i though de boer to murphy would of been pretty obvious as a shut down forward, shows you i know nothing

Mayne will get that job 100% sure of it. He is our new version of the defensive forward on the most dangerous rebounding defender - has been shutting them down but also getting on the scoreboard the other way.

Yep, remember the first time we played StK after RTB came across. He done an absolute number on Sam Fisher.

I think we (BigFooty) get pretty worked up about this. Truth is the last 2 or 3 spots on our list are pretty fungible and the views of BF tragics don't necessarily accord with those of the coaching group atm. Guess we'll have to trust them!

We're 6-0 with amazing %, other than fringe selections/non-selections we don't really have much else to moan about.

I agree, but who do you drop for them? Suban is an obvious name to come up, but he's been ok and even if you do drop him, someone else has to also come out.
Yeh in my ideal side Mzungu & Crozier in for Suban & deboer out. I guess it is one of those luxuries winning sides have that everyone wants in but all the players fight tooth & nail to keep their spot.

Only if loses come that the lesser players get scrutinized.

Nothing much in it, other than I think he's no longer an immediate selection for best 25.

He's good depth, great depth even. I'm sure we'll see him before the end of the year. But I think the club is phasing out certain players and giving new roles to others.

Phasing out I highly doubt that.

They must want Sheridan's wheels against a speedy Western Bulldogs team.

Very disappointed to see that Crozier & Mzungu aren't playing. They are too good not to be playing AFL at highest level.

I've dreamed for years about being in this situation. First time ever for Freo we have too many best 22 players.

It is all good.

I really like what I see from Freemantle and hope you guys can go all the way this season. But you do realise you wont win this weekend against the dogs.

People didn't believe it with Broughton either.

If he's not getting a game now, and is secondary to considerations during the year, how does he make it back into the side next year as a 30 year old?

Maybe but Gu has also been a very durable player - his use by date given that and his endurance is still some time away. I have a theory that Dawson might struggle to break into the team - will probably come in so McPaharlin/Mj can rest in a few weeks time or if injured but otherwise for this year may not be 1st choice anymore Vs Macca/Ibbo/MJ. Next year Dawson will be fighting with Pearce and Silvagni as well even though Macca probably gone by then. Many disagree but I reckon the gameplan has shifted significantly to be much more attacking/rebounding and unless Dawson can adapt to that by running and kicking more out of defense he could struggle.

Gees, thanks for that. We didn't realise that at all. Obviously Ross doesn't either. I'll get him on the phone and tell him not to bother turning up. Save our team for Nth next week. Thanks for the heads up.

This is a little embarrassing mate, but he wasn't actually talking about us. These Freemantle guys however sound like they're in for a long day.

I think they'll be OK, they've got this young kid Naat Fyyfee playing for them. He's supposed to be pretty good.

Agree.

Though i do feel Dawson will be used as a containment type player more than anything else (a bit like Silvagni). Either would've been handy against Sydney where Dawson is big bodied and has a reach able to nullify Tippet or in the case against Geelong, where Stanley, Clark, Hawkins and potentially Blicavs are rotating in the forward lines, a taller player that can hold his ground instead of relying on Spurr to kamikaze back into a pack.

I think the changes will be made to suit and the players will be called up as and when required. Alex Pearce will get a bit of game time now, but come the deep end towards the finals, experience will come in. I don't see Dawson adapting too much the way he plays, the quick play on handball is one thing i would try and eradicate (at least until he is more aware).

This is pretty much my ideal as well, or with Sheridan - and Mzungu playing the Suban role. Either will do.

I'm not sure what RTB sees in De Boer or Suban in terms of long-term planning. Crozier & Sheridan have higher ceilings than either of these two players and even in the current they arguably offer at least as much, or could given minimal experience. Ditto for Mzungu.

But it's not so concerning given we're talking about the edges of the team, so I'm happy enough as is.

I think Suban offers as much as any of them on his day. The problem is he doesn't have enough days.

Suban has been good this year. Everybody has been talking about how good he has been, how many goals he's kicking and his consistency. Fair enough. But there's still going to be a S***storm when Suban has a bad game, and he will, and you can bet that bad game in going to be in a loss, 'cuz as in most loses it's the bottom tier players who take the heat and are often responsible for the worst performances of that game.

Even still I don't think he's been tested for consistency or under pressure this year. The whole team has had a great start and any holes in Suban's game will covered up under the team's aggregate dominance. Even hacks look good surrounded by thoroughbreds when pulling a coach.

Yes I'm suspicious of just what Suban offers to the team and his part in the team management given Crozier, Sheridan et al. need game time.

I'm happy to be proven wrong. Suban is a great guy on a personal level & he espouses all the team ethos perfectly. I hope he succeeds.

Wonderful use of the vernacular here Gatsby.
