Autopsy Round 7 vs Saints rant thread

1%'s are the key. We don't tackle/shepherd/block etc any where near as much as the top sides. We need to install that culture of doing the little things in the boys. Until that happens we will be a flashy team that borders somewhere between a prelim and missing out on finals.

Also think tonight, like the Essendon game, we were totally out coached. It was obvious our forward structure was not working in the second quarter. But no change was forthcoming until the last quarter. We really need to look at the tactical nous of our coaching staff and consider hiring a great tactical mind.

We are at least two quality mids short in the rotations. Scotland is no longer a pure mid and stop gaps like Betts/Walker/Robbo etc don't cut it. We need one hard bodied mid that can do the little things and at least one more flashy mid.

Another problem is we have too many players that don't run both ways - again most of our problems are between the ears (save for some coaching tactics).

Also Barker was a disgraceful pickup - should be sacked immediately.

We will beat any team...any team ...if Ratten allows them to play one on one.

No more lockdowns, no more tagging....just let them play. Beat your man and that's it

It is old style footy theory, but there are not many players in our team who would loose 1 on 1's consistently

Joey has to go. Ellard showed him how it works

Laidler and Yarran back free Scotland to the wing. Different team then. We had no run through the middle.

Armfield needs to be released too.

half our team is coached to play lock down. I hate it as it doesn't work on mass. One maybe (Carazzo on Pendles for example), but not 5 or 6

Your kidding arent you we couldn't win a one on one contest if our life depended on it ...we need to tag opposition best players with our team which has some very ordinary players ....we need to get bigger and stronger then we might be able to go one on one ...sorry but we aren't that good..

Its really selfish showy bullshit that hurts us. Eddie, Garlett and Walker all too keen on mark and goal of the year, rather than actually winning matches through simple footy.

Simply not hard enough.

Beaten by Farren Ray, Saad, Milne, Stanley,
,
and Milera. Epic lolz at Carlton.

you have to be joking, i know you guys hate Milne but he is a quality AA small forward. And Rhys Stanley, followed by a lot of daylight.... Hampson. Have a close look at his ruckwork in the 3rd qtr when Stanley flicked the ball over the back to Milne for a goal.

Ill tell you what i did notice. Hampson had more hitouts than the entire St Kilda side. But then...so did Kreuzer. Its all for nought if no one wants the damn ball.

army and ellard say
yeah we did

ugly, soft football tonight.

the only possitive, if there is one, is that we are 5 and 2 and havent played great footy since we beat the Pies.

if we can harden up and come good at the end of the year thats all that matters.

p.s the callers on sen calling for Rattens heads are dead set FLOGS

Kreuzer did the exact same thing, twice, for Eddie's goals.

I thought we had a tackling coach? Is he on leave? Not only are we not sticking tackles we dont much like it when they tackle us hard. We have to get used to teams being in our face. Not just because we invited it with our soft game v Essendon, but we would have been found out sooner or later anyway, and there is no way you get to week 3 of finals if you cant handle it hard.

And man dont we love being laughing stocks. Puff our chests out early and beat up on a few of the lower teams, but havent we put the cue away the last month?

And I cant wait for this friggin Etihad deal to expire. Swanny, if you dont do anything else, they should give you a new contract if you can get us out of playing there. Either that or our coaches figure out what it is about the place and get it sorted.

It was the Saints home game. We would have been playing there regardless of the deal. Don't let a piece of turf with white lines and goal posts be any excuse for the inept performance tonight.

The thing we seem to be missing at the moment is DESIRE. We have lost the love of the hard ball, the love of gut running when we don't have the ball, and the ability to tackle our opponents (what happened to our super grappling tackling coach??).

What's most disappointing is that we are quickly losing the respect of the football world and are instilling confidence in every team we are yet to face..........now to go and punch the wall

Just a gutless heartless game with quite a few players who have showed they aren't up to it.

We seem very one dimensional. It's either plan A or nothing.

Shaping up as a big game next week, they MUST show more or we will lose again.

Thank **** someone else said it. I asked this after the North NAB game, more as an observation. We seem to just persist with the same when things aren't rolling our way.

And please, why are we showing up not ready to play? We've shown real, early intent only twice, and one of those times was against Brisbane.

I am embarrassed at the ease with which St Kilda controlled the middle of the ground.

ehh walker can play in the midfield, ratten just doesn't... his kicking can be abit ifie... grigg wouldn't do crap to help carlton tonight ..

30 disposals, 2 goals might have helped.

Football is now just a midfield game.
20-30 players at stoppages.
We dont have enough midfielders on flanks, pockets.

I'm melting down.

Essendon and Adelaide are past us. REALLY?!?!?!?

Yeah we're a joke.

Missing Carrazzo more than anything. We were one short hard it mid tonight. Very disappointing, no one stepped up. Joseph is out of his league, really got shown up tonight. Very frustrating evening.

We need Carrots back but sadly that's not a option atm.

Laidler was badly missed tonight, his poise off the back line is irreplaceable as well as Yarran. If anything it showed our lack of depth.

But they had Fisher and their ruckman (the name eludes me) out so no excuses.

I said this on the preview thread that this was a danger game and we needed to lift our intensity to win and sadly it panned out that way :thumbsd:

Soft, lack of desire and intensity, lazy efforts.

I'm guessing we won hitouts yet lost clearances again.

This team has gone backwards. Gibbs was pathetic, I don't care how good he can use the ball what the hell is the point when he doesn't get it anywhere near enough. His lack of gut running and desire to win the pill is totally unacceptable! Time to get a spell in the two's. Trust me we aren't going to win next week anyway, so we're probably better off lighing a fire under his arse to get him going. That effort against Hayes makes me sick, he was closer to the ball initially but by the time the contest was over it was Hayes who had his head over the ball whilst Gibbs took a back step. WEAK ****.

David Ellard must not be dropped ever again. Here's why, he shows heart and determination which is more than what most of the players in this side show. He was the only player that could hold his head up high after tonight's game. If it wasn't for him we would've lost by 8 goals.

Joseph & Russell are gone. No way these two should be in our side. They don't play for the jumper, they don't even play for themselves. Joseph in particular was horrendous. He cost us so much momentum and gave away about 4-5 easy goals.

Duigan is doing a Teague, just as I suspected a couple of weeks ago.

Resting players didn't work. Judd wasn't great even though he didn't cop the hard tag, Waite was very poor and Curnow was as well. This is what happens when not only the players, but the entire coaching staff get ahead of themselves. What have we achieved to say we have the right to be resting our best players? The Cats are a mature unit and have been for the past 5 years, this year they're having a little slump, but that should be expected after being on top for so long. Last year that Geelong group had done the hard yards, they won flags and were full of players around the 30 years of age mark. Stupid move, it has played with our team cohesion we made 5 changes (we had to change 3), then we made what another 3 changes and then another 3 changes again this week. How can we be a premiership unit when we're making all these changes?

If we draft some more weak outside players then no chance of winning a flag within the next couple years. We're done with them, we got Lucas another outside player, we got Buckley again outside player, Bootsma doesn't look like the kind of player to be throwing his weight around, we need some tough as nails inside mids. At least 2, maybe even 3. Spend our top pick on one and go after the best free agent/out of favour inside mid available. That does not include Moloney, no players from shit teams with shit culture. Becuase McLean & Curnow, these guys aren't going to cut it.
