Are you suggesting we actually had a win then, to the tune of 5-6 goals? Is that what we’ve become, accepting of “honourable losses”.
No, we're becoming more consistent with the way we're playing, whilst not relying on senior citizens through the midfield.

It’s all about winning and losing in this game is it not? We’ve been losing for 3-4 years already and look like doing so for another 3-4 years, so no I don’t believe we’re improving.

Are you suggesting we actually had a win then, to the tune of 5-6 goals? Is that what we’ve become, accepting of “honourable losses”.

Yes, the weekend was a win. We had a midfield where the players who attended the most centre bounces were two 20 year olds and a 21 year old, and we only lost clearance by 9.

Last year, that is a 100 point loss.

2 weeks ago we had the lowest CP count in history of that stat.

We're not in the business of winning games at the moment, we're just trying trying to build our game out and become competitive for four quarters.

You are not with the program.

The quote was ‘we’re getting better’.
No one was suggesting we had a win; nor was there any mention of an honorable loss - all your words.

There are promising signs.

We are not getting the same big losing margins on average. As with other games, most of our losing margin comes in a minority of the game (in this case, a bit over a quarter).

We have a new coach. We have a new game plan. We are getting games into young players. We are identifying those who are good or average.

We’ve had a hard draw. And the umpires have mostly given us a hard time.

I guess it depends on your outlook. If your mindset is we’re fecked, then we are. And god help us if the players have that outlook.

Besides I’d rather not live with an unnecessarily dark cloud over me.

I wouldn't say we are going backwards. I would say we have hit the moment of rock bottom. We all knew this moment was coming. We knew the senior players were going to be declining and retiring before we had young players ready to shoulder the load. And that that moment would be the moment of rock bottom for us. That moment has pretty much arrived. We traded out Barass, Yeo is always injured, Kelly and Allen have mentally checked out and are contributing nothing. The only over 26 making a significant contribution is McGovern. I don't think things will get any worse than what they are right now. But i don't think that improvement will happen all that rapidly either. We might have another season next year at this moment of rock bottom before things start improving.

Nothing humble about Mitchell or the Hawks.

Bunch of arrogant teenagers the way they carry on and operate.

Mitchell as coach what do we expect?

:(

It saddens me to see so many Hawks and Eagles fans getting so nasty and petty with each other lately. The two clubs have - I thought - always had a pretty good relationship.

Always found the 'west coast legend Sam Mitchell' meme amusing and I am proud that he had a big part in a premiership for a club that gave him a couple more years when Clarko kicked him out. He is a great coach and we have the Eagles and Simmo to thank for helping him get there.

I didnt like seeing play out his wonderful career at another club but I always thought blaming the club he went to was stupid and naive, if anyone was to blame for me, it was Clarkson.

I've heard multiple Eagles players say he played a big part in the success of 2018 so I find it weird that a passionate Eagle fan like yourself would hate him with so much vitriol but to each their own I guess.

I've always liked your club and like the Pies, I respect the way its run to be one of Australia's biggest sporting clubs. You're at rock bottom at the moment but stick it out... At some point it will click and its just so much fun when it does. Last year was one of the best years of watching footy in my life and I've seen 7 flags (that I can remember).

Swinging TB forward this week? Mitch is a total w***er and you could see in Mini’s presser when quizzed on the same he had to bite his lip to not have a go.

Shit stirring, ruthless, kick em when they are down type he is. Whatever, hope you guys swing and miss for the next few years tbh

You really can have a bit both ways when it comes to outlook on what’s happening.

Our games for the most part have been more enjoyable to watch even if you can only see the little things like some semblance of a game plan that the players seems to be sticking to…

Yes it sucks that some of our now perennial non achievers who are still in the side like Cole, Duggan,Cripps are still making the same mistakes and fumbles and selfishness that they have for years the younger guys are actually stepping up and showing the game plan can work when we get blokes with less credits and better skills in the side and more enthusiasm…

We still have hard times but we it won’t get any worse than now… even if we win less when the older guys go at least the younger guys are going to come through with a plan in place it seems

Still don't agree with the negativity.
Had the same amount of clearances, 3 less disposals, 1 extra mark and one contested that Leek didn't have.
So yes 58 hit outs to 26 was the main difference and for ruck that stands out obviously, even if he went at a lower hit out to advantage %.

He played much better in the 2nd half, first half he was absolutely manhandled by Meek.

Thats what has got your knickers in a twist?! Really? Sorry to hear that.

Mitchell does stuff like that all the time, he wants a team that can be flexible and unpredictable.

But I've said enough and its clearly not popular, I didn't mean to hijack your autopsy and it looks like you've made your mind up already anyway

I dont feel the same hate towards your team, so best of luck for the rest of the year and with the rebuild

7 rounds into the year, in a career of playing over 150 games, where he has won a premiership and a club champion as a fullback, Barrass has played forward maybe 3 times in that period - once for Hawthorn over the weekend. Where he just happened to be playing against his ex-team and up by a winning margin, it was just his coach looking for flexibility despite recruiting him specifically as a KPD.

Pride comes before the fall. F*ck Mitchell.

It was a pretty clear attempt to kick us while we're down and anyone pretending otherwise is being completely disingenuous

Seems like TB wasn't exactly all that keen himself because he barely moved in the last qtr. Was hardly desperate to kick one

And from the team thats more than happy to dish it out and celebrate every goal like they've won the flag, but can't cop it at all if anyone dares to give it back (eg Port, Hinkley, Rioli),

Duffield said it best today imo

Your coach is an A grade piece of work.

His role in the 2018 premiership was appreciated yes, but sullied by him bailing a month or so later (and without getting into the rumoured reasons as to why).

He has since used his connection to West Coast to brazenly court contracted players, not illegal yes, but quite bizarre as to how overt it is when all other coaches can at least hold such discussions in private.

The team he coaches are in his image as arrogant, petulant children with zero respect for anyone else. I can only speak for myself, but I look forward to seeing your club’s demise in this year’s finals series (should you make it). A one point semi or prelim (or god forbid) grand final loss will do quite nicely ☺️

Clearly not. Just my view but I don’t believe that if the mentality at the club is similar to what you posted that any significant change will occur in the short to medium term. We lost by 9 goals, no sugarcoating will change that. As it is, if we were to get within 5 goals of any team at the moment that would be an aberration.

I'm glad you're finally getting with the program.

We need to be looking to closing the gap on important metrics: contested possessions, clearances, inside 50's, post-clearance contested possessions and post clearance ground balls - which we are slowly seeing.

Once we do that, we we'll start seeing the results on the scoreboard.

We’ve had two aberrations thus far this season. Hopefully a few more to come!

Nice to know your approach would be to just beat the players over the head with how shit they are every week.
Sugarcoating has its place in the process. Playing footy is physical but also very much mental application. Having a group that thinks they're shit every time they set foot on the park will get you absolutely nowhere and even worse they'll likely just jump ship to a place that doesn't suck to be around.

example: If someone is starting a new painting technique and asks for feedback on it, you don't tell them they suck ass. You explain where they are doing good work and provide constructive critique on the room for improvement.

All anyone is doing here right now is explaining that yes, we're a bit shit, but we are less shit than we have been and are on a path to be less so again tomorrow compared to today.

Or would you rather we go to Harley and say - "hey screw your 2 goals, you gave up 6 frees so git gud scrub"
or go to Hutch and go " 40% DE? you'll never be a mid with ball butchering like that"
what about Hewett - 2 seasons and only 19 games? probably not going to make it if you keep getting injuries.

I heard we're going after Jeremy Cameron for a season and we're gonna trial him at fullback for "flexibility".

I went to coach kids footy on the Sunday from 4 - 5.30pm, in preparation for this Fiday’s 1st game, I’ve lost one game as coach in 6 years, through putting in the extra effort, so I missed the 2nd half.
That was a positive
If Flynn gets injured like he has so many times in his career, we are ****ed.
We need to draft or trade for a ruckman, probably both.
