Autopsy Round 7 vs Saints rant thread

🥰 Love BigFooty? Join now for free.

Was hoping Ratts held a press conference similar to Brad Scotts after their clash with the Dogs, scathing of their weal performance........but as usual all i hear is bullshit stats thrown out.

I liked the question asked about us being exposed as soft since the essendon game....

They hunted us??.....of course they did, they saw essendon,Freo and GWS do it.......now the rest will.

At least he was realistic about our loss...some quotes..

Even when we one first possession - we had the ball stripped away from us...they were better at sharking the ball from us.. we had the numerical advantage - and still lost these contests..two players didn't carry out their role regarding their smaller players...I am disappointed in our decisions making going into their 50 meters...they took it u to us and credit to them - they won the contest...

We are too small at he contest - it isnt about heart or unwillingness to contest- we are just too small..Kreuzer and Hampson's efforts are just wasted.

come on with the gibbs haters

so easy to blame one player when the team is bad
seriously, is having an off season. no idea where ratten is playing him
but should be the bartel type
drift forward and stay there when needed, and send someone back. LIKE THORNTON, ffs i have said this many time, we need the guy in instead of bower.

gibbs needs time dudes..

Lol this is his 6th year at the club he should be hitting his peak right about now.

And no one is blaming Gibbs entirely for the loss to the Saints. What the problem is, is that he does not have a desire to win the ball. So many times he stands there and waits for the opponent to get the ball so he can get a cheap tackle and the problem with that is the opposition know this already so they aren't afraid to go in hard when he's around. If he doesn't lay the perfect tackle, then they've dished the ball out to a team mate. Now tell me HOW is that helpful to the team? Allowing the opposition players to be the first to the ball is totally unacceptable.

There was a passage where both he and Hayes were going for the pill, Hayes was further away from the ball than Gibbs yet Hayes was still first to it. Pea hearted efforts like that send a message to your opposition and your team mates. He has been spoon fed since day one that he's been at Carlton and enough is enough. He walked straight into the leadership group as a 17 year old FFS without even playing ONE single game. That sent the wrong message to him along with drafting Austin just to suit him and help him settle in. Now he goes out there and you can see it, he just doesn't give a shit. Hayes goes out there and bleeds for his team every week, this guy does not give a shit as long as he gets through without any bruises he's happy to collect his paycheck.

I swear at times tonight I forgot he was even playing. All the talent in the world yet doesn't have any determination in him. If he had the work ethic and heart of Judd or Carrots or Ellard, he'd be top 5 in the comp no doubt.

Garlett is still wearing those boots I see.....and captain hair cut is also soft as butter, appear the entire main board agrees about the hair as well.

But you know - the loss to Essendon didn't mean much, wasn't significant.....but to those of us who saw in that game, then and there - that ANY TEAM that serves it up to the Blues will beat us because we are soft as butter.

Haven't watched the replay yet, went to the game - haven't heard a word about Eddie Betts from anyone. Three goals in three weeks. He sums our team up to an absolute T. When we are up and about without any challenge for day of plain sailing on the lake he's all fist pump and "check out the TELLEE" - when there's any head wind or a bit of chop.................eddie ???

Reality is we need some big bodied capable footy players up forward - Waite is just too unreliable - end of story. Hammer needs to learn how to USE his body - the comments regarding our specialist coaches are spot on.

Mitchel, injured - we need this guy, not up with Rowe but apparently he'll do.

Either way - the idea that we are soft, front runners and show ponies SHOULD BY NOW, to even the most stubborn, be fairly apparent.

As a Bombers supporter I thought it was hilarious to watch you guys pump yourself up so early in the season. Surely it was too early to tell. You know what though, it goes both ways. It's too early in the year to write off your team as well. If they are good enough, they'll adapt and improve. Premierships aren't handed out in round 7.

The door is over there mate... dont bother coming back for seconds

I've been worried about us for around 4 weeks now and tonight the concerns came to fruition.

Gibbs- Thought he finally came good, in a toughness sense, in the second half of last year...i was wrong. Lenny Hayes showed him how to do it.
Duigs- Just looks way off the pace at times. Better second half.
Jordan- Same as Duigs
Ed- Played well in patches, especially third quarter. Not enough though.
Bower- Good early but poor by foot into forward 50 on too many occasions. We needed precision tonight.
Joseph- I'm from southern Tassie so it hurts to say but that was a horror show. Really felt for him but he'll have to play cracking footy in the twos to get back in on that showing. Along with a couple other poor games.

And last but in no way least...did Jarrad Waite play tonight?? Completely anonymous and out of sync with his jumping for grabs, bizarre!!! The week off may not have helped with him. I believe he's a player who thrives off continuity but could be wrong.

That's a quarter of the side, way too many players to carry and i may have missed a couple. Laids, Carrots and Yaz can't come back quick enough. Really disappointing stuff, just not hard enough tonight. Getting a feeling that Pies game may have been a bad thing in the short term, hope we fix it soon:o

Myth that Gibbs is having an off season. Aside from Murphy's standout game against the Lions, Gibbs hasn't been any worse than Marc this year. Difference is Murphy has credits, so he is protected from criticism. THEY just have to attack a good player after the loss.

Simpson's poor kicking for goal is a bigger concern than Gibbs.

Garlett and Waite could have won us the game if they had stepped up tonight.

Wow this thread is embarassing!

Never seen such a ridiculous overreaction after a loss.

Sure it was a disappointing loss but we played shocking and lost by 24 points. If we can win the next 3 and then maybe knock off Geelong we could be 9-2 and tonight's game will be a distant memory.

We need to work on:
- our setup at stoppages to improve clearances
- entry into our forward 50
- decision making and choosing the right option
- our brand of dumb football we are playing eg going to ground, miracle shots from pocket when other options are on, turnovers

We need to bounce back strong next week to silence the doubters.

Changes to be:
IN: McLean, Thornton, Yarran
OUT: Curnow, Russel , Joseph

Great coaching by Watters tonight as he really exploited our lack of quality small defensive types with Yarran out by playing all 3 of Milne, Milera and Saad. This is a real weakness of our defense!

We needed another tall target up forward to really exploit there lack of tall defenders with Fisher out and to help give a contest.

We have too many players who want the ball on the outside and wont use their body in any physical manner to win the ball themselves or help others win it.

The blokes that we have that can win the contested ball either have poor skills and/or panic with it once they have it. I was so sick of seeing guys like Curnow and Robinson be released into space from congestion with a chance to set something up only to handball the ball backwards to guys either under pressure or not in a better position to attack and just cost us any momentum or advantage that we may of had.

Really disappointed in the lack of composure with decision making and skills from most of our defenders tonight, Duigan, Russell, Bower, Joseph and Tuohy were all terrible and really hurt us.

We have too many across the team who just simply cant use the ball under intense pressure and in congestion.

Thought Waite and Garlett were very ordinary also.

Tonight just proved we are lacking depth, toughness, aggression, skill, poise and are far from a premiership contender until we can improve our list with bigger bodies that can actually address those concerns mentioned.

Seriously, I can't for the life of work out how we always let this shit failure of a football club bully us like they have over the last couple years. They get into our faces at the start of the game, we get sucked in and succumb to it. I just wonder when we will stand up to that shit. This is the rubbish we will have to overcome if we are going to be a "true" premiership contender, which we clearly are still a long way off being.

I wonder when we will find some seasoned, hardened, experienced footballers who are big/strong enough to face up to that shit. Rats said in the press conference we were given a big wake up call. How many more wake up calls do we need to show some consistency and play a ruthless brand of football. Now we have forced them in a false sense of optimism, thinking they are still a premiership threat after beating us. Clearly, we just aren't as good as we have been talked up to be.

Kade Simpson has twice the influence on a game that Gibbs does, with half the talent.

Gibbs needs to put his head over the ball.
Not totally disagreeing with what your saying here Mal but Simpson has been notable to me this year as one who waits on the outside for others to get him the ball so he can spread and run. So he isn't much better then Gibbs when it comes to putting his head over it.

Tonight proved that if he is not allowed to sit out the back of a pack on his own and is closely watched then he has absolutely no impact on the game.

It is fair to say he doesn't go in hard - the tag line all over Big Footy for Gibbs is Squibbs, and like it or hate it there is a reason its there - the guy has talent to burn, there is something clearly deficient, you'd be hard pressed to deny there is nothing wrong with Gibbs, when everyone in the comp is talking about it.

I think Eddie Betts 3 goals in three games is more of a concern - Junk Time is back baby.

As poor as we were tonight, the performance of some "supporters" post match on here has been much worse.
Sugar coater...
1. Kreuzer - Ruckman who doesn't take marks and doesn't win a lot of taps but tries hard to make up for it but end of the day he's not doing a big man job all that well. Again, desperate for a ruckman at the time.

Cotchin went 2, unquestionably the player of that draft, the sort we lack, already had plenty of ruckmen coming through...
Dangerfield, Rioli, Taylor, Selwood are handy too.
How did we draft Browne ahead of Mayne!

2007
1. Gibbs - A good half back flanker, we were desperate at the time for this type, can't play on the ball the save himself, hates it physical. More of a lower first rounder/high second round pick player in terms of quality. Stick's mate's son.

19. Grigg - Playing good footy in the midfield, for another club, no denyin it this was a bad loss.

2008
6. Yarran - Good player.
too early to tell with the others.

2009
12. Lucas - light weight one dimensional running player who can kick a goal but is soft at the contest. Fit's in with our recruiter's obsession with slightly built running players who are midfield sizrd but not really onballers and will always lack size and strength.

If we had drafted Selwood instead of Gibbs, Cotchin instead of Kreuzer and kept Jacobs, Swallow instead of Bower, Mayne instead of Browne and Fyfe instead of Mclean we would be a far better side than what we are..
You just posted the dumbest thing I've ever read on this board. And that's saying something. You couldn't even get the drafts right. Foolish to pick names out of a hat like a hero using hindsight. And you forgot Robinson. Anyone who questions Kreuzer and complains about hardness should ask Admin to red card them. Idiotic comments.

Maybe a Gibbs for Watts trade. Wouldn't really be an upgrade. Both all the skills in the world with pea hearts.
Gibbs- trade him to gws for a #1 pick, soft players don't win u flags and this guy is weak as water
Hampson- his girlfriend has better ball skills
Russell- if we could have traded him last year we would have
Curnow- see Brock hacklean
Trade Gibbs and Warnock for some upgrades in the midfield and forward line.
Pathetic comments that would be carded if they were made by opposition supporters.

More ashamed of the post-match performances on here than last night's game.

I get a feeling you are one of those people that if to be given any authority you would constantly be on power trips.

Judging this from you're name & most of you're posts being condescending/arrogant/self righteous.

People should be able to vent anger in a thread named "rant thread" some of it may not sit well with you but it's there view of the club/players & they have every right to express it.

Let the admins do the policing & please lay off the "you are stupid because you think this" approach. Because let's be honest not all of your posts are perfect either.

some of the comments on here are getting a bit intense. We had a loss big deal every team has lost this year.

Why we lost
Joseph in the team-enough said

Ellard the sub-shocking decision from whoever decides who's sub. Much better value starting.

Murphy getting tagged-Not sure why they decided to tag Murphy over Judd but it worked. He had next to no impact on the game. What i didnt understand was why no one tried to block Jones, or why they kept putting him forward, He is the 2nd best midfielder in the team and we put him forward just because he couldnt handle a tag? that failed.

Under performing Forwards-such as Garlett, Betts, Waite and Hampson.

No Midfielders kicking goals

Rattens lack of a plan B

If we thought that was a tough contested game, wait and see what happens to us this week :club: down hill skiing is still a massive concern at Carlton, if you can't acknowledge that then take your blindfold off ladies and gents.

.

Good analysis.

Does that mean we need more variety in our team placements? With who was on the park last night for example could that mean you are willing to swap players around to fill a weakness.

1) Small goalsneaks - they had 3 - do you put Garlett on one of them?
I love Jeffy Garlett...this guy is a great player, but last night wasn't his day. Can we get him into the game by changing his position...or should he be settled in attack?

2) Robinson -good point. Had the chance to break the lines a few times...but didn't and moved backwards. I thought Curnow was ok in patches. He has to be worth perservering with as it was an improvement on previous games this year.

3) who was the person who kicked across field to a contest in the 2nd quarter...in the midfield..popped the ball up, opened up their forward line once they spoiled the mark. Who ever did that...needs their head read..as that goal came at a vital point for them.

4) more marking spoils...that is what i would like to see..not zoning off..conceding they will get the mark and jumping around 5 metres off the mark. Really contest every ball they want to win.

Is our team structure too predictable? Gibbs lose man in defence...Waite our only tall forward option for most of the game etc..can we cover weaknesses in our team if player's positions are so settled?

I think Eddie Betts 3 goals in three games is more of a concern - Junk Time is back baby.

Betts was our only forward who busted a gut last night. He kicked 2 goals in the first half, had 2 goal assists & laid 6 tackles. He was the only forward who could hold his head up high.

Unfortunately Betts was the victim of poor delivery into our forward line & St Kilda's extra player/s playing inside our 50.

You can criticise our other forwards last night, but you have got it wrong if you think Betts didn't do everything he could to keep us in the game.

Worst loss for awhile, no plan b, basic skill errors, collapse under pressure, another sub stuff up, when isaw he was sub, imwas surprised, he is an inside mid...

We seem to be easy to coach against, we are currently 18th for clearances, and have been for weeks, you'd think something would be done about it, looked flat since the pies game, we are mentally soft or cannot handle expectation.

We are going to lose games along the way, but this is really hard to accept
Signs were there last week
