Review Round 6: Sunday 30/4 vs Casey @ Wonthaggi

Brown is a great barometer for our mids. Got to at least match his influence to get yourself back into the team. The Cmac seem to have done that from what little I’ve seen. And really should be playing better than him.

Stephens and Finn are struggling. It’s still early in the year but I’d really like to be seeing more from both of them.

It was always going to be a hard one to win - Casey have so many players that easily play AFL for a lot of teams, other than Melbourne. A lot of very experienced vets in that side.

Still, a lot of really good signs and definitely competition brewing quite nicely at Box Hill. Plenty of pressure on spots.

I'm sure that's in the back of the mind for the hawks, bur the match was an invite from the local council. Closest club (casey) up against the club with the academy connected to them

Wonthaggi 1 1/2 hour drive from Waverley park. Was the best chance for Gippsland. Gone now and ironically the demons danced on its grave when shut down

That wasn’t a horrible performance but we just kept shooting ourselves in the foot with our skills. Our young kids and the Box Hill players just wilted under the pressure.

Bennetts played his worst game for the year, no impact at all.
Blanck did fairly well at shutting down Brown. Even battle.
Bramble won a decent amount of ball but largely ineffective (did kick a very good goal).
Butler was the best of our smalls. Skills were suspect but he pressured and linked up well.
Denver had an even battle with Tom McDonald, the goals McDonald kicked were all not on him. Want to see more link up play because his skills are good.
Hustwaite played on Jefferson and didn’t do too badly. Some howler kicks though.
Jeka kicked 2 goals but there is no urgency to his game. Has all the tools so it’s frustrating.
Kosi is the reverse Jeka, tries so hard but wasn’t able to win a contest for 3 quarters. Got some reward for effort in the last.
Long had a down game by his standards. Wasn’t horrible but he usually has a larger influence.
BMac wasn’t able to get his usual run and gun going. Looked lively in the last when we attempted a resurgence.
CMac looked really good and accumulated at will. Kicked a ripper goal. His skills were average at times but the entire team had that problem.
Mackenzie was clean and has a fantastic mix of inside/outside. Please teach him how to kick at goal.
Maginness didn’t win much of the ball and butchered it when he did.
Meek was a dominant force in the ruck and his follow up work was great. He took some good contested marks in the first half too. BOG for us.
Morris was given a bath by Melksham then copped an injury.
O’Sullivan attacked the ball hard for no chocolates.
Stephens didn’t win much of the ball and butchered it when he did. Getting O’Rourke vibes.
