He did almost nothing right however

Can't move well at all, looks like he has the back of an 80 year old
We all know he's not up to it anymore. The selection committee knows aswell. If he was considered best 22 he would have played in the backline.

Ross- alright Johnno, we know time catches up with us all but the barrels lookin a bit thin at the moment. Once more unto the breach old partner?

MJ- The body's shot and I've lost a second or two but if you need me I'm there. Besides, after 200 games I know that backline better than anyone.

Ross-well here's the thing, we don't really need you in the backline......

Well we did need him in the back line on Sunday. Darling was running riot in the first half, at times finding himself matched up on Duman. Hamling was also struggling.
Having MJ go back in the second half reduced the influence of their tall forwards and freed up Hill to help shore up our ineffectual midfield.
I thought MJ was effective as a forward target in the first quarter. In the second the ball lived in the WC forward line so not even Pav would have got a sniff.
The match committee will deliver their judgement on Thursday.

Carter ain't going top 10 (at this stage anyway) so we will have our first and him to start with.

I'll eat my hat if we don't trade fairly heavily into the 2018 draft, even if it is just a bunch of 30-60 picks. I also expect us to take a few past pick 60 like last year. We have clearly shown we are not afraid to get mature guys (even if they are only 19) so we might see a couple more of them punted on late.

Not sure calling a guy with senior competition runs on the board a punt is accurate these days , especially if you are looking for immediate impact. I would say the best performed draft picks this year have been Tim Kelly , Bailey Banfield and Liam Ryan before he got hurt those sort of guys have been clearly outperforming the young draftee's. I wouldn't be surprised if theses types start getting picked earlier in the draft maybe even top ten

Yeah from 543 I thought Johnson was pretty good when not in the ruck considering he is basically crippled now.
Unfortunately he was playing ruck alot, and got pantsed and made *ahem* a couple of high profile clangers which took the gloss off a touch.

Well mature guys certainly seem more popular these days but for every Banfield you have a Collins and every Kelly you have an Eddy.

Lots of blokes are able to dominate the level below and then not step up. Will be interesting to see if Schloithe gets taken this year.

I don't see anyone considering Schloithe - he's far too vanilla imo. There is a reason Kelly was rated so highly and he wasn't last draft.

Suspect Cody Leggett is the one being watched closely atm.

Hey, welcome back WTG!

Re: Schloithe I think it’s got more to do with him being a campaigner.

So, was there ever a “clarification” from the umpiring department around why McCarthy wasn’t awarded a fifty for being driven into the ground after he beat McGovern one one one? Watching the replay I’m pretty sure watching the replay McGovern himself says to the umpire “well it should be fifty”. Haha such a corrupt sport.

Maybe he had an invite to McGoverns wedding ?.

Benefit of the doubt due to the crowd noise

The stupid thing about that decision is that the crowd noise makes no difference to the fact that the only way the ball ends up in Macarthy's hands is if he marks it. McGovern knew this, everyone at the ground knew this.

........it's your last year and we thought we'd do something a bit special and have you play full forward.
MJ- you mean it?
RL- Truly.

RL- oh yeah, we also need you to give Aaron a chop out from time to time

Not MJs fault at all, however the way he got absolutely owned when playing in the ruck cost us the game IMO.

Geez i want to see Apeness string together 3 weeks of solid footy at Peel so he can come in.

I think someone here said they heard it on the umpires radio?
Yep that is what the guy sitting next to me at the game said.
He had one of those match day radios that pick up the umps mike. The umps evidently said the McGovern didn't hear the whistle because of crowd noise and so got the benefit of the doubt.
