It’s a development year folks.

Whatever way you want to paint it, it is unrealistic to expect us to be competitive against the top teams with that injury list. WCE are a top team even if not in the best form at the moment.

Positive is we look like we are much better coached and competitive in games based on this. We are also getting a lot of games into players who might not have gotten a look in with a fully fit team (Battle, Wilkie et al).

Negative is that we lack the man power to realistically mount a challenge (injuries + well documented lack of class in the middle). We also shot ourselves in the foot AGAIN with our finishing (which ended any chance we had) and some really stupid hand pass decisions at times turning it over.

The easier fixture in the back half of the year will hopefully allow us to get some more wins and keep morale high.

Don’t think we play finals, we just have to find a way to add some class to the midfield in the off season and with the players returning we should continue to improve.
Umpiring performance was inexplicable.

Could’ve been a lot worse. But it could’ve been better for us too. Can’t expect to show so many lapses in concentration and win games against top sides. Disposal needs a lot of work still.

Considering how badly we played and putrid umpiring at crucial times, score is not too bad. There’s some hope.

Good return for Lucky, with 26 disposals, 6 clearances, from 70% TOG.

Umpiring was shocking but we shot ourselves in the foot with our inaccuracy and entries inside 50.

JB, Dunstan and Bruce all had a real crack. Can’t help but feel we should’ve won that one.

s**t umpiring. Murdered the ball and plenty of chances for goals. So pretty stock standard. Lack of effort at times really disappointing. Especially in the midfield. Need to bring in some fresh blood.

Parker due a rest. Young and Hind must come in! Few of boys are coasting at the moment.

That lapse in the end of the third killed us. Did well to keep it tight but could’ve won that game. With a bit of polish and some injured players returning we are definitely a finals contender.

Steele Ross Membrey Gresham Parker and Long just way too quiet.
Scoreboard is flattering to both teams really.
Was happy to see them try lower the eyes but the frustrating thing was our mids and forwards weren't on the same page.
Still 2 A grade mids short.

Long out don't know who else. Just frustrated.

The last half of the third was the only truly bad football we played tonight but it also allowed them 4 unanswered goals that just put the game out of our reach.

We just absolutely cannot take our chances when they come. Takes miracles like Savage's running banana or Billing's final goal to bring us back into play and its just not enough.

That said, the defence held up pretty damn well tonight all things considering.

I do really rate Marshal but he is still lacking a real competitiveness in the centre that is hurting our clearances.

Fought it OK, but their goal kicking let us off the hook first half of the last quarter.

Thought Battle and Billings were good. Dunstan got plenty but his disposal lets him down.

Reading the game day thread you guys are a tough audience. How quickly we all forget how putrid we were last year. We were in the match until the back end of the third quarter then didnt give up even though we were out of the game.

Our team is riddled with injuries and plenty of second string players are stepping up. At this rate we will be pretty competitive second half of season which will make for a good season considering where we started the season.

Yeah, doubt we play finals this year. Hope we keep Ratten and move quickly to make sure he stays put. Probably 5 or 6 a graders off being a good side. I reckon who ever coaches next year we finish bottom 4. Can't see anything we do but compete hard but lack quality all over the ground. Our best players are Battle, Billings and Stuv. Hopefully Hanners can get back because we are no good in the midfield. Too many below average on our list.
