Game Day Round 7: West Coast Vs Port Adelaide

Love seeing our young guys actually have an influence, doing the hard stuff and contribute like they all have been. That stems from Simmo having the confidence in them to do their job (and not recruiting vanilla), never would have thought we would see Venables start at the centre bounce in his first game of AFL footy against one of the better midfields in the AFL in a round 1 game. And then seeing Rioli starting in the centre a few times this season and Petch out on the wing is great.

Anyone still want Simmo fired? There were quite a few after round 1 but they seem to have gone missing, should we all chip in and get some milk cartons and fliers made up for these posters? Also the players we’ve brought into the side this year were all drafted when Simmo joined the recruitment team and Rawlings became the LM.
I remember in 2015 when Duggan burst on to the scene, he played on ball a lot and started in the centre and he made an impact. He even played Duggan on a hot Leigh Montagna and Duggo shut him down and had a huge game. Then after that Duggan was shunted to HFF in 2016 and barely got minutes in the middle.

Redden, Yeo, Hutchings, Lycett and Naitanui combined for 35 clearances and 65 contested possessions between them.

Five players who coming into this season had strong reservations over whether they could take the next step or return with the same impact prior to long-term injury.

The growth of this team from last year is amazing to watch.

I don't think it can be be understated.

From the players involved to the way we rotate to ensure maximum impact during the second and fourth quarters - this is his midfield.

Even small things like the shrug, backstep, come back inside that was so much a trait of his play are having an impact on this team - Gaff for example has been able to play more inside this season by mastering this move.

The most encouraging thing for me is the continual improvement of the midfield as a unit.

Take clearances for example:

We are starting to translate our dominance in the ruck into more clearances and thus giving our forwards greater opportunities to score.

Taking frustration out on their team performance by blaming the umps and perceived free kick bias is pathetic. Very lame!

Free kick numbers themselves shouldn't be a issue. It is where/when they occur. Some free kicks mean nothing to the game but still count to the tally. E.g. the free kick, advantage does nothing. And the free kick yesterday to Waterman when Kennedy already marked it didn't make any effect in the game.

Found this gem on the port board, the level of denial and mental gymnastics is incredible.

"The tell is in the number of 50s West Coast gave away. They don’t fear the adjudication meaning they’re not second guessing themselves every time there’s a 50/50. You can see it on the Port players faces - the umpiring is screwing us over and the players are understandably hesitant which kills our contested possession numbers. And there’s silence from our coaches and the club so we’ll continue to get screwed over by the umpiring fraternity.

Ho hum membership is looking good, attendance is ok, Port playing well enough to at least make an elimination final. That’ll do Pig, that’ll do."

Somehow the umpires fault that we absolutely murdered them in contested possession, and the proof of this is because our defense can hold up during i50s :drunk:

Port's players & style is obviously good when they play poor opposition & rubbish when put under pressure by ok to good teams. Pretty simple really.

So had a bit of a buzz on at the start of yesterday's game, can anyone that was sober confirm that Oscar Allen said "absolutely" at the start of every answer to the questions in his pre-game interview.
