Petch is a list clogger, 7 years he has been on the list and still to this day our club don’t know if he can play??
Brockman is also not up to it and neither is Long. Mini unfortunately still has to clean up the mess before he can really start making serious progress.

7 years for 89 games and I don't recall him ever being injured. He's the same player he was in 2019 if not worse.

I would love to sit in on meetings etc. and find out what the coaches actually ask him to do. I understand what Cripps does, what Owies is trying to do. I understand that flyin' Ryan is also a low possession player that doesn't tackle a lot but is capable of taking mark of the year and creating goals out of nothing and his delivery inside 50 is elite.

1/3 of our list wouldn't get a spot on most other teams lists. What makes matters worst is the fact we have to spend a certain percentage of our salary cap which also means we are over paying under achieving players who would be on the bare minimum contract elsewhere.
And with a terrific list you pay many players unders.

Success or money?

If nothing else Petch is consistant from day 1 to now.

His 2019 numbers are almost exactly like his 2024 numbers (used 2024 as he only has one afl match for this year).

His WAFL tally is also similar though he gets more goals on average in the WAFL than AFL.

As a depth player that sits in the WAFL and helps but is there for "In case of emergency" i think is his spot. Certainly wont be b22 going forward and once we get some kids in the door and Crippa goes, he'll be on the block. I don't think it's this year but maybe next year is when he goes unless some other club wants him.

Do we need a 26 year old depth player though?

I don't mean to sink the boots in but if you've been on the list long enough to be a free agent and you are a WAFL regular you are probably just taking up a list spot. It's not like with Flynn, Bailey Williams and Archer Reid where it's only sensible to play one or two at a time and one has played 7 games. If Cripps or Ryan are injured do we gain anything playing Petruccelle over one of the younger players?

Owies is a 28 year old depth player and we traded him onto the list

OUT: Duggan, Cole, Allen, Long, Owies
IN: Hall, Gross, Petch, Brockman, Brock

Maric Brock Hough
HReid McGovern Ginbey
Hunt Hutchinson Dewar
Ryan JWIlliams Petch
Cripps Waterman AReid

Flynn Hall Graham

Hewett Baker Davis Brockman Gross (Sub)

Graham back in middle as thats where he impacts the most. Hough back to where he belongs. HReid been slightly better in backline this year so he goes back. All the mediocre to shit players over 25 dropped. Petch should get a chance at some point this season.

Sorry, that was a throw-away comment based on the WAFL commentary. They started by saying he had done bugger all, and barely stopped short of recommending a firing squad.

I don't recall a harsher in game assessment of a player at any level.

I think you can look at it as a KPI. If we need him for ‘depth’ then his competitors haven’t developed sufficiently i.e. he’s still relevant.

Just like if Hunt or Cripps or Cole are playing at the end of the year then the younger replacements have not been as good as we thought/hoped.

Going forward, he won't be on the list. We are the worst team in the competition, on track for the worst possible year of any club since the existence of University... and he still can't get a game in the seniors. And we are desperate for mid-age players with a bit of experience.

I think that shows where he's at.

Any time a club brings in a new coach, it's a chance for everyone to reset expectations and put their best foot forward. He's been consistently middling at best. I just don't think he has the heart to be an AFL footballer.

Were you guys doing the commentary on the Claremont game on Seven Plus last weekend, by any chance?

Geelong never seem to have a problem with a terrific list and that's getting paid unders, because they rarely miss playing in the finals.

Maybe but he isn’t going to be a great player so we need to stop being nice and investing years into these guys.

Long had a really good first season, was projecting like a range from absolute star down to good, crafty player at the worst.

(Know player ratings aren't everything but just an example that matched the eye test of most on here).

Then had a year wiped out by injury, and then is 5 games into a winless year this year.

There's players on our list that a more ruthless club would have cut, for sure, but don't think any club in the AFL would be writing off Long at this stage. You do sometimes need to invest years in players before you start reaping the fruit.

A tale as old as time on BigFooty:

If they aren't in All Australian form right this moment then they are a spud and should be delisted.
