IMO Kane Cornes was one of the best taggers in the competition because he could nullify opponents and still get a heap of the ball.
I had reason to check out Steele's stats in another thread and Jack Steele currently averages more clearances, double the amount of tackles, and 42% more contested possession than Kane Cornes. Kane averaged more disposals than Jack (+2.65) but Jack is building in that area. I think if he can maintain his consistency, we have the makings of a pretty special player on our hands.
We're those stats over a season or a career?

I looked at career averages for both players, which gets a little muddied because of the shortened games this year
Even with the shortened games though, this year he seems to be tracking above his career averages in quite a few areas.

Clarkson has a lot to answer for here.
And also the AFL and umpiring department for their complete knee-jerk reaction.
Bet we see a complete about - face this round.
Dangerfield completely agreed with Jack Steele's confusion around holding the ball on AFL360 last night.

No he doesn't , he can say whatever he wants. He's a coach, he doesn't affect the way a game is umpired.
Only a moron would change the way the game is played after a comment from a coach after a game.

Yep, and morons did.
They are very reactive to what premiership-winning coaches have to say.
According to far better footy brains than me who have also laid this change at his door..

Disagree with your first point. Clarkson doesn’t have anything to answer for - those who acted on his wishes do.
every coach should be free to offer suggestions, but that doesn’t mean they should be implemented.

Although it is a bit rich for Clarkson to complain about the game style that he helped propagate. The one that won them a number of flags. Now it’s no longer working for him, he takes issue with it?

In fact , with the Hawks list ageing, most people would consider that any changes their coach suggests, would be with improvement of his side to the detriment of others firmly in mind. Tail wagging the dog.
