only changes are an extended interchange bench, kennelly in, brennan on to bench with mathews and jesse white all named on it, but kennelly has to pass fitness test
nick smith, nick davis, craig bird on it as well
no spida
i hope to hell bird isn't gonna lose his place, and i'd like to think they'll keep faith with smith for a bit longer
would love to see white in
would be really REALLY cranky if mathews comes in for ANY of the younger blokes, and i'd be a bit disappointed if davis did get the chop, as to me that would indicate quite a serious longer-term problem for him
Mathews has been an emergency all year without getting a game. If Roos were going to play it "safe" and bring back an old stalwart, I reckon he'd have done it last week rather than bring Smith in.

I think the only question mark over the team is whether Davis will remain or they'll plump for the extra height - but nil experience - of White.

So has bigfooty decided yet whether Barry Hall is a useless hack who can't kick goals and cries after a game or a god like gun who we can't make it onto the park without?
far closer to the latter, but we're not a one-man team and we need to start making plans for when hall's retired and gone, which is probly only a few years away
i love baz, i can't forgive his stupidity the other night, but i also can't forgive the fckin idiot hall-haters who refuse to acknolwedge just how good he was through 04-05 and most of 06
just totally fcks me off that you can read all kinds of garbage about a bloke like scott fcking hog lucas, who i'm not saying is a bad player, but i just don't think has EVER been a team player (well, not til maybe last season) to the extent hall was and is
hall literally gave away the coleman medal in 05 (i think it was 05) and possibly could've won another one
lucas passes to teammates only at gunpoint
i'm not just picking on lucas, baz has always been a better team player (and better, more consistent player generally) than the likes of anthony rocca, cam mooney, et al

It will be interesting to see how they line up. It looks like they may going some inclusion of height in the forward line, it makes the line up versatile, possibly getting LRT to spend some time up front when not reliving for Jolly at the moment could be handy.

If White were to play where do you think he would be positioned.

makes sense to go a bit taller up fwd, with Pratt out hopefully we can stretch them.
If White plays you would think he'd play up fwd, and run in the ruck as well.
Though you could only see him comin in if Davis is out and Grundy not being fit.
Its a big game being 4-2 is so much better than 3-3.

Final changes for this sunday's game:

IN: Kennelly, White
OUT: Brennan, Smith

I'm surprised Smith was dropped, he deserved a spot more than Davis and Bird.

Rumour has it Jesse Smith won't play either.

Your forward line should have a good time with Pratt, Gibson, Smith, Brown not playing.

This time with the Roos backline woes at the moment it is important we get in there as much as possible and make contests of it. Obviously our forward line has not been functioning as efficiently as it could but if it can step up on Sunday its a chance of getting a score on the board. Which will be needed as the roos are unlikely not to pepper their goal with shots either.

not sure what you base that on looked a bit too raw if u ask me
I thought so too. Rabbits and headlights come to mind.

It was a strange selection decision. We were already going to Geelong, a hostile environment, to face a team that hasn't lost in like 20 games with a lot of young players and key players missing. Why throw another rookie in there? Especially such a lightly built one.

Getting ready to go.

I dont think Davis and Bird deserved to be dropped ahead of Smith but I thought for a debutant against the best he did ok and If Kennelly pulls up too sore to play again today than I think it will be Smith who comes in to fill the void.

I'm tipping us provided Kennelly is ok, the difference he makes is huge.

I agree Smith was a little raw. But this is exactly how Roos built our premiership side. He always bloods kids against the benchmark sides (injury/fixturing notwithstanding). And when he does he prefers to debut them on the road if he can.

LRT, Bevan, Macca, Dempster Barlow: All debuted at the Gabba (the first 4 against reigning Premiers/2004 runners up).
Bird: TD against pre-season favs the Saints
Jack: TD against the Saints 07
Tim Schmidt: Port Adelaide at AAMI
Mal: TD against Carlton
Jesse White (most likely): TD against North.
Phillips (delisted now): West Coast in WA against previous year's runners up

It's a pretty clear pattern. And I fully support the way he brings them in and then gives them confidence.

The only four exceptions I can find are:
Schneider: ANZ vs Carlton
Moore, Vogels(delisted now): Tesltra/ANZ against Essendon in 05
Grundy: SCG, vs Richmond

Looking over that list Nick Smith debuting at the Cattery against Premiers in 2008 doesn't look so strange at all really.

I couldn't recognise Jolly at all. The haircut it bad, and same goes with Tadhg. Is it just me or does he have a bald patch? Enough about the hair, but how quiet is Kennelly? Maybe he still hasn't gotten over the hammy injury?

And overall, the game is an absolute shocker. Goals are all dried up, but kudos to our defence. Love the linking handballs and running from defence by our midfielders and defenders. Shame about the forward line though.
