn't mind seeing pearce get a couple of games. As mentioned above he looks pace and versatile. He is the new KPP height also.

To those who have watched him play this year/last year or at training. How would you rate his kicking? Under pressure, creative, distance, penetration, who would you compare his kicking too in our side?

Give Pearce 2 weeks in the 1.. allow his family to come watch in Melbourne

Ibbo will step up even more so and ensure he's that 3rd person up on the 1 on 1's that come his way.

Regardless of the love of my buddy, we need games into these kids - father time doesn't wait

AP is listed as 2kgs heavier and 1cm shorter than his likely opponent Daniher. Not that weight is an accurate measurement of strength, but you see my point. As long as we can keep him matched on Daniher rather than Carlisle, I think he'll be fine.

yeah he certainly appears to have a bit of size about him, I guess it's his body shape that is deceiving.

The last I checked the AFL clubs have a protocol that they pay to get the family to the debut of their son, so I expect his family to be at the game.

At least we have given the family sufficient time for them to come across.

Saints did a shi^^y move by giving Paddy Mccartin's family no time at all as he was a late call up from emergency list an hour before the game. The family were rushing to the game across traffic and I believe they missed the start.

Sh%t effort.

Well done freo, small thing but it makes a difference

I'm in total agreement with Alex Pearce getting a game against a quality team . He will learn so much about what is required from him in the 1sts .
He has been playing quite well for Peel and has been training hard through the pre season so this is just reward for his endeavours .
He is just under 2 meters and is very mobile so he should be up to the tempo of AFL footy .Alex will need to grab the opportunity with both hands .

The McCartins didn't miss much.

99% sure Alex's family will be there tomorrow. It seemed like he knew fairly early that McPharlin wasn't going to play, so plenty of time to arrange flights etc.

Agree 110% keep hurley especially accountable !!! he gives them too much run out of the back.

From club website 200cm and 96kg so bigger and heavier than Luke but has lukes agility and creativity based on clips out there.

If he does grab his opportunity with both hands...interesting times ahead.

Who'll be sub? De pig again? Does A Pearce start on the ground? I would have thought he would have due to team structures?

I have a feeling we did that with one of our young guys too last year? Was it Max Duffy?

Pearce will start. No point him being sub. And he's named in the 18. Our sub tends to come from the bench.

Reckon Daniher is bigger through the arms right now, and stronger too. I definitely worry about Pearce in a 1:1 wrestle, especially given Daniher does have AFL experience.

Pearce should be able to smoke him on the lead and is a great spoiler though.

Wondering if this means the coach is more concerned about the Doggies than the Bombres...?

Club website says 92kg. Where did you find 96kg?
