Review Round 7, 2018: Box Hill Hawks v Northern Blues, 19 May 2018, 2.00pm @ BHCO

The Hawks, chastened by a loss to Casey Demons last time out, return home to face the Northern Blues. The Hawks' loss dropped the Hawks to third on the ladder, equal with Richmond, Collingwood, Williamstown and Port Melbourne on 16 points, and a game clear of Essendon, Casey and the Cats. The Blues sit second bottom on the ladder, with one win from five games so far this season, but the Hawks should not take the Blues lightly if they want to keep their top four position intact for another week.

The Blues copped a hammering at the hands of the Seagulls last weekend, going down by 43 points as the Seagulls more than doubled the Blues' score (12.6.78 to 5.5.35). The Blues' only victory for the season came in round 5, when they beat Frankston by 39 points (14.11.95 to 8.8.56), and of course the Blues suffered a terrible thrashing at the hands of Collingwood in round 1, when the Magpies kicked 31 goals to win by 130 points at Preston City Oval (31.15.201 to 11.5.71).

As usual, 3WBC 94.1 FM will provide live coverage of the seniors, with their broadcast commencing at 1pm. You can stream their coverage via www.3wbc.org.au, or using the TuneIn app on your smart device.

The VFLW Hawks will kick off the day with their match against the Northern Blues at 11.30am. The Hawks currently sit third on the ladder, having won both their matches to start the 2018 season. It will the VFLW Hawks' first home game for the season.

With the AFL team playing away in Brisbane, this weekend shapes up as a good one to get your fix of the mighty brown & gold, so if you're in the neighbourhood, get down and support your team.

Teams to follow.

I’m thinking of heading down for the first time in a long time. Any pointers on where to park?
At the risk of mozzing this game, how about the goal square to the end the Northern Blues are kicking? Should be relatively quiet there and risk free of getting hit from any errant footy getting kicked around. :p

Try the streets behind the ground. Worse case park on the eastern side of middleborough road in a side street up the hill a tad and cross the road and come in the back gate. Always a sneaky chance for a spot in the back car park too.

Team looks very different once you take out Brand, Mira, Poppy, Worpel and Cousins plus one or maybe two emergencies. Lucky we are playing the Blues. Hawks by 43.

You should have no trouble getting a park in Margaret St, if you're nice and early in Pendle St, if you're running late in Simpsons Rd. They are the three streets I used to park in when I drove (am walking distance now).

In my experience, expect a walk of at least 500 meters from your car. You can look close to the ground, but time can be lost.

There is St Francis Church and primary school about 500 meters towards Box Hill on Whithorse Rd. There is an alcove off Whitehorse in front of the Church to park in. If the school car park is open there are spots there.

Overall, it is not easy. Good luck.

p.s. One day, Don Scott turned up in his old 1970's Mercedes right up to the gates of the ground behind the goals, and beeped his horn.... no one responded... he beeped again.... then he got out of his car with his black leather driving gloves... and shouted at the people standing around. He got the gate unlocked and drove his car right next to the oval... it was kinda arrogant... and kinda Don.

Hope TOB has a good game, holds his marks and regains his confidence. Needs to get angry. Should be above this level now. If he can't show some good stuff today or in the next few games then.........
