He doesn't have to be 'good' he just needs to get in and under and compete - he's a terrier plain and simple/

That's what I mean. He stands out as being "good" when he's in and under and really competing. Being a "terrier" as you say, with a relentless attack on the ground ball. I can't really remember thinking he has excelled in that role this year, yet.

No he's been off his best a bit, hard to tell from outside what's the cause - perhaps carrying and injury.

On the topic of Parish and clearances, does anyone else suspect that Adams hasn't had a great recovery since he had Covid?

He seems to be somewhat struggling since he got back.

I'm sure he's not the only one across the league.

I know heaps of people now that have had Covid and some of them are having lasting effects, particularly fatigue, for several weeks afterwards.
Yes, it’s why I’ve avoided criticising him for the last couple of weeks despite him playing well below where he was at in the first couple of games this year.

It's either COVID, whatever is happening with his knee, or just a form slump.

His real go-to always has been and even more so now is to be in and under, because our new running game doesn't necessarily suit him. And right now I can't remember many (any?) games this year where I've thought 'gee Taylor Adams was good today'
You didn’t think he was good in round 1 with 25 disposals and 11 clearances, or round 3 with 30 and 8? Really?

He was playing very well, then got covid and since has played limited minutes with a fair bit outside of the centre square. Can take a while to get energy levels back after any virus. He'll be back to himself before too long.

Good point. Seems a long time ago now!

To be fair the whole team was good in Round 1, I was probably more impressed by those I wasn't expecting to impress me so much; Lipinski, etc.

Maybe it was the 68% DE 😉

Anyway, just saw he's still second behind only Grundy in our side for clearances this year so his importance to us is massive from this week forward.

People underselling Parish because of his metres gained stat need to re-think what they’re reading.

If Nick Daicos picks the ball up on half-back in congestion, fires a no-look handball laterally which hits Crisp on the tit at full pace, he takes a bounce and kicks it 55m, that’s what… 1m for Daicos and 70m for Crisp? But was the possession damaging? Hell yes!

Same is true for first possession midfielders. You free up teammates to be damaging by getting hands on the ball first, and releasing them into space.

Agreed take the personalities and club affiliations out of it and it's pretty cut and dried really.

The football world in general and many here get all moist and sloppy smiled when a player grabs the ball and beats 3 opposition and then roosts it 40 meters into the forward line.

Not a peep out of them for an Adams type who gets hammered to get first use or a Noble who runs both ways all day.

They need to comprehend that the hero they are cheering has spent the best part of 20 seconds getting clear and settling for that big roost into the forward line.

20 seconds is an eternity for a well drilled defensive unit to settle onto their opponents.

That same 20 seconds spent in a chain of 2 handballs results in a mid at half forward with a 15 to 20 meter pass which he can pinpoint.

BIG difference.

Given he was almost single-handedly keeping them in the game and we really got on top when he was benched in the last (thanks McInnes) I wouldn't be surprised if it was Fly who gave him a 5.

Between him, Ginnivan and Howe all getting 8 votes, I reckon it would've been:

Parish - Fly 5, Truck 3
Howe - Fly 3, Truck 5
Ginnivan - 4 each

Or the other way around. I thought both Howe and Parish had ripping games at what they do. Probably depends on whether the coach rates intercept or stoppage as more important.

Pies social media had Howe as the coaching groups mvp, so you could be right.

There been reports in the Media it can take some time for people to get over Covid Properly

Will likely never know but one of them got a 3&5, 1 got a 5&3, the other got a 4&4.

I noticed in the replay his thigh/hamstring was very heavily strapped.
Can't notice it at the ground as they use flesh coloured bandages.
