Autopsy Round 8, 2022: Melbourne v St.Kilda

Thankfully turned it off after quarter time. Checked the results and doesn't look like we put up much of a fight throughout.

Not surprised or anything. Thought we'd finish in the bottom half of the eight and that's where it seems like we'll land. Anyone suggesting the expectation was top 4 has lost it. We'll be lucky to get past the first week of the finals IMO. We are not good enough and basically making up the numbers. Hard to see us challenging seriously this year. Make the aim finals and tick it off as progression, and then move onto 2023 because it's not going to happen for us this year.

Pretty much broke even for the last 3 quarters bar some bullshit calls from the umpire, we just took way too long to wake up at the start of the match, everytime the ball went to ground in their F50 they were all over it.

Hopefully some lessons learned from that game. We got on a 4 goal run but the issue was it was over 30 minutes so not enough reward for the effort over that time.

And still disappointed the boys didn't get around windhager, could have provided some motivation. Could see Ross screaming for it.

Lastly, umpires have lost the plot.

* I hope they go undefeated and get pumped in the GF.

Their supporters need to be brought back down to reality. They have become ******* unbearable and think they’re better than 01-03 Lions, 13-15 Hawks and Tiges combined.
It’s Sickening, almost like they’ve completely forgotten they were the biggest embarrassment of a club for the last 15 years before their flag. All it takes is a c Couple of injuries to the likes of Petracca, Oliver, Gawn, May etc and they’ll be brought down a peg.

We played much better in the second half and it only blew out in the last couple of minutes. We were plucky but never really recovered from the bad start. Need to find more midfeilders.

We held our own and we’re the better side for the last hour of the game.

Umpiring was pretty ordinary. Didn’t cost us the game but blew out the margin.

Was pretty happy in the end. Our fumbling and panic in the first 45 minutes cost us the game.

We can match it with them if we are switched on for somewhere near 100 minutes.

I’m reasonably happy, and strongly dislike Melbourne as much as any side atm. Ball seems to bounce your way when you’re going well.

Yep just not good enough.

Melbourne are head and shoulders the best side in the comp, can't see anyone seriously challenging them this year. Theirs to win. Miles ahead of anyone else.

Not the result we wanted but we would have learned a lot from that.

For the first quarter and a half we played scared, conservative, stagnant, kick-it-long-down-the-line footy, and paid a very big price for it.

After that we started playing much more like our usual selves, with taking the game on more and taking risks, and while they didn’t all come off, they at least gave us a chance to compete and we matched them from that point on.

That, the putrid umpiring and the fact that they took their chances far better than we did were the differences between the two teams.

They were pulling goals out of their ass early in the game.

Melbourne forwards were front and centre of the pack all day and able to create goals early.

May had Kings measure again. Higgins well held. Without those two we looked quite impotent forward

Melbourne way too good. Got a good run with the umpires, but when you are playing better football, that's what happens.

We couldn't stem the run on in the second.

Mids pretty well beaten. Seb the best for us in the mids.
Howard and Hill both good. Long tried hard.

Hill back on a wing, Billings forward, Wood put.
Hunter in someone? NWM.

Not surprised by really anything that happened in this game. Knew the Dees would likely win. Knew the Saints would play some competitive football, but also have multiple brain fades. Knew the umpires would be shockingly bad, as always. Too many players were just existing in the first half, sadly.

Today was just a normal day of Saints football.

Good for Windy getting a goal. Nasiah continues to make me aroused a couple times per week. Didn't even notice Butler was injured. See everyone next week!

Look was an obviously s**t loss. Felt worse than a full flogging almost. They just completely beat us around the ground and cruised through without trying.

Don’t agree. Once we stopped playing so conservatively (which wasn’t working at all) they didn’t look any better than us from that point on and we can still play significantly better than that.

The big thing in their favour of course though is that they’ll have a home ground advantage over teams like Brisbane or Freo in the GF.

Next week will be the test to see if we are actually any chance of being a top 4 side

Unfortunately at the moment it's a race for 2nd. No one is close to the Dees.

Poor kicking last week cost us the chance.of still being 6-2

I'm keen to see how we go against the Cats

Honestly they probably eased off the gas after heading towards a 100 point demolition
