Pros:
Sheppard
Rosa
McGovern didn't look out of place for first game
Shuey

Cons:
Wellingham, the softest most pissweak effort from an eagles in ages.
Our forward structure in general, clear space out let our forwards lead.
Too much letting Blues opponets baulk and run past all game
Season looking like a bust in terms of up the top or rebuilding, dont need another in the middle of nowhere, Richmond style.

Pros - Bennell, Yeo and Sheppard
Neutrals - Shuey, Nicnat and Priddis (When you have 30-something disposals you shouldnt be a neutral FYI)
Cons - Forward line in general, Midfield in general and the Maggots.

I think Sheppard's confidence is building. The more he plays in one position at AFL level the better he gets.
Ditto Bennell.
Shuey backing into the pack was great. Then Rosa put his body on the line for a great mark. Leadership and courage is contagious. Shame it disappeared in the last quarter.
Lack of run has been a concern for some time and isn't getting any better. Teams are killing us simply by moving the ball quickly. Its such an easy gameplan and we have no answer.
Kennedy and Wellinghams form is a concern.
Masten was creative when moved into the midfield.
Thats about it.

I thought we played quite well until those last 8 minutes.

Pros:
McGovern- Outstanding first game. Competed well and didn't look overwhelmed at all.
Sheppard- Showed great dash and was defensively solid.
Yeo- Defensively solid, great overhead, good agression. Showed some great dash and kicked an awesome goal. I want to see him spend a lot more minutes in the midfield.
Bennell quite good again
Rosa- Good game and great courage from Rosa getting that mark on the wing.

Cons:
Who actually thought Selwood would kick that goal? I'm surprised he even managed to hit the post.
Wellingham was shit again.
Priddis.
"Supporters" questioning Simpson's tenure this early on need to seriously get their heads checked.

The precise kicking of Sheppard, Bennell, Gaff and Masten is made to look even better by the poor skills of many others. A number of times we were absolutely burnt coming out of defensive 50 by mis-kicks that were easily spoilt and so allowed Carlton easy entry back into the forward 50. Mackenzie did this at least twice, Selwood as well. Selwood needs to decide if he wants to be a tagger or not. At the moment he is really going nowhere - he has badly stagnated in the past couple of years. Wellingham has played very poorly for two weeks in a row now (albeit against Geelong he was ok). Is he not fit enough to play midfield after his pre-season interruptions? Did he come back to WA for the right reasons? Also, Schofield should be used as trade bait at year's end - is not adding enough to the team (has been overtaken by Brown, and Mcgovern is closing in). Surely Tunbridge offers more than Lycett in the team given that Lycett barely rucked today?

Negatives:
Players:
Wellingham: He's performing well below even what I expected of him when we traded for him. Some would say he needs more midfield minutes but i'd question that. I have confidence he and others like Hutchings can improve though.

Cox: He offers nothing as a forward. He's slow, cumbersome and doesn't move. His seniority attracts a lot of long, high and slow kicks and once the ball hits the deck he offers us nothing. Around the ground he's still solid when it comes to the uncontested stuff but he's a liability when the ball is in dispute. The issue is he's not a structural tall and offers us very little for our (non existent) smalls to work off.

Kennedy: The structure isn't helping him, holding on the ball too long and slow movement to a forward line with too many talls. Talls that aren't moving quick enough to generate space for each other and blocking and clogging up space. Unless we're moving the ball like lightning and keeping it off the deck then it looks dysfunctional.

Scooter: has really gone back to his Pre 2011 disposal in terms of quality. He's missing Kerr's strength at the stoppages and is much better suited to uncontesed possession on the counter punch where he can retain his balance. Needs to be moved out of the role of ball winning midfielder and back to tagging first and offense second.

Sheed: Needs to be given a full game next week and down a level. Not ideal substitute material.

Structure:
Midfield: It's inability to share the ball effectively amongst themselves and generate space is the sole reason for the oppositions rebound off the half back. In the end we're forced to blaze the ball forward in hope to a tall forward line because no overlap or loose man exists. Two reasons for this a lack of pace at the ball drop and a lack of class by hand and foot.

We need strong, clean and willful midfielders who will go get there own ball and do creative things with it. Waterman will hopefully assist in this but there is no quick fix as Waterman won't bring much in the way of leg speed.

Forwards: They're too tall. Talls are there to provide marking power from which structure is given to forward attacks, if you aren't capable of generating separation and getting up and down the ground and taking marks then you aren't a KPP in the modern game. Screw the contested stuff, unless you can generate one on ones around the ground and expose their defenders then don't go long and high for the talls, not unless they are surrounded by competent smalls and you've run out of other options.

Need to play two more small forwards than we currently are. Ideally i'd have LeCras, Cripps and Tunbridge all play in the 21 at the moment. We really need more natural goal sense and scoring potency and our list just doesn't contain those speedy mid/ forward types that allow you to take the opportunities given to you by your midfielders and backmen. Find the right mix of players to take as much pressure of the ball carrier as possible needs to be the aim of our recruiting staff/ match committee.

Backs: Positive all around, smalls and talls. Probably lack another genuine medium/ small who has excellent speed, lateral strength and agility. Which would help in allowing us to release Yeo up the ground in the future.

Positives:
Players:
McGovern: Not cocking up is a win for KPD in their first game and he did well with limited ball.

Bennell: A poor first half backed up by a brilliant second half.

Yeo: Was easily our best game for us. He's quick, he can move laterally, he's strong in the air and on the ground. His kicking was ok today and he won a fair bit of his own ball. Shame he's needed down back.

Sheppard: He's coming on really well. Classy by foot, putting his body on the line and breaking lines.

hard to tell on Tv but we look like we are nor working off the ball and have no defensive structures around centre bounces. Simply our forwards have zero confidence and look to lose any structure they have (decoys etc) as the mids are kicking and hoping.

Pros - bennell, yeo and Shep with Mc Goven a HM. NN is getting fitter and more confident.

Lysett was the only tall taking marks early but looks to have faded later - not sure about him. FF perhaps and allow Kennedy to run and run into confidence. he can not take a contested mark. Schoefield lost his man at critical moments late. cost the game.
Scuey showed great courage but didn't have a big impact as with most of our mids.
Dropped chest marks.
Cox can go at years end.

Gaff works but needs a boost or a block

Pros
Bennell, Yeo, Sheppard and McGovern. Good to see as they are either new names or in Sheppards case not a regular 22 player
Rosa showing good form this year.

Negatives
I can put up with missing the odd goal but we cant even kick basic goals anymore. Hutchings from straight in front is an example.
Wellingham was garbage and has been all year
Need Lecras back to replace one of the talls
Poor umpiring in the last. I was fairly comfortable we had that game won which is rare for me and then all of a sudden they pulled some dubious frees and 50s from no where.

Can anyone tell me what that free was for in the centre when Naitanui was tackling a player?

Bennell is the man, love that bloke show's so much more courage and 'footy smarts' than most blokes.

Gotta drop Gaff and Mitch Brown.
Just thought I'd apologize for that, bit strong; just emotional after the loss. :(

Brown has been really good this year and has to stay in.

Pros:
Came back from a 3-4 deficit twice
Bennell & Sheppard continued that great form
Yeo again showed his incredible pace
The Gov had a decent debut, even got a goal
Thought that Sheed looked better than he did in his first 3 games, excited about him becoming a really good player
Rosa's brave mark

Cons:
How did we freaking concede the last 4 goals (after conceding the first 4)???
Almost destroyed the house, calmed down now
Lycett did nothing almost nothing, but the Gov was subbed off instead
Darling had a much quieter game than usual

Pros- Shep, Bennel were good. Mcgovern looked ok. NN a bit better.

Cons- Cripps neeeds to learn to be a team player.
Selwoods kicking is atrocious, yes worse than Priddis who does hit someone occasionally
Shuey not taking 1 of 3 opportunities to win the game..
Wellingham needs a kick up the arse.
NN still not going for his marks and watching the opposition take them.
Won't even mention the umpires

Pros:

Bennell - silky skills & took the game on after a shaky first 15 minutes
Yeo - Happy with the way he is settling in
JD - For nothing more than putting Daisy on his arse for the second time in three years :D
Composure shown after another slow start

Cons:

ANOTHER slow start
If we had Glass in the back half late in the game we probably would have won...too much dependance on him is a worry once he retires
The delivery of the ball into the forward half is beyond atrocious. It's no wonder JK looks completely devoid of any confidence with the way the ball is being delivered to him
Learning the game plan...old habits die hard!!
Umpires...what a crock of sh*t that was
Pea hearted front runners - I hope Simmo swings the axe
Cox looks old :-(
