Just watched the replay and can't really see what was wrong with Ibbo's game. Apart from his one mistake and there were plenty of those from everyone in the first half Ibbo did his job. I guess once you're branded a goat on here there is not much chance of losing the tag. He marked well, played on effectively and disposal was good.
I doubt Ibbo will lose his spot based on this game. I can't see any changes.

I am undecided on Ibbo

At the game, I said "Ibbo has had his best game for some time, and should hold his spot next week", so I must admit I was a little surprised at the widespread calls for his head. I thought he was serviceable. 100% disposal efficiency and 7 marks. I am with you on this salim malik.

Ibbo looks so much better when he plays on quickly. As soon as he stops and hesitates, it goes to pieces. Ibbo won't lose his spot based on his performance on the weekend.

That said, In: Logue.

I totally agree with your comments as when I was at the game I thought Ibbo played well. Weller didn't do that well but he and Ibbo have similar boots and from a distance some people might have mistaken the two. I wonder how many posters on here will fess up about their original comments that Tabs was no good and couldn't mark. He showed those people up yesterday.

Well, I'm glad I didn't post on here earlier. At half time I was ready for:

Out - Everyone
In - Anyone else

Then, suddenly it all turned around and guys who were playing like absolute crabs became real footballers again and would have made me look like a real dill.

My main concern is that when the pressure is really on early in games, our defense is disorganized and we look like being scored against every time the ball goes in. Even if they miss and score a point we can't get the ball out of a zone because a) we have some very poor kicks AND decision makers in the backline, and b) we don't have anyone who is prepared to take the game on and break the lines from defense (ala Jason Johannisen, Bob Murphy, Heath Shaw). This means we are relying on mediocre kickers to pinpoint the ball through a zone, something we just stuff up way too often. Once the opposition tires late in the game and we are given that little bit of extra time and space we make better decisions and our ball movement improves.

The reason for that rambling was a lead up to my outs. Firstly, I think it is important to keep the majority of our defenders together as much as possible, because we need them to build some real synergy and understanding. However, I think it is important that we recognize the deficiencies back there and start to address them.

For me, the guy who is most out of form and confidence at the moment is Ibbotson. I would drop him back to Peel and leave him there for at least three weeks to see if he can find some of his form from a few seasons ago when he was talked about as an all Australian.

Having watched Peel on Saturday I would love to see Luke Ryan brought in as a a straight swap, but as Danny pointed out he probably needs a few more games to get up top full match fitness. I liked the suggestion of Danyle Pearce in for Ibbo, with Crozier back to defense but I honestly think Collins has earned a recall. I know people are saying he is slow, but I would put that argument in the same bucket as the "Brady Grey can't kick" and the "Taberner can't mark" ones. People hear something and suddenly it becomes fact - give the guy a couple of games and see how he goes, if it doesn't work then we try something else. Maybe in a week or two Ryan is ready, or Griffin Logue comes back in. But lets try something, this has been a problem for a while and I think we can all see it.
Duds you didn't get Ibbo and Weller mixed up as the color of their boots was pretty much the same Red and Blue. Weller didn't play that well yesterday and I thought Ibbo played the better game of the two.

Every single one of your posts feels like an attack. Every. Single. One.

Don't think we should make any changes this week but would love to see over the next few weeks/rest of the season,
Out: Ibbo, Spurr, Sutty
In: Logue, Collins, Ryan

Also of Ibbo and Sutty I thought Sutty was worse yesterday so if we made a change for Richmond I'd like
Out: Sutty
In: Logue/Ryan/Collins

Out: tucker
In : suban/d.pearce .

What got up your nose about Tucker's game?
Played on a wing sure, but still almost never won the ball himself, wasn't very damaging with his disposal and laid no tackles. Danyle gets his own ball more and tackles more and can be played up forward as well. He should be rewarded for his BOG against Claremont.

I have nothing against Tucker and want him to succeed, but I think Danyle would make us a better team.

Any marginal benefit Pearce might bring to the team now over Tucker or Balic or Langdon is overwhelmed by the fact that he is just average, and is never going to be any better than he is. These other guys have more upside in tiny parts of their backside than a whole Danyle has.

Let's not lose sight of the bigger picture just because we currently have a positive win/loss record. We're playing the long game here, Danyle might make us a better team NOW (although I doubt it) but what about 2-3 years down the line? He won't even be at the club let alone be a potentially integral cog in a premiership contending side. Tucker/Balic and co might be.

Nah, I thought Weller was poor as well but I think he has more to offer long term than Ibbo (pace, elite kicking, age). The problem is once the game breaks open these guys all look OK, but go back and watch the first half and tell me that Ibbo, Sutty or Spurr were good. Not saying they were all terrible, but we have too many of these guys who are slow to make decisions and indecisive. That clown act of Ibbo where he got caught holding the ball was reminiscent of Jack Anthony!

He has been a good player for us and he can be a good player for us again, but in my opinion he has had a poor year and it seems like his confidence is shot to pieces. Get him back to Peel to find some form and give someone else a crack. If we are in a rebuild phase we need to be looking at as many options as we can, and there are some pretty handy players running around at Peel.

Ibbo is 29, and I would rather see someone in the general age demographic of the main group getting game time.

Ibbos brainfade in the second quarter where he gifted them a shot on goal (I can't remember if they converted) was just pathetic to watch. An AFL player should never look like the Auskick kids at halftime.
The calls for Collins to replace Ibbo are off the mark. Ryan(or even logue)is the replacement for Ibbo. Collins won't get a gig unless hambling or johnno go down more so johnno. I think they rested johnno towards end of game. I think he copped one in lower back in first Q. Hopefully his dodgey hammy & back hold up

Sutcliffe's kicking is very average. Has racked up big No's at Peel but would like to know the efficiency. What I saw of him last week V EP was spraying the ball. Maybe Tucker can in his spot far greater upside than Sutcliffe.

He will be at the club until the end of 2018. If we aren't going to play him when he rips a WAFL game apart, then when will we play him?
I'm OK if it's not this week, but you need to reward (consistent) form and if he continues to rack up 30+ touches and doing everything defensively as well then he needs to be selected. You can't just gift games to younger players, there needs to be some accountability in selection.

I don't think there should be changes, but if we were to make changes then the young guys shouldn't get a free pass because they are young. If they need to work on aspects then a run in the twos will benefit them in the long run.

I still think our back line needs some more experimentation over the coming weeks. Weller had a shocker yesterday but it's like we don't have any other option to step up if he is being held/struggling. Thinking something like this (assuming Ballas comes back in for Croz in the forward line):

B Hughes Hamling Ryan
HB Weller Johnson Crozier

That's 3 good kicks, including Ryan's 60m+ roost. MJ and Hughes kicking isn't bad either. Two speedsters to run the ball out of defence plus MJ, Hughes and Ryan can all run. 5 of them can intercept well from what I have seen. The only question mark I have is can this back line actually defend? Although to strengthen it defensively I'd just add an extra defender in the mix (eg Logue/Collins/Ibbo/Spurr/Sutty/Sheridan) until Alex Pearce becomes available. I'd also rotate Tucker down back to release Weller/Crozier forward to keep the opposition guessing.

Maybe being too optimistic but I just think it's easier to improve your defending than it is to try and become a good kick or increase your speed. I think Ibbo, Spurr, Sutty and Shero have been good servants down back over the years but I just can't see any of them being part of our future back line given their lack of pace and often poor skills under pressure.

I agree with you, but.....

.......Hamling is in the role of a stopper first, and that is something Collins can do. Ibbotson is an intercept mark and transition player first, and I think Hamling may be able to do that better. I think Hamling has more to offer. Nest season, assuming MJ retires, I can see Collins and Pearce as the KPDs, with Hamling as the third. A bit more creative and can take talls or smalls.
