Review Round 7, 2020 vs Carlton

Watching the replay. The free kick Nichols gives McGovern near the start of the 3rd when Marshall gets kneed in the ribs is outrageous. If this campaigner was a player he'd barely get a game at this level.
was one of the worst calls this season.

mcgovern didn’t even get near the ball, in fact you can see the moment he gives up on trying to mark it

just delivered a flying knee that any MMA fighter would be proud of. I don’t think he meant it, purely a defensive instinct but that’s a free against him all day long. I can’t imagine dixon being allowed to do the same. If dixon could extend the knee into anyone coming back with the flight while not touching the ball the game would get called off after 5mins when everyone’s either dead or too scared to take the ground.

4 blatant ones off the top of my head..

1- Farrell punched in the head. Nothing to see
2- Marshall copping a knee to the ribs in a marking contest. Should have been 50 and a certain goal to Port. Free kick Carlton because of apparent "front on contact" from Marshall.. LOL
3- Jonas getting cleaned up in a hit up the front to the head which should have 50. Free kick Carlton and a shot at goal because apparently Hartlett blocked Casboult which was complete rubbish as there was almost no contact and Hartlett didnt deviate to block
4- Boak getting tackled and dragged to the ground when the ball was no where near him by Cripps which resulted in Walsh's snap goal

After the years of reaming we have copped from the umpires against this team over the years any Carlton flogs who whine about the umpiring bias can lick my sweaty salty ball sack.

Ladhams - Excellent game, team high disposals and used it well, 16 hitouts, 4 Clearances, can defiantly see him working well with Lycett back in the team also!
Burton - 20 Touches, super composed, more important to the team then most realise. Hope his injury isnt bad
Jonas - flew for everything and rarely got beaten
Wines - 20 touches, but fumbly and poor disposal. Cant play with rockliff, flip of a coin who you run with
Boak - another excellent game, more than just touches, runs all day, great pressure and born leader
Mayes - Fantastic debut, easily holds his spot and his game translates better in the afl then it does in the SANFL. that last pass to Grey was perfection
DBJ - Underrated very important cog to our team. needs to stop rushing some kicks but apart from that love the attack on the man / ball
Gray - Quiet again but stood up when needed. not getting as much of it and looks a touch slow. But all class
Butters - Whats not to love, his attack on the ball and his skills are incredible. draft steal
Dixon - Monstered carlton. career form. just needed to kick straight
Houston - Starting to look like hes home in the midfield. We look so much better with some run in there. 8 tackles
Marshall - Brilliant for his size below his knees and great by foot.
Hartlett - solid
Mckenzie - Was ok not one of his better games both he and Clurey really struggling for lack of height
Clurey - Has had a bad patch, but as above battling out of his height devision
SPP - Quiet game, but playing a role. His pressure and run is top notch
Farrell - another 2 goals, best kick in the team by some margin.
Amon - Very quiet, one of his poor games
Duursma - Quiet, first game back, hopefully better for the run
Rozee - Has hit a patch of poor form. Very quiet the last few weeks. maybe needs a rest
Motlop - Quiet, 1 goal and injured. Would have been close to being dropped anyway
Westhoff - 1 touch for nearly 3/4 of the game. ended with 3 and had -16mtres gained. needs to be dropped / rested

My changes
Out Westhoff - Motlop (inj) - Burton (if inj) or Rozee (rest, if burton plays)
In Ebert, Lycett, MG

Unless there has been a rule change that I am unaware of a team mate is allowed to enter that space to gain a possible advantage, but an oppo player can't, and has to take the long route.
Nah you can follow an opponent through the mark and into the protected zone. But if the guy that you're following doesn't cut across the mark, then you can't. The Port player got ran behind, and the Carlton player tried to short cut to avoid getting blocked from the handball pass off.

Clear 50m penalty since the handball receive never occured.

"But back to G.S. Cornes Esq, the latest opinionist strapped to a clickbait counter that determines whether a newspaper columnist will survive in the digital era. The boy who cried wolf has a new rival."

He unleashes a few stinger missiles now he is no longer restrained by the delicate sensibilities of News Ltd. ;)

Am watching the replay now and paused then freeze framed ^. Boak does NOT run thru' the mark. As obvious a 50 as you'll see. Staggering decision from Nichols

Actually not that staggering. :(

Why is dixon our kick down the line and inside 50 , westhoff should be doing that if not what is he actually doing

No wonder dixon is so tired kicking the footy , 1st few rounds he stayed within 70 metres and was kicking great for goal now were making him exhausted again

Wines has the body but not the skills.
Rocky has the skills and no body.
Were stuck in no man's land because atley(back) drew(feet) were meant to be there replacements

Going to be hard to find that perfect replacement though

If only Wines and Rocky could marry and have children. What a combo.

The only piece of umpiring that stood out to me yesterday was when Boak was tackled literally without touching the football at the top of Carlton's 50 and then Sam Walsh picked the ball up and kicked a goal.

Apart from that, I thought the umpiring was fine and significantly better than expected in a game against Carlton.
