I was aware of why he was free but we weren't a player down inside the defensive 50, he wasn't on his man be he was picking someone up while he was covered and knew when to peel off. The worst for me was the kick ins, the zone doesn't work if they kick advantage side of someone going past priddis, they will get the ball and priddis can't accelerate quickly enough to be a zoning threat. That's not too bad though because he can corner people, when the ball goes over the back though, different story.

Hi, it's my first day. Rage has only just subsided from yesterday's loss.

Pros
  • No injuries/suspensions. Always heart in mouth stuff when they cross to an injury update during west coast games. It was great that we were able to use our sub tactically and not in the first quarter.
  • We were in a great position to win and could have if not for posts.
  • Bennell - great game again, providing run from defense. Only hiccup was when he went hard for a ball and it went over his head, allowing his opponent to get it.
  • Sheppard - dat disposal efficiency. Also like that he seems to be going harder at the ball nowadays. Want to highlight one of his efforts in the last quarter where his kick got cut off on the wing but he followed up and got it back.
  • Rosa - solid game, solid disposals. Took a great mark.
  • McGovern - did not look like a debutant, won many contests. Going to be great in the future.
  • Shuey - see stats.
  • Darling - Jack Darling gonna Jack Darling.
  • 12.17 is better than 7.23 I guess.
Cons have been covered pretty well by everyone already.

Shuey is the one mid in our team who stands up even when we are down! 28 possessions and 2 goals is a pretty good return.
Some costly errors in the last though, not chasing Murphy which lead to their winning goal and twice blazing on goal instead of trying to hit up a target in the dying minutes.

Lol, what a load of crap. Down hill skiers don't back into packs in defence without concern for one's welfare Mr Lyon. Shuey definitely would have been sore after that. A cork to the hip would have impacted on his running ability.
Anyone notice a pattern developing? First Naitanui then Shuey. Seems Gary is still hurting by his club taking Watts and Blease over these two.

It's good I reckon. Get some backs against the wall, them vs us mentality happening.

Another small pro from the weekend: 4 boys kicked their first goal for the club- Yeo, Bennell, Sheed & McGovern.

Was especially awesome to see all the boys really get around McLovin after he kicked his first goal for the club :thumbsu:

I just watched the last 2 minutes on the AFL site, first time I've seen it after my dummy spit at the start of the 3rd when Wellingtramp missed darling by 600 metres. I didn't watch the game after that, or even before. Why did Selwood not stop and take a set shot?? Do we think he shat himself and thought "no way amd I taking a shot after the siren" also that kick from Shuey that made Kennedy try and do the miracle soccer was horrible, eith have a shot, or put it in his path so he is a chance to mark it, not half way between the 2:mad: Not even sure why I watched it TBH, made me mad even knowing the result. F**k you West coast, f**K you.

Has McGovern played up forward in WAFL? With Glass coming back could McGovern stay in with the 3rd ruck going out?
Yep has previously played Forward/Ruck for Claremont, it's only this year he's gone down back for East Perth due to the surplus of tall forwards.

the wings is always a positive, even these half cut off, tiny wings are better than anything else we have. Also liking the big, bold no white outline numbers.

Selwood was called for the kick not being 15m off memory and not being a mark. Thats why he played on.

Because Scott Selwood is the worst kick for goal in the AFL, irrespective of "in play" or "set shot" scenarios.

Deadly serious.

Check his conversion rates, they are absolutely horrific.

ah ok, fair enough, watching it on my work computer, with no sound, that was hard to pick up:D Very unlucky to hit the post though, there is no way he could do that if he tried.

Seems to me our players have all read the press about our tall forward line and just bomb it in and hope for the best rather than trying to pin point our passes.
I would have thought the bomb would be the 'no other option' option or rather than the standard means of delivery.

Funny thing is after round 1 Garry was talking west coast up as top 4 material and possible premiership contenders on Access All Areas and Footy Classified (no coincidence that this was right before our game with Melbourne).

After the WCE-Melbourne game, Craig Hutchison asked him about how bad Melbourne were and he seemed to brush it off.

Since the Geelong game Garry has really been focusing on our players (NN in particular). It is warranted I suppose given how poorly we have performed, but at the same time he seems to refuse to talk about how out of form some Melbourne players are.

Gary Lyon s a complete tool, can't believe he was a highly desired coach for a period of time, doesn't seem to know much at all.

As for Selwood, that's the one kick Shuey should definitely have had a ping, 50 out straight in front in space, would have got it imo.

As for the kick coming in to Kennedy, I thought that was Darling and not Shuey! Watched it again and have realised it was Shuey, shocking kick really not to any advantage at all and as for that soccer attempt, that was quite easy, a bad effort.

I dunno, he did the right thing, tried to kick it off the inside of his left and get it curl around, which he did pretty well it just popped up at the wrong point and hit the post. Having sadi that, we shouldn't have needed a tricky soccer goal to win the game.

Some interesting vision. The one that really hurts me in my eyes was Mckenzies brain fade. How he let Henderson run free is beyond me. Why did he not have touch on Henderson? That is defending 101. Especially in a crucial stage of the game such as that.

Very worrying to see vision like that, particularly from our so called number one defender...

Yeah, he normally butchers the ball so badly going for goal from right out in front it misses everything, so I agree he couldn't get that close again if he tried. ;)
