no really good defender 'has touch' on his opponent all the time.

Darren Glass, Fletcher and Scarlett are probably the 3 best defenders in the last 10 years and they just position themselves depending on game flow and opponent they are playing on.

Macca just had a brain fart. Looks like he was trying to switch (which happens a lot in defense) and they didn't switch.

It depends what the situation of the game is. When you're up by a small margin with not much time left, you expect the team to go in lockdown mode and for each defender to pick up his immediate opponent and not give him an inch. It is too risky to try anything else (unless you're the spare man back). It's a simple game plan.

Unforgivable by McKenzie.

I dunno, he did the right thing, tried to kick it off the inside of his left and get it curl around, which he did pretty well it just popped up at the wrong point and hit the post. Having sadi that, we shouldn't have needed a tricky soccer goal to win the game.
From that range I honestly would have trusted a more straight drive kick, the ball was not bobbling around and would have been semi easy to hit cleanly (obviously under defensive pressure as well) but you're right, shouldn't have been in that position

McKenzie in this spot looks like he was in the wrong. But even in a close match 'not giving him an inch' isn't always the best tactic, depending on where the ball is, game flow etc. For the forward it can be easy to create separation through a push off or a screen.

While it looks like McKenzie made a mistake here, I'd back our best defender in his decision making.

That's a great point that is often overlooked; Priddis is an asset when he has the ball and can feed it out, but on the rebound/against quick teams he is a liability with the defensive side of the game. Carlton were way too mobile through the middle for us late. The talls didn't help...
It seems most teams are too mobile for us at the moment.

Gaff??

Battled through a fairly tight tag and still managed 20 odd possessions. Of the midfielders, we look good when he, Masten and Shuey (mostly) are kicking us forward. Who would you bring in for him?
Gaff would have to be the softest bloke in the AFL, heard a comment he's considered the easiest mid to tag out in the comp, maybe true maybe not.

Drop Brown? he is improving game by game...Gaff on the other hand might need a game or 2 in the WAFL , it surprised me when i looked up his stats that he is averaging 25 possessions a game and is on par with his 2012 stats. People have to stop calling for Gaff to play as inside player as that is never going to happen. In 2012 he was the player that got the outside ball and moved it forward with his excellent disposal and he was damaging in that aspect. What he should be doing is learning to play up front for periods and even down back so if he is getting heavily tagged he can have a role in the team.

Gaff has improved so far this year - he's dealing with the tag better than he was last year and seems to be getting in and under packs more often. Dropping him to the WAFL so he can pick up a cheap 40 touches isn't going to help him.

To me dropping Gaff would be asinine. Sure he is frustrating with his attack on the ball, but we are doing him no favours atm. We need to get him into space and the right areas to receive the ball. It's a combination of our poor setups and teams closing his space. Our midfielders aren't working for one another with blocks, shepards etc.

Will add, that whenever he does have space he delivers the ball excellently.
