Round 7: Changes Vs Adelaide Crows

Tonight proved that we need Darcy in. Lobb got destroyed by English around the ground. Midfield were a little
Off too, plus the dogs Mids are no slouches.
Also Blakely is 100% in our best 15.

In - Darcy Blakely
Out - Switta Brayshaw (rest)
I'd be happy to see Darcy and Blakely in.

No idea who I'd "manage". But, if I absolutely had to make a choice, Nyhuis was last in and Blakely can play back, so i'd feel like a sh*t but he'd get a run at Peel. I though Nyhuis was good, but you can only play 22.

Then - Darcy into the ruck, Lobb For/Ruck which squeezed out Taberner. He's been in good nick, but, again, I can only pick 22.

This is getting difficult... which is rare.

Was a pretty tough game, I’m a bit worried we come out flat and sore against the Crows. Would like to see Blakely in for any youngster that needs a rest or maybe Conca?

Also am concerned about running Lobb into the ground so would consider bringing in Darcy (again, not sure who for).

Selection will be very interesting this week!

I've always viewed Blakely as more of an outside mid than a clearance specialist. Are his clearance/contested numbers actually good or is he just veiwed that way because he is tall?
I'd either play him another game in the wafl or straight swap him for Cerra and give Cerra a couple weeks playing inside mid at peel with the plan to swap him with Brayshaw 2-3 weeks later and give Brayshaw a bit of a rest.

??? He's always really been an inside mid first and foremost. Clearance has always been his strength.

That's where he's played in draft season and for Peel. It's only been Ross' HBF experiment that has really seen him play anywhere else - the mid games he's played for us he has been good in that aspect.

Can't see Conca or Colyer getting dropped. Both have done god things in the team and neither deserve to be dropped. Brayshaw and Cerra have been decent too and need to keep their spots. I dunno just drop Tucker then for Blakely and give him some WAFL time.

wot

I'm watching different games. Tucker is doing exactly what we need. Has improved his accountability, versatility and impact and his disposal skills are critical for us. Definitely want to find a pathway in for Blakely, and think with the Crouch bros and Adelaide's midfield he would be handy, but I don't see the need to rush, and not for Tucker.

I'd have Tucker comfortably ahead of all four of those players. He may not win as much ball as our seasoned mids but he uses it a lot better. 81% kicking efficiency (pretty sure Luke Ryan is the only player higher on our list?). He has almost the same effective kicks (7.8) per game as Fyfe (8.0) and more than Mundy (6.8). Don't be fooled by him being a quiet achiever - he's having a breakout season so far.

It's not that I think Tucker has been bad, he's been good. I'm just struggling to pick who goes out for Blakely, which is a good thing though, you want to have plenty of depth.

For Blakely to come in, IMO it should be like for like so we maintain the balance that is currently working. Therefore, either Conca or Cerra.

Cerra - I'd prefer he stayed in as you can see RBB is trying to get games into Cerra and Brayshaw for next year's push to finals. Plus his best game last year was against the Crows. Plus you don't want to give him any reason to want to leave.

Conca - there's no loss to him missing a game or two in terms of him not gaining experience or chance of leaving. His hardness would be replaced by Blakely with improved disposal. However, not sure RBB drops those in the leadership group without inj or serious form drop?

So in conclusion, Blakely could come in for Colyer

My concern around bring Blakely in is that he gets reinjured. WAFL isn't high intensive and he should be given a bit of time to get his body right and work out any minor soft tissue concerns playing for Peel.

The Crows are pretty hard at it and that relentless intensity at AFL level makes me worry he'd be back on the injury list fairly quickly.

True, but it appears he was ‘ready’ weeks ago. He will be back.

According to The West Coke Australian, Fyfe is getting a few weeks from the tribunal for a regulation hip and shoulder, and Walters and Hamling have season ending injuries.

Hamling can't be that bad he is on a fishing trip with half the team. Same with Walters. If they were injured they would have needed to stay back.
It's only Hamling's feelings that were hurt after Bevowhingo alleged that his defensive efforts were worthy of uncalled frees. Charter fishing will improve those feelings I'm sure

The West is in overdrive. Trying to get all these injuries to come through.
Pearce broke his nose, Fyfe dislocate his finger. Walters was confined to forward work. Haha Braden Quartermaine is in overdrive

Colyer will not be dropped. His speed has been critical to the way we are playing this season.
and here's the problem we are grappling with. You could mount a suitable argument for all our players at the moment as to why Blakely shouldn't replace them. A good problem to have - for once.

Can anybody explain to me how Fyfe's head contact is any worse than Liam Ryan's on Sunday?
Or is Ryan exempt because he came off worse than the Geelong fellow he bumped (... or simply exempt because he's West Coast)?

Just out of interest, what would your argument be against leaving Brayshaw out for Blakely?

we want him (and Cerra) in the 50+ games club by late next season as we push into finals. While things are going well so far, this is still a year in the 'rebuilding phase' as far as RBB and the club are concerned.

Pre season i would have said Blakely > Colyer everyday but he's done nothing wrong except for a few mistakes here or there.

I think he'll stay knowing Ross, but i don't know who to take out

Blakely In - Unlucky lad Out.
One too watch the next few weeks as he is putting in great performances is Jason Carter , a smokey for this week perhaps ??

Dumans little brain snap against GWS was not ideal and you would think even after the challenges its not going to cost him two weeks as a minimum.

I can see us being unchanged and Blakley plays another for Peel until someone inevitable plays themselves out of the team in the next 1-2 weeks.
