I do find it funny how North and St Kilda supporters think having the wood over Melbourne in that period is something special. Most teams in the comp had it over Melbourne in that period because Melbourne were garbage. Nevertheless we do need to pay them back while we can.

Didn’t beat Carlton 2008-13
Didn’t beat Collingwood 2008-14
Didn’t win in Perth from 2005-16
Didn’t beat Geelong from 2007-14 (one victory between 2007-17)
Didn’t beat Hawthorn from 2007-15 (one victory between 2005-17, three victories between R1 2004 to 2018 SF)

Defeated Sydney once between 2007-2018.

So about the only clubs that we didn’t have some sort of completely humiliating H2H record against were Brisbane, Essendon, Richmond and the expansion sides which all still managed to inflict massive beatings on us at one time or another at the MCG anyway.

Yeah Richmond were rubbish for a long time as well 02 - 12 they never made finals in that period which is why we could compete with them.

• 0 wins in Perth from 2005-2016 (17 consecutive losses)
• 0 Wins in Adelaide from 2002-2013 (17 consecutive losses)
• Failed to win two games in a row from rounds 13 and 14, 2011 to rounds 4 and 5, 2016
• Our record in 2012 and 2013 against non-expansion teams was 2 wins 37 losses. We won those two matches by a combined total of 9 points.
• Obviously 0 finals appearances 2007-2017.
• The win against Brisbane in 2021 was the first time in our history we had won a final outside of Victoria.

So were quite a garbage team for a long time, apparently.

Yeah I thought growing up in the 90s was hard going but being a kid in the 2000s from around 07 to 17 man that would be tough. I remember seeing the dees make finals in 94 and then nothing until 98 was long, I suppose 4 years was about a 3rd of my life at the time.

I finished year 12 in 2017, so pretty much my entire school life we never made finals (except for prep/grade1 but I don't remember it). I remember my old man actually apologising for making me a Melbourne supporter when we watched the Bombers do us by 148points.
He was born in 1963 so he had to deal with that 23 year finals drought so he had rough as too.

2021 premiership made it worth it though ❤

93-95 sucked (94 aside) because we probably had the talent but never the consistency. 96-97 we were just injury riddled and never had enough talent on the park. 1998-2006 was pretty good, aside from the odd years. But yeah, missing out 95-97 felt like eons in primary school. 07-17 was miserable as an adult, can’t imagine how s**t it would’ve been going to school in that era…

same here, finished high school in 2007, probably only seriously got into the dees in my mid-late teens too so us being genuinely one of the shittest sides in history shortly after wasn't the best. Still, watched us play and win a few finals when I was a kid, went to both finals wins in 2000 which I'm grateful for!
