It happened right in front of me, the chance of injury to an opponent is high - definitely correct outcomeBut I was sure it was barely even a free kick listening to the commentators. :O

Yep. Could easily have kicked 3 or 4 on Saturday and we'd be singing his praises.I think the bigger issue with Charlie is his goal kicking. He's still getting shots on goal that 2 years ago he was nailing consistently.
I can see what you mean about using his smarts and experience more.Yep. Could easily have kicked 3 or 4 on Saturday and we'd be singing his praises.
His speed has dropped a bit, but that could potentially mean he becomes a more complete player rather than just relying on burning off his opponent with pace.
Given how we've previously handled good players down on form and confidence, Charlie will be given every opportunity and plenty of time to get his back.

Without having the stats, perhaps he was kicking most of his goals when he was snapping them in play or kicking them on the run when it was just instinctual and he didn't have time to stop and think about it.I can see what you mean about using his smarts and experience more.
Biggest problem is how can he have got to this point in his career and still not have a planned out kicking routine. If he is nailing those 1-3 shots a game there is no questions.
I remember Leigh Matthews saying last year, at a time when some forum members were calling for Zac Bailey to be dropped, that dropping good players doesn't help them get their confidence back. Our forward line depth is amazing ....
Charlie can definitely play a role, the question is, would 2-3 weeks in the reserves allow him to regain his confidence quicker?

Hipwood

Lohmann

Then Linc, McLachlan, Gallop, etc

I'm not convinced Charlie has a confidence issue.
Last year the chat on Eric was he needs to build his confidence in the reserves. Turns out he needed to heal an injury so he could kick.
On that, I reckon Eric has trained his right leg kick to help ease the pressure on his left. Blancing the leg forces balancess the pelvis, which is part of managing pelvic pain. Silver lining is a better forward.
Charlie is kicking like Eric last year. Maybe he has a injury that wasn't server enough for surgery or seemed to heal over the off season but has flared again under the stress of actual competition.

Charlie’s biggest issue last year was his woeful accuracy. Compared to 2023 he took half a shot less per game.
The reason his goal tally dropped from 59 in 2023 to 44 last year is he couldn’t hit the side of a barn door and had a ridiculous amount of complete misses.
I really don’t see to the naked eye a noticeable difference in pace, and he still offers a lot even if the goals were down.
With Joey playing last year and before, Hippy’s role in the forward line was very different and unrewarding for the everyday supporter to appreciate. As bad as Hippy was, Charlie has taken it to another level. Imagine missing 10 shots on goal in a row.
Just a super game by Darcy Wilmot too. I'm loving seeing him run off half back and get high up the ground these days. I do wonder what the hell is going to happen when Kiddy is back in play though?!?
It's been like this for a couple of years but feel the mental stress/pressure on him seems as big as ever.Charlie is kicking like Charlie last year:
I remember there was talk of Days job was to bring the ball to ground for the smalls.Day is improving every week. Genuine question, has he been outmarked this year? It seems to be he often sticks one hand in the air while holding off his defender. Makes it hard to mark but means a good soft drop for our smalls. I think he’s become quite valuable. Had 3 shots at goal in the third quarter which is a big lift from earlier in the season
Bailey would be well and truly in AA contention right now
1983When is the last time the Fitzroy Lions were 6-1 to start the season?
