If Ross picks a relatively inexperienced player to play an important role in the midfield against the reigning premiers & he performs like "a witches hat"... that's a selection error.

Midway through the second term Ross should have been shuffling the magnets but he spat the dummy at Garcia & dragged him instead. That's poor coaching & a deplorable interpersonal skills.

I don't know what a good coach looks like... I'd have to sit in the box & go to every training session & have have done that over the life of many coaches but from the outside, as a layman he looks like a shit coach. As a character & a human being, I think he's total D!ckwad.
Apparently a bunch of saints supporters are releasing a charity version of this song to raise money for a giant box of tissues for Garcia. Perhaps you can get involved? Apparently Garcia doesn’t know what the fuss is all about so not sure what will happen to the tissues.

That's a hot take. Suggest you listen to majority of players who have been coached by Ross including those at Freo.

If Garcia wasn't responding to the criticism and not playing to our structure then you need to pull him. We had first possession from a stoppage 12-4 in the first quarter but they dominated the clearance. Tells me that Hugo who was playing the forward mid wasn't adhering to structure.

But yeah let's blame Ross.. there's still room for sprays in the game and I think Hugo is someone who'd take it pretty well.
I don't like Trump either but going by your logic I have to believe the 70 million people who voted for him & worship him. Yes, I heard him being praised by present & past players etc

I keep saying it... I don't know if if Ross a good coach or not. Plenty of people say he is & I wasn't blaming him I was questioning Garcia being dragged I just don't like the man as a human being. I think he's really arrogant. Just because he's part of our club doesn't mean I have to like him

I'll say this again too. I want Ross to succeed, I want him to be bring the club forward.

It will be interesting to see what he looks like through the midfield more regularly. The only thing that he doesn't rate equal or ahead of all the absolute superstar players is that he's winning less contested ball due to the role he plays. In every other stats he's equal or ahead of the absolute elite players.
He looks like he could be our daicos. Started at half back, elite skills and ball getting ability, moved into the midfield but retains those silky kicks.

Could count on one hand the number of people who worked with Trump that don’t think he’s an idiot.

Same can’t be said for Ross.

I love Nas, but lets not forget this bloke..

I love Higgo as much as anyone but we didn't draft him and I don't think he's close to Nas in quality. Jack Higgins is a gun small forward, Nas could literally be the best player in the whole AFL in the next 5 years.

Supporters can be reactionary and protectionist and most of the time pretty emotional.
If angry RTB gets more effort better execution then let him off the chain.
RTBv1 was getting better results.

You can't underestimate the psychological conditioning that is put in early in careers too. Guys like Billings and maybe even Steele don't seem to have a killer instinct, possibly from playing in sides with low ambition and were taught that it was okay to coast.

Garcia, Owens and Phillipou types have striving to be better and ambition. I think Garcia will take it well, he trains like he means it and wants to be the best. You hear a lot of players say that Ross Lyon lit a fire under them and got them to be the players that they ended up being. Hopefully he's just pushed him up and set a higher bar for him to jump.

This is where I think (puts on helmet) Grant Thomas really made a difference. We had good coaches before, and maybe not so good. Thomas was a no name. Ask Patrick White. But whatever he did to instill belief, boy did it work. We got serious. I hope this works for Lyon too. The biggest fear i had, was that Lyon had lost his edge and that he had become a more ‘consensus-based’ coach. Maybe, in some respects, that has to happen, and coaches are no longer ‘cult figures’. But I just hope he means business, so to speak.

Why is Trump being brought into an AFL coaching discussion lmao
TDS still rife then.
ps. Simon, there is no such club as Saint Kilda Football Club.

I think Ross knew what he was getting when he agreed to coach us again, but at some stage you need to flick the switch from expectation to delivery. Wins against Geelong and Port Adelaide proved what we can do. No more mulligans.
Agreed. Theres enough talent on that field with enough experience that being competitive is a non negotiable. If we lost by a few goals against the reigning premiers then so be it, you cannot win them all. But we are just getting schooled three weeks in a row and you have to draw the line.

Panic stations lol, better to let the midfield be trounced unchanged for another half an hour yeah?

Interesting to see players and pundits back the move, may have a little more idea than some on here.
Everybody: FFS Ross hasn’t got a Plan B 🙄

Not so much the coach, it's how the club looks to the rest of the sport world. I agree about the four on the bench

As The Punter says , I don’t give a stuff about what anybody outside the club thinks. It’s a teaching moment for a young kid.
Hugo was probably pissed for a while, but he’ll learn and come back stronger no doubt.

Isn’t that what Ross is supposed to be doing - moulding players into high achieving, high standard professionals. Teaching moments come with the territory.

Another loss, another dominant performance from a very very good player:

R7: Lachie Neale
R6: Marcus Bontempelli
R5: Toby Greene
R1: Jordan Dawson

We're either unlucky to be coming up against stars performing well or we're having trouble stopping them, not sure which it is.

Did I call the club by the wrong name? Sorry, that must have seemed ignorant & disrespectful.

I didn't like Garcia being pulled & as I said there was quite possibly a good reason. It seems Garcia was not adhering to instructions, it appeared a bit harst to drag him so early in the game. I feel for Garcia, I think something like that would be demoralising.

I wasn't trying to bring politics or Trump into the discussing I was merely making a comparison.

I'll f**k off now.

It is very frustrating and seems to happen a lot .... though its pretty clear we are currently playing a few players that aren't best 22 or some are carrying injury concerns and aren't fully right.

Going by the last 2 weeks we are bottom 4 ... at least from a mental perspective ..... yet when we are switched on and full of beans we could beat any other team

We are in full paddling mode at the moment and Ross had to do something to snap us out of it .... whether it triggers a response remains to be seen

If Garcia is demoralised cause he received a bit of a pasting on the sideline from the coach then .... he shouldnt be playing the game

No need to f**k off mate - just a bit of banter in the rough and tumble of it all

Looks like he could genuinely be a top 5 player in the league. Must play midfield moving forward for me.

If we can turn NAS and Pou into gun mids, then all of a sudden things don't look so grim.

Lose a weapon off half back, but still have Sincs down there. Hastie has a lot of promise IMO.

Happy for Garcia and Windy to find form in the 2s for now. Garcia has shown plenty for his age. Windy doesn't excite me, hard worker but his compusure under pressure looks poor to me. Hard to teach that.

However, a future midfield rotation of NAS, POU, Wilson, Owens, Garcia and Trav could really be something in 1-2 years time. Trav needs to put on 5kg over the off season and he will be a different player.
